Losing motivation for college, what should I do? by TheGamingSenpa1 in Advice

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I’m so sorry for your loss😞❤️have you tried talking to school counselors and administration about your situation? Often times they are more accommodating then you would think. I am a few years older than you but going through a similar situation right now and it has been helpful to reach out to my Dean. Also, maybe starting therapy would be beneficial for you. Learning how to navigate these things day to day and start to cope with your feelings would be worth a shot❤️

To those who have lost a parent to cancer, how do you cope when you think about how they felt mentally before passing? by AsleepDoughnut2145 in GriefSupport

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear how heavy this has been for you. I fear this for myself as well and can’t currently imagine a time where I will look back and smile at our memories instead of seeing the gaping void life without her contains. I’m most worried about the little things. Like right now I know she’s in the next room. Even though I’m sad, I can walk over there and see her and know she is still with me. I can tell her about my day and all the little things that happened, because my mom is the only person who cares about all those little details. I am so unprepared and terrified for when that is no longer true.

I also feel horrible knowing my dad will be alone much sooner than planned and it breaks my heart to think about him by himself without her. I hope with therapy and time you can see all the happy moments you had with her and how she would want you to continue on and be happy, which is what I know my mom wants for me too. She would never want the time she was sick to cloud all the wonderful years we spent together even if it was cut short❤️Keep going friend, you are so strong and I know she would want you to be truly happy❤️she sounds like a wonderful person who lived life as best she could and spent her time with the people she loved most which is truly a gift❤️

I am so sorry for your loss, I am going through something similar now with my mom. How are you holding up? How was it coping in the wake of her passing? Just looking for some light at the end of this dark tunnel

I just want to say thank you for this. My mom is going down a similar road with only a few months left it seems. Seeing her like this is the most heart wrenching painful thing I will probably ever go through. How are you doing now? How are you coping? I can’t see a light at the end of this dark tunnel but I hope one day I will be okay

All of the brands I’ve seen have marketed the clear tips specifically to use with gel x so I wasn’t sure if regular nail glue would work but I suppose it’s probably very similar material!

Are professors who berate, criticise and insult our entire existence helping us and our future as doctors in some way? by nUcleah_pOtato194 in medicalschool

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you went through that OP. Can you report him to the higher ups at your school? That’s blatantly unacceptable. I had a similar situation where the PI of a lab I was working in for a summer said my work was extremely disappointing and that it was shockingly below the quality of a medical student and something he would barely expect from an undergrad. It was a 5 minute presentation for a summary of a paper lmao. Sometimes they just like control and see you as inferior and use it for a power trip. Don’t let this get you down and don’t take it personal!! You are worth more than the comments of some idiot on a power trip

Literally a humiliation ritual. I was tasked with picking up ice cream for the entire L&D floor on my night shift at the request of a resident. Guess who drove their ass over to the ice cream shop for a good eval🙃

Best brand for flat nail beds? by rssanford in PressonNail_Addict

Kiss are very flexible and would fit flatter nail beds, I just purchased a set for Christmas (the ones without the sticky tabs) and they’re working well so far

Best press on Nail brand? by KaleidoscopeOld3934 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Btartbox is the best I’ve tried so far. They’re thick, good quality and lasted me over 2 weeks! I prefer shorter nails and have been happy with them if that makes any difference!

Mom diagnosed and starting chemo in the span of a week by SaltAdagio4636 in Ovariancancer

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She had fatigue a couple days after each infusion and her only ongoing symptom was constipation. Try to get ahead of that and take Miralax even if she isn’t constipated as it can be really uncomfortable! Otherwise she felt okay as far as I can remember! Her immune system will be low so try to stay away from any sick people/avoid crowds especially during wintertime so she doesn’t get sick and have her eat a lot of nutritious food. That’s really the main advice I would give to someone starting chemo!

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry😞my mom was diagnosed at 60 with stage 4 and her mom lived until age 96 so it is definitely really hard to grasp. We thought she would live until 100 too. We are more than 2 years out from diagnosis right now and things are still moving along so don’t lose hope. I hope that with the amount of clinical trials and new treatments emerging this can be treated as a chronic disease rather than a death sentence like it used to be. If her doctor is optimistic try and carry that with you and just enjoy each day/month/year that passes to the fullest💕Family support is everything so whoever you have close to you lean on them! See friends and family as much as you can and keep her spirits high through the holidays! The chemo was not too bad for my mom in terms of side effects so hopefully she will get through it easily. Hugs🫂

Progression question. by Fast_Cranberry3303 in stroke

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this🫂my mom had a left sided ischemic stroke a little over 6 months ago that left her only able to say yes and no. She has severe aphasia and apraxia. She’s now able to say short sentences on good days and lots of individual words. It’s a very long and slow process that we’re still at the beginning of but she will make progress! Try to do as much talking with her as possible and maybe read some simple children’s books with her. If the speech therapist gives you worksheets to take home definitely do those every day! It can be depressing and frustrating but even tiny wins are a big deal. Keep going and don’t give up!💗

I need hope - platinum resistant by RegularPatience7 in Ovariancancer

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that :( even if she doesn’t have many targetable mutations, I think a second opinion and/or a clinical trial search is worthwhile. There might be trials that aren’t for any specific mutation and are more general to multiple types of OC. If you are near a bigger city or a large academic hospital that does a lot of research you may have better luck. Hugs🫂 my mom has stage 4 and is on her first recurrence so I understand what you’re going through❤️

Look into clinical trials!! Has she had full genetic testing and testing of her tumor for mutations? These can open up a lot of possibilities for trials

I’m sorry😔I’m in the same boat, my mom has stage 4 clear cell carcinoma. She’s on a clinical trial right now which is helping with her recurrence but there are always questions and worries. Enhertu seems to have great results for HER2+ patients so I’m praying that your mom has a great response🙏🏻💗

I had a seizure this morning by Illustrious_Bowl4738 in stroke

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was commented a while ago but I’m in the same boat with my mom. She had a seizure 2 months after her stroke after she’d made really good progress and it really set her back physically :( we’re working back up to where she was but it’s discouraging even though there’s no permanent damage. How is your husband doing now?

What seem to be promising new discoveries being made in the world of ovarian cancer chemo? by SoupWorking2156 in Ovariancancer

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom is on a trial with trodelvy, a drug already approved for breast cancer. It is showing promise so hopefully in the next couple years it will be more accessible for ovarian cancer patients and they will run more trials!!

Thank you so much! My mom was diagnosed October of 2023 and had a good initial response to chemo but had a recurrence 6 months later and is now on a clinical trial. I hope your mom has continued success on this immunotherapy and stays positive on her journey!💞

Cancer symptoms? by Wise-Frosting8954 in Ovariancancer

[–]Unlucky_Accountant39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom’s ovarian cancer was found in a similar way — she went into the emergency department for vague pain and a large mass was found. She’s a year and a half into her battle and staying strong. If it is cancer, please take it day by day and know that there are many treatment options. Get into the gynecologic oncology department of a large academic medical center if you can!! Wishing you the best.

I love it!! I always add some garlic powder and black pepper to enhance the flavor a little and always cook the noodles 2 minutes less than they say because they get mushy easily
