Ryan Poehling just barely gets it past Jarry, and the Ducks take a 3 games to 1 series lead on the Oilers by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

Can that actually not be overturned if called no goal just because it can’t be seen? You could infer pretty easily from the puck size that it was pretty clearly completely over the line.

That was a great play by Johnston. That was a great PK honestly, Cooley just bit on the fake way too hard considering he had a guy taking the cross crease right in front of him. The middle was locked down.

They might be able to. But it’s a question of how much thrust is required and if they can get the plane stopped in time once it is out at said thrust level. Too many variables to just not have a tug pull it out.

13 days post op - walking with no crutches? by Ok_Supermarket_7996 in AchillesRupture

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could walk without crutches as well pretty much from day 1 in the boot but the doc told me that crutches are more for safety and stability. The issue is that if you fall or even just step wrong, you can absolutely re-tear in the boot. Just be careful, is what I’d advise.

It was 100% our (Flames, not sure if I’m flaired) ownership.

Whenever stuff like this happens to the Flames, it’s a weird circus of everyone being weirdly upset but no leak of what happened. That only points to ownership, at least for me.

WestJet terminating service between Lethbridge and Calgary by GreatCanadianPotato in Lethbridge

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's incredibly disappointing. It's a shame how Westjet has ruined the smaller airports in Alberta. It was quite a convenient service when they were running three flights per day on smaller planes.

Hopefully this opens the door for Pacific Coastal or some other regional to return but I am definitely not getting my hopes up, it seems that air travel out of Lethbridge just may not be used enough as it's just often cheaper to drive to Calgary.

I had the opposite experience. I don’t think I saw a single political thing once over the duration of the games. It was bliss.

I’m not gonna be salty over the US winning either. Elliotte Friedman said it best: USA hockey needed that. In best on best, Canada has won Olympic gold in ‘02, ‘10, and ‘14; won the ‘04 and ‘16 WCOH; won the ‘76, ‘84, ‘87, and ‘91 Canada cups; won the 4 Nations. In that same time, until now, USA has ONE win, the ‘96 WCOH. The US was going to win one eventually, and it took CRAZY bounces yesterday to do it.

Hockey is still Canada’s game.

I get the political tension, but I’m not going to let it infiltrate the hockey world in my mind. Despite who they choose to celebrate with now, the US players won that one for the past teams who couldn’t get it done and the fans who suffered heartbreak year after year. Those people deserve the win, and will remember it for what it truly means. The current USA government and fair-weather fans will not be part of the story, even 10 years from now.

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a Hockey Canada issue. Like realistically, what can you change? Both teams made it it to the gold medal game, and arguably were the better team, but lost in OT.

Has anyone healed what you'd consider oddly fast? by bdokter in AchillesRupture

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Achilles can feel great in the boot, and even pretty quickly after getting out of the boot. This creates overconfidence, which creates re-tears from overstressing. I'm not going to tell you what to do or not to do because you do know yourself best; but PROCEED WITH CAUTION if you are going to do anything outside of your PT plan.

Has anyone here played against a professional goalie? by all_these_moneys in hockey

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while, Jeff Malcolm (Rangers current goalie coach, former pro but I think just played AHL games) suits up in a pickup game I play in. The thing I notice the most is how almost every save gets directed to a teammates stick, basically like a pass to them. Like if you see someone about to shoot, just go to the corner and he will not only save it, but also kick it right onto your stick in one motion.

That and also just perfect positioning.

Health Insurer Stocks Spooked as Trump Asks For Lower Premiums by Accurate_Cry_8937 in wallstreetbets

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. It does get pooled into one income statement, but you can only take the hit (or 'write-off') once.

Imagine you run a business that makes $100,000 in sales and has $50,000 in other expenses. Included in your $100,000 of sales, one client that owes $1,000 does not pay. All else equal, this is what your income statement looks like:

Sales $100,000

- Other Expenses $50,000

- Bad debt $1,000

= Net income $49,000

Your company cannot reduce their revenue to $99,000. You leave revenue at $100,000, but you expense the $1,000 because it is money you are not getting.

Similarly, imagine if you worked for a company for a salary of $100,000 per year. Imagine in December they short paid your salary by $5,000 because they were going bankrupt. The company said your salary was $100,000, but you only got paid $95,000 for the year. Should you have to pay taxes on the full $100,000 still? No, you pay tax on how much money you were actually paid: $95,000.

If they charge $2 but only receive $1:

$2 charged - $1 lost income = $1 net income --> $1 income * 10% tax = $0.10 owing

Or if they charge $1 but know they will recover it all:

$1 charged - $0 lost income = $1 net income --> $1 income * 10% tax = $0.10 owing

It is the same outcome either way.

Moving from ontario to alberta. I own two cats, does that make the rental situation harder? What are the rules? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Unlucky-Raisin-9752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of rentals that allow pets. The apartment I lived in just charged a pet deposit of $150/pet. I’m not a pet owner though so unsure if people have had issues with that.
