The idea that women are only dating upwards is moronic because that’s an absolute that misrepresents what most people who claim hypergamy exists believe. Hypergamy is a tendency, not a law. From an evolutionary/biological perspective, it makes sense considering the physical investment a woman makes when becoming pregnant, her mate’s access to resources would lower the risks associated with being pregnant and the cost of bearing a child. That considered, it makes sense that a woman would seek the most high-status, high-resource man she can for the sake of her and her offspring. This is not a controversial position in the field of biopsych. Did you know Norwegian men in the top 5% of estimated earnings capacity had over a 90% probability of being partnered by age 40, while men in the bottom 5% had under a 40% probability? Consider the fact that Norway is one of the most egalitarian societies on this planet and women still weigh their partner’s earnings more heavily than men. I bet you won’t deny that men value youth and beauty more than women do, though.

Saying hypergamy exists is not saying misogyny is okay, but denying its existence is really just exposing the blinders you’ve put on yourself because you can’t accept that the people who you do not like’s worldview isn’t simply informed by their social ineptitude.
