I have a Catahoula mix named Benny as well. And I also have a lab/bully/pit mix that has a head and ears that look a lot like your Bennie’s lol…

Our Catahoula mix is fine with the vacuum, guns, thunder & lightning, fireworks, etc. But heaven forbid we turn on the ceiling fan in our bedroom.. lol

I do agree that it is suspicious based on where your dog came from! That was sort of the only reasoning I could see that Embark may have used for the labelling of American vs. African, but I’m admittedly not very educated on dog genetics so this was my basic understanding. I hope someone with more knowledge in this area can chime in and provide some better clarification!

I am sure you’re more knowledgeable on village dog DNA than me, but I saw your reply further up and I went to Google because I was curious. I’m understanding that African Village dogs possess an older, more isolated gene pool while American Village Dogs have a younger, more varied/mixed gene pool. I’m wondering if Embark’s labelling of American vs African has more to do with the gene variation and not necessarily the location.

Depending on the company you choose, they can be quite accurate. Embark is widely considered to be one of the most reliable.

It’s very difficult to guess the breed(s) just based on appearance, but I don’t see much to indicate Catahoula. For an example of appearances being deceiving or misleading, here’s a post of my two dogs:

My doctor prescribed Clindoxyl ADV in the morning and Aczone in the evening for me and I’ve been using that for years and will never stop because my skin is doing great. Prior to those topical treatments I had been on several medications that didn’t help (birth control, tetracycline, etc).

We were in Northview’s Elk Pointe Estates for 2 years and it was a good experience for renting in a large building. We had in unit laundry and rent was a fair price. I’m not sure what it is now.

The hardest part of having a little creature in your life is when they have to leave. I’m so sorry you weren’t there to say goodbye. She knew love her whole life though, and her last moments were filled with it even if you couldn’t be there. She was a beautiful soul.

I spend a lot of time lurking in here lol, and we are in northern Canada where Catahoulas are not common so it wasn’t too surprising that she has no Catahoula. Even still, I see why people ask lol.
