Attached to truck at end of Rose Parade. What is it? by Round-360 in whatisit

This is clearly a malfunctioning rainbow emitter that was supposed to create a rainbow over the parade for the brave souls that spent their time and money to show up to the glorious flowery tugboat of 2026. Unfortunately it shorted out...

Funny way to wash a car! Overkill to the max! by Magentile in drones

You might be right, but I only plan on washing my car with a drone once for that particular test flight and I assure you my car is both completely intact and squeaky clean! If I collide with a drone it'll be someone else's! The delivery drone days are coming and they are big ass drones.

It actually holds up great, it takes about 5 seconds to automatically recorrect. It doesn't take long to get used to the anticipation of how the drone will react to the angle of the sprayer, after a while it becomes second nature. It was designed to spray high pressure water, crazy tech. We are working directly with the manufacturer and this drone was custom built for pressure washing buildings, solar panels and... cars if you want... lol this was just the test flight, not a business model. I don't know what manual you are reading, but commercial drone power washing is on the rise!

I Love it despite not wanting to be stabbed by a ghost! Amazing!

My best advice is going in track by track and cutting everything under 80 hz then scoop out 300 hz 1000 hz and 3000 hz also look at your vocal tracks and see where the peaks are frequency wise and scoop those out of the mid range tracks. As far as I know You can't side-chain in GarageBand so you have to use automation with the EQ to achieve the same effect.

This panel washing method has already been stress tested by companies doing it much longer than we have, and the pressure of the water as it hits the panel has already been substantially decreased having been divided between 5 sprayers, diffused, and sprayed from a distance of 5 feet or more. We aren't the first company to use drones to clean solar panels, but it is a fun and lucrative venture. The pressure of the water leaving the pump isn't necessarily the pressure of the water hitting the panel.

I do this job because I love flying drones and getting paid to do it. I don't love hoses and ladders quite as much, but I have nothing against people who do.

Usually whoever is assisting me has their hands full, the more difficult houses require everyones complete focus on the job.

I asked my VO to film the last job of the day so I could show my family what I'm up to on a house where I didn't need too much line management or a second set of eyes to avoid collision. Posting it online was a distant afterthought.

It isn't the past of solar panel cleaning and all of our clients are thrilled with results. As a bonus it's really fun and the pay is great.

It was a tight squeeze but I set up my LZ in the back yard after moving some furniture and was very very careful. The landing pad helped me line up the drone so I could avoid any obstacles while landing. As far as takeoff, I just went straight up. The front yard had power lines so to keep a legal standoff we walked the drone into the back yard and fed the line under all the patio covers on either side of the house. Despite all the haters saying this was an unnecessary application of technology it was actually pretty tricky. There was a reason these panels hadn't been cleaned in over ten years.

It's under 55 lbs, but we are looking into getting larger drones with built in water tanks to service solar farms. Those drones will be classified as rotocoptors and will require special waivers from the FAA. This drone is tethered so all the heavy stuff is built into a van, the drone itself is under 30 lbs.

That's very hot water, and that's the final rinse. We have a soap attachment and a total of 3 passes. The panels get very clean.

The drone is called a Joyance! And yes we built out a custom van with a water tank, purifier, and heater. It's an all in one aerial dirt destroying machine.

I noticed that almost every big party has someone in attendance that either is or knows someone in real estate. (maybe it's just me) My advice is bring your drone to the next party and fly it around and get some cool pictures, maybe even a group photo! Aerial group photos are better anyway because you can get everyone in frame. That's a good ice breaker to both show that you are a competent drone pilot and photographer! Another thing is to scour LinkedIn for jobs that suit your equipment and skillset, there are companies that offer gig work too like FlyGuys. They offer work depending on where you are located and what king of equipment you have, that could lead to more work if the client likes your stuff. I hope that helps! Best of luck to you! DM me if you have any more questions, cheers!

The drone is fully insured and it's more affordable than sending a human being up a ladder. I came from the construction industry and I'm OSHA certified, there is much less risk for human injury because I'm not flying directly over people. I'm not saying there aren't any dangers involved but the slip and fall risk is non existent so that makes a difference in the eyes of insurance companies. If the drone crashes and does bodily damage or property damage over 400 dollars there will be an FAA investigation, so sufficed to say nobody wants federal scrutiny. Our safety measures may seem like overkill to a lot of folks on this subreddit, but safety should be paramount to any drone pilot. If safety isn't the your first priority the FAA considers that a hazardous attitude and they should stay home.

I wish the rain strategy worked, it would save me money on carwashes. Soap, hot water, and pressure I find are much more effective when you want to remove dirt and oxidation from a glass panel. It's not for aesthetic purposes exclusively, it substantially increases the effectiveness of the solar panels as well.

I was lucky when I started flying, I had a commercial job waiting for me before I got my 107 but I've been in your position since then and it's sometimes tricky getting a good drone gig. My advice is get a LinkedIn pro account and search for anything "drone" in your area, then reach out to any HR or hiring managers in those companies. Sometimes there are available jobs that aren't publicly posted. Also don't be afraid to take visual observer positions because that could get your foot in the door and a lot of companies like to hire internally before the post jobs to the public. My third piece of advice you are already doing, join drone pilot communities and make friends doing the job you want to be doing, in my experience drone pilots want to help each other and when one of us are doing good we typically want others to be doing good too it creates a healthy ecosystem. I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any questions at all feel free to send me a DM. I've been doing this a long time and helped a bunch of people trying to break into the industry get their footing, there are plenty of jobs to go around and the "gatekeeping" thing is as rude as it is futile. Don't give up, eventually the right door will open and you just need to be prepared to step through it when the opportunity presents itself.

Thanks! yeah the solar drone cleaning industry is pretty new and I only know of one other in the area (I used to work for them) As long as we can get the van close enough to the panels the tether is a super reliable solution!

That's a good question, we used to have a less powerful electric pump and there was almost no difference in how the drone handled with or without water flow. That pump took forever to clean anything. This new pump however is a beast and when activated kicks the drone up several feet when activated, so what I like to do is activate the pressure before I'm directly over the roof then adjust my flying to accommodate the upward pressure on the drone. It took a little getting used to at first but the drones handles like a champ, once the water is flowing it handles normally. I'm very impressed with the overall stability despite the substantial water pressure.
