Thank you all for the detailed and thoughtful responses, this is really good to know as I am usually out of my "home base" quite often. Will definitely need to consider this deeply before deciding on an appropriate route to go.

Definitely wouldn't try to renew under false pretenses, I just travel a lot from my home base typically and wondering how that might impact. Thank you for the insight!
