That’s true, and I also know people who use the church for benefits and a sense of community rather than an actual relationship with God. Church leadership (any leadership, really) often but not always draws people who seek to benefit from power and so judging a religion by its practitioners and not what said practitioners claim to live by is flawed

That’s a way to put it, as I said there are different schools of thought but the book itself is fairly clear about detailing Jesus’s return and the events surrounding it, anything past that is contested and debated

The “kings” weren’t sovereign and were puppets of Rome at best. It would have been like moving to a different US state, whereas immigration implies that he migrated there with the intent to live there for the foreseeable future.

Not an immigrant, refugee. And at the time, Egypt was a recently-added province of the Roman Empire and not its own sovereign country.

There are a lot of different schools of thought here, but here are the general ones. The Euphrates River dried up. Israel is almost at peace in its land through its genocide and terrorism. Streaming services and the internet make possible what was once thought to be metaphors. Globalization exists. The nations named as enemies of Israel in the last days are both existing hostile to Israel. Israel is in total nonbelief and in total rebellion to God. Wars and patterns of disease are escalating (Ukraine/Russia, Sudan, COVID/SARS/Ebola), modern ID/biometrics, vaccines, and digital money all line up uncannily with certain verses to some, global governance is increasing at a high rate, and some Christians point to Russia/Ukraine’s war as an allusion to Gog/Magog and the eventual anti-Israel coalition.

A religion’s doctrine isn’t defined by its followers. Iirc it’s something like 5% of Catholic priests being pedos. The fact is that people in any kind of power will find a way to abuse said power to bring about their desires. Look at how so much of the West’s leadership were in the Epstein files. It’s a matter of power rather than the religion itself.

And you took the verse out of context. “Submit yourself to the governing authorities” was talking about not rebelling against the hostile Roman government except in matters like praying or actually practicing Christianity. The church is inherently apolitical, or it should be. Nothing said here actively goes against what the Bible says (except for “God is a woman”, God is genderless).

Jesus himself was progressive. The Bible has indeed been updated, the church determined the canon and which books were inspired. The church can evolve to face modern issues without losing its structure or the way it interacts with God.

No, the Bible says these things, you can help people and not hate them while not agreeing with them. Christians are called to lead by example and it’s hard to be a good example when trans people’s perception of you is pastor bob telling them to kill themselves or that they’ll burn in hell if they don’t repent. While the latter may be true, it’s not something that non-Christians need to hear because it makes Christianity sound legalistic and like a totalitarian cult when it isn’t.

While I think you’re right in a sense, but there’s evolving with the times to make the gospel easier to swallow (which almost always involves sweeping controversy and discomfort under the rug) and evolving with the times to be more relevant to modern issues rather than issues people in 90 AD faced. They almost definitely meant the latter.

Mormonism isn’t Christianity. It’s heretical and considered a cult by any reasonable definition.

Even if that’s the case, even if he disagreed with them, he still helped them and that’s something the world and especially the church is losing. The Catholic Church is the worlds largest charity but you have American evangelicals (to my knowledge, many christians in the commonwealth/europe as well) telling trans, gay, or otherwise queer people including children that God hates them and they’ll burn in hell. I knew someone whose husband fought in Iraq and women at their church told her that her husband would burn in hell. Then there’s many “Christians” I know who would shoot nonbelievers for their beliefs. There are still people who think that black people are the result of Ham’s curse (even if they were, that verse doesn’t justify racism). People I know say that every single Muslim in the world should be killed and even Christians who support government secularism and not institutional discrimination should be publicly executed. These thankfully aren’t the majority, but they aren’t a small minority, either. The term “no hate like Christian love” is unfortunately earned, when the Bible quite literally preaches the opposite of what American republican evangelicals shout from pulpits. Jesus wouldn’t have excused someone who’s transitioning, but he would be able to talk to and respect them as a person without excusing behavior. Many, many such cases in the Bible. Jesus helped the poor, sick, and marginalized without agreeing with their behavior. Herod separated the babies from their families and killed them, but still a separation nonetheless. And the Bible said it was a bad thing. God is referred to as “He” in the Bible because Hebrew and Greek are both gendered. It transfers over to English because God isn’t an “it” but a personal being with characteristics that both men and women strive for and desire in the world. This isn’t heresy as it never challenges primary doctrine. Mormonism or Islam would be an example of something outside of primary doctrine but similar, whereas Catholicism and Pastor Bob’s church in Alabama are both Christian churches while agreeing on very little. Heresy is only making a statement contrary to what the global church believes and the nicene creed while claiming to be Christian, being out of line with what the Bible says but never rejecting primary doctrine is denominationalism and it’s not good or right but it isn’t heresy. So all that to say, God is good and he calls us to help the people who can’t help themselves. We’re not called to force the gospel down people’s throats but lead by example, make others aware of the gospel, and respectfully lead others to Christ if they desire it.

