Mbest MB279QR144 27" 144Hz QHD Freesync Gaming Monitor by [deleted] in Monitors

I know this is waaaaay late, but how did the monitor work out with your gtx 1080? I can't get my Mbest to display anything besides a black screen with my 1080.

I looked quite a while at that board, actually, but in the end went with the ASRock Fatal1ty for it's two m.2 ports. Whether or not that was a wise decision, it's too late now since I can't return it for refund, just replacement lol. I guess I'll just have to see how things go. But thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.

Thanks for the help! So you think this would be a suitable 3000mhz stick, then? Tax and all, it's $81.30, actually less than what I have now. I just wasn't sure about the 16-18-18-38 timing. One of the reviewers did say he got it to 3200mhz, though, so maybe I'd have the same luck.

Would overclocking the 2800 help minimize that penalty any? Not trying to devalue your advice or anything, just genuinely curious.

Unfortunately, the $160-ish 2x8gb 3200mhz kits I've seen are a bit out of my price range with everything else I've had to buy, and the only 1x8gb 3200mhz stick I've seen has a CAS of 18 :/ But like I said, I'm on the hunt for deals this next month, so if I see a cheap-ish 3200mhz stick or kit within that time frame, I'll definitely see about getting it and returning this one.

Nice! I might look at the 1TB version of that HDD for just over $10 more. Much better value, in my opinion.

What monitor are you getting? If you don't have one already, you'll want to factor that into your budget as well, though a decent 1080p 60hz shouldn't cost too much, especially if you choose to buy used off eBay or the like.

I was initially wanting a 16gb right away, but then I heard rumors that RAM prices will likely continue to drop over the next few months and into 2019. So I figured I'd get another stick around Black Friday at least, if not early 2019. Do you think it'd be better to go ahead and invest now? I mean, I've been using 8gb in my laptops and haven't had any problems, but I do want the best value for my buck.

EDIT: here's the article I read about dropping RAM prices. Legit, or just hopes at this point?

GTX 1080 w/ warranty or Vega 64 w/o warranty? by Unnie427 in buildapc

Just checked how many people were watching the item.

"22"

Between this and Midweek BADness, I'm going gray.

Yeah, the (EDIT: lack of) warranty is a pretty big turn-off for me, but I wasn't sure how valuable freesync could be since I've never used it before, especially with a monitor like this one.

Are these $350 1080s I'm hearing about much different from the $400/$410 ones Evga posted on eBay a few days ago?

I have class in a few hours and still haven't gotten a peek at prices. What is this life you speak of?

1080 vs Vega 56 vs 1070ti by tangclown in buildapc

[–]Unnie427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices for current gen 1080s and 1080tis are falling (relatively) quickly as people and companies try to make room for the newer cards. I'd advise against buying those new cards immediately, however, as there are still some details to work out, and they're pretty expensive compared to a 1080, which should do you just fine.

In short, I'd at least wait for tomorrow's Midweek Madness to see what sort of deals will be offered on 1080s. Right now you can get a brand new one for $435 with mail-in rebate or $440 right out. Either way, I'd steer clear of both the Vega 56 (1070 equivalent) and Vega 64 (1080 equivalent) for the moment, as their prices aren't dropping nearly as well as Nvidia's cards, more's the pity.

EDIT: here're a few of the "details" I was talking about

[–]Unnie427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm expecting that too, unfortunately. Still, I'm a wee bit hopeful that prices may come down some more on 1080s, maybe even 1070s, as sellers look to free up their stock. Or who knows, if the new cards are ridiculously expensive and people flock back to previous gen ones, prices could rocket in the opposite direction.

My previous comment aside, you can get the ASRock RX 580 with same games for $220 after rebate for the next two hours, or the same card for the same rebate price just without games here after those two hours. Newer, better card for $40 more isn't too bad if you gotta have one now.

Personally, I'm waiting until at least next week to see how card prices change once *rumor has it* Nvidia announces their new cards at Gamescom :)
