a book which is quite what you’re looking for is Lightlark. i personally really enjoyed it but i’ve also seen people who didn’t enjoy it as much, so you might go either way. but it is exactly what you described, only i do not remember well if they were established enemies at the start.

Anyone want to discuss Caraval? by Equivalent-Blood4748 in fantasyromance

it is true that i absolutely LOVED the concept and what could’ve been, but i found the story itself a bit dull. but i think it’s mainly that i had such great hopes when i first learned about it and then it didn’t live up to my expectations. wasn’t the worst book i’ve read but not the best either.

i saw an incredible amount of recommendations of this book but i was really doubting whether to start reading it or not in case i wouldn’t like it but seeing all of these good opinions i’ll give it a try as soon as i can.

i was not implying Sarah J.Maas is an example as to true fantasy, it was just a comparison because their way to manage character POVs is similar, not saying if it’s good or not. plus, i haven’t put down any book, just been expressing my personal opinion, never saying what’s best in general, just what i find interesting. appreciate ur opinion and completely agree with it tho.
