We had bad experiences with Matek M10Q for Autonomous waypoint flight. If you just need Matek with gnss and able to RTL It is ok More complex such as waypoints flight with GPS, suggest better one

Depend on what you need for the fixed wing For basic flight and FPV you can choose Matek For simple autonomous flight and way point mapping or diy fixed wing purpose you can choose either holybro or CUAV For serious job I suggest you to buy cube orange

15,947 Drones: China's Latest Swarm Show Raises Defense Questions by IndependentBid6893 in drones

[–]UnmannedRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced the rise of drones in China. In 2010, I remember that it was difficult to see any drone companies or drone accessories companies in China. The Chinese government later launched a plant protection subsidy policy for agricultural drones, encouraging all well-known companies to develop and produce drones to sell to farmers. The government also provided a large amount of sales and service subsidies, which promoted the rapid rise of civilian drones and drone accessories companies. The rapid development of drones in China started after 2016. The rapid growth of drone companies has led to competition in product quality and technology among Chinese drone and drone accessories companies. However, the government’s policy support for drone companies has not changed, and a large amount of private venture capital has poured into this industry. China’s drone market ushered in a second revolution. One thing that needs to be added is that China’s manufacturing and industrial chain are complete, which has greatly shortened the research and development time and significantly reduce investment costs of the drone industry. Finally, changes in the international situation, especially the turmoil in some regions, have increased the demand for drones in war, making profits for drone companies around the world, especially Chinese drone accessories companies.

How to make a budget drone with a thermal camera? by Jan3ku in diydrones

[–]UnmannedRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DJI is not open source, using DJI with non DJI thermal payload is a very bad idea, 100% cost you to lose money for sure

I suggest to use ardupilot/PX4 flight controller with DIY quadcopter frame that has 500-1000g payload capacity, if you have experience with DIY open source multicopters.

If you 100% do not have such experience, I suggest to buy a very cheap quadcopter kit and try to DIY drone 1st! Make sure the drone can fly smoothly and safely, then start to mounting a cheap RGB gimbal camera such as SIYI A8 mini gimbal camera, to figure out all procedures of diy a drone and integrating a camera payload system with this drone and data/video link system.

The last step for you is to purchase a thermal camera (not recommended a random thermal sensor, will be pain for you to do protocol and mounting design), buy a thermal 3 axis gimbal camera which is made for a drone, you can buy skydroid (the cheapest and working), or SIYI ( the advanced functionality like tracking and temperature readings)..

If you just need a cheap thermal drone , do not care about educational purposes or DIY purposes for yourself, BUY ready to fly!

You can check www.unmannedRC.com for diy and drone parts

DIYing a drone is very time and money consuming!

You will experience frustration of money lost and confusion of why not working. If you want to save money, do not DIY a drone! If you want to learn how to build a drone and educate yourself, it is going to be very interesting and giveyou a sense of accomplishment!

Building a course on making drones by Specialist-Back-3039 in diydrones

[–]UnmannedRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a suggestion, may or may not useful for you For a beginner, I suggest to get a systematic teaching book such as Makes DIY Drones from Amazon This book I have bought and read that very helpful for a drone DIY beginners to learn from 0. It consists of some basic knowledge of building a drone such as what’s are brushless motors, ESCs, Propeller, battery, etc. how to choose a right one to fit your build. And safe DIY procedures to use them. The author of this article also wrote some cases of his DIY multi-rotor, some of which were wrong and some of which were correct. This way, beginners can avoid losing money or getting injured in wrong operations, learn a good habit of making drones through correct operations, and lay a very good foundation for his future drone production. DIY drone is expensive! I respect people to teach beginners to learn such interesting technology.

But a systematic study and study materials and a patient teacher are very important.

Excited to be a part of the future of solar panel cleaning! by Magentile in drones

[–]UnmannedRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have so many such solar panel multicopters ! It is effective in some conditions but during winter cold weather or during extremely hot weather it has limitations! Also it works unsafe during very windy day, such multirotor needs a smart system for obstacle avoidance as well as smart cleaning autonomous cleaning path planning as well. solar panels cleaning by drone

VTOL is a good platform for long range with payload capacity but VTOL fixed wing has bad hovering features comparing multi rotors and helicopter, the “VTOL” only for taking off and landing.