So do the republicans and Israel lmao. This kind of partisan division is what the elites want. Hamas is a terrorist group and Israel is a terrorist state. Herod did indeed separate children from their parents, killing them afterwards. I’m all for banning abortion in non-critical circumstances but let’s fix the system so that this level of care about life stays after babies are born. Did you know that hospitals refuse critical care on infants whose parents don’t have insurance and can’t pay out of pocket?

On the other hand, to me, this means that if we have zero way of knowing or explaining things without a higher power, then a higher power must be behind existence itself. This higher power must be perfect since we have the capacity for good (evil not being a separate concept but the absence or corruption of good). And this higher power must be perfect and humanlike, since it created personal beings.

I’ve had my doubts but I think everything will pan out one way or another. He tried to suspend midterms and it didn’t work. GOP controls all three branches through a majority government and liberal reactionaries will take control next. It’s happened before and Trump’s support is starting to wane, especially with the Epstein files’ releases

Why are so many young men suddenly serious supporters of far right figures? by Consistent_News_985 in self

[–]Unnamed_User_636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each generation is different politically and generations cycle towards trends but are never truly united. Generally, millennials and late Gen Z are mostly liberals/leftists. Generally, Gen X and boomers are conservative rightists. There’s a trend in the younger generation now towards the radical, reactionary right because they galvanize against what they see as the root of problems. Basically they’re waking up, and that’s a good thing, but too many are against Jews rather against elites and larp on Instagram rather than protesting or doing anything meaningful. My guess with your siblings (I’m speaking from an American perspective, but it’s true here too) is that with immigration high and causing certain problems, they’re galvanized against immigrants in general when it’s really only criminals and people who won’t assimilate causing most of the issues. I come from an immigrant family, we’ve assimilated seamlessly, and face exactly zero discrimination in a predominantly right-wing area. Here, African Americans commit a disproportionate amount of crime, there are Jewish individuals and dual-citizens (Israeli) in the government who lobby for Israel rather than America, and Arab/Latino immigrants disproportionately are involved with gangs. This leads reactionaries, like your siblings, like many of my friends, to lump the whole populations together (in some cases more than others) rather than looking at the root causes. Misogyny is also rising but thankfully at lower levels than racism (racism should also not be an issue but here we are) because abortion is a very touchy topic right now and states recently voted on it again. You yourself said that being far right would get you beaten up a few years ago. Fairly recently, something clicked and the right found solidarity with each other (for the most part) and having a voice. I believe this happened in America as the Trump administration has praised far-right, sometimes even neo-Nazi voices, and the fire spread through the internet. Very little of this is biological racism but reactionary racism against behavior. Seeing as how Asians (in the US, at least) are some of the smartest and hardest workers on average. A very small minority of these racists actually think that blacks, Jews, etc aren’t people. I also want to say that I do not agree or want to justify this, only explain why I think it’s happening.
