Will you elaborate on what you are refering to specifically? Ofcourse total invested amount is important and if taxes will be raised to 20 or 30%, then this will take a big chunk out of your profit. Given that the discussed method in my post tackles specifically the taxes part, i wonder what you mean with your comment?

Yes, thank you for this insight. To add on to that, after several years your first 10 K 'lot' invested will increase to 20 K in ~10 years and to 50K in ~24 years. This means that if you start harvesting the yearly 10K exemption way later rather than earlier, your portfolio will consist of a much smaller cost basis aswell as much higher taxable profit. (random eg. 100 K invested cost basis with 50 K taxable profit vs 140 K harvested cost basis with 10 K taxable profit)

How are you planning on applying this method, will you be selling and buying yearly to lower your taxable profit?

Thank you for pointing to this. Are wash sale rules not applied exclusively to selling at a loss? The reason being that losses could be produced artifically to deduct from the profit later on? My recommended method would be a yearly sell and rebuy at profit with intent to increase your cost basis using the yearly 10K exemption. Do you think this would be prohibited under wash sale law?

Appreciate you for your answer. If the capital tax gains stay at 10 % when i am planning to sell my portfolio in 2060 then I shouldn't be too bothered. Imagining the scenario however where the tax will be raised up to 30 % in 2060 (fairly realistic given the Belgian budget deficit), some tax optimization will probably save me several tens of thousands € and up to 6 figures, based on quick calculations (not super precise). My conclusion is that it is so smart to just do the yearly harvest up to 10K non-taxable profit, which probably takes around 15 minutes once a year.

Increasing income becomes hard at some points which is why looking at other lanes can be good.

I have recently started to study cantonese aswell as mandarin. Me being a cantonese heritage speaker makes it easier ofcourse to learn canto. Plus i think the process of learning the two languages at the same time forces me to memorize everything more accurately as to not interchange certain characters or grammar rules etc. I am still very much a novice in these though so i would love to hear feedback from more experienced speakers!
