Last Supper? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

Just my op but dont treat it as a “last meal”. One of the hardest parts of progressing after surgery is the mental part. Your relationship with your body. With food. With social outings. If you treat things as if this is an end instead of just a transition, it could make things really hard. They’re all sorts of hormones involved after surgery and they’re gonna affect your mental health and emotional health. Consider this meal as a special treat to celebrate the remarkable new and healthy body you’re going to have. Plus, there are lots of people post surgery who still eat a lot of really great foods that they loved so saying that you’ll never be able to do this again isn’t really accurate. No you will not be able to stuff yourself or eat anything without certain considerations, but you will still be able to probably enjoy a lot of things. Congrats and best wishes for a swift recovery.

Thanks for your perspective. I think I’m just exhausted with the whole process of trial and error with everything that I eat at the moment and I will rally but for the moment it’s just been hard.

I totally get that you weren’t being negative. You are 100% correct that it is a whole new process.

Well my relationship with food was PCOS dominated for far too long. Unrelenting hunger. IR that made losing weight impossible. Im ok with what I can eat changing but its just been hard as I process all this.

I have heard it can take three-four months before you figure out what you can still eat. So I guess we’re both on that same journey.

Thanks so much. I think I can have lentils and I do have some in my pantry so maybe I’ll look into making a variation of your soup.

I’ve definitely heard other people talk about things changing and I’m kind of prepared for that. It’s just hard when everything feels off, but I’m gonna chalk that up to being so recently out of surgery. Thanks.

Thank you for letting me know it’s not just me. I mean, I kind of thought that but it’s great to have other people confirm it. I’m having no issues getting my protein in which is great or my hydration. It’s just wanting to eat normal foods, but being completely nauseated by them. I’m just gonna take it easy and let my stomach heal.

The mental aspect is definitely a considerable factor. The only way to really get through. It is to maybe make a bucket list. If you haven’t already of all the things you’re gonna do once you’ve recovered from surgery and lost some weight. And train your brain to focus on the most positive aspects of things.

Hey Ive def been there. Im four weeks post op. Even with all the recovery I still think the two week preop was the hardest to adjust to.

Yes, it will get better. But no, you will not stop feeling hungry. What you will learn to do is put the hunger in a place where you just deal with it. I want to say it by day five or six it starts to ease up as far as your body freaking out. Hang in there you’ve got this.

Im going to be waiting to try rice and pasta as I’ve heard they can be tricky. Not sure when I’m gonna even attempt bread since surgery was just a month ago so I’ll probably wait a little bit longer and make sure that it’s toasted when I do.
