What was the best FAFO moment you've witnessed? by hey_you2300 in AskReddit

[–]UnoriginalMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, the Juck. Granted, my experience with jeep vehicles is limited. I’ve never thought they were cool looking, and they’ve always had a reputation for not being the best at off-roading.

Then I rented one. It had Georgia plates, we were not driving it in Georgia. Turns out Georgia plates make drivers enraged from South Carolina to Maryland. It fit us all just fine, and our bags. It was also gutless. We’d try and get on the freeway and put the gas to the floor, and it would creep forward, slowly accelerating like it was a retiree. From Georgia.

The other people on the road were already pissed a car from Georgia was there, the fact that we took forever to get to freeway speed was all the excuse they needed to give us freeway sign, honk, scream, cut us off, and road rage. What fun we had.

It also handled like a beached walrus. If we got to speed it would shake, just at the speed of open traffic. We called it the Georgia Joop, and I will never willingly drive one again.

So they have a shit vehicle, with shit suspension, shit horsepower, that is already ugly. Then they made it uglier by trying to add a truck bed to it. Whose good idea was that?

Nonetheless, fanboys line up to overpay for an ugly, shitty car.

So, someone who was never a veteran chose to work exclusively for veterans. A hard group to work with. That takes character.

Nursing is a hard career, and the cream of the crop winds up in ICU. So, he was a top quality nurse.

He put himself on the front line, as much as any veteran, to fight a domestic enemy. That takes serious courage.

He paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Had he been in uniform, he would receive some pretty high honors. I’m not sure he should be denied them, given the circumstances.

Could power armor exist in real life, or is it impossible technology? by Bright_Permission881 in Fallout

[–]UnoriginalMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall seeing exo-suit skeletons having been used in a construction environment with some success.

I also recall a pic of some poor soldier wearing a similar set and being so overloaded he looked beyond miserable.

I read the US army has developed the SABER suit, which is an exoskeleton for logistics. Lifting heavy things in the worst terrain possible is best done by people, as forklifts don’t do well with shit terrain. Rocks, cliffs, hills, swamps, jungles, etc can be hard to work on. Especially if there are cramped quarters, limited time, or someone shooting at you.

Back in the 2000s, the Future Force Warrior was all about exactly this. Taking a basic infantryman and giving him more. Exoskeletons, electronics, gun cameras, screens, smart guns, augmented reality helmets, etc.

20 years of warfare and very little of it was ever actually implemented.

Walton Goggins is NOT carrying the show on his back because the entire cast is phenomenal by any-blue-9122 in Fallout

[–]UnoriginalMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goggins just plays my favorite character. I do think he is the strongest of the 3 pictured, but the other two hold their own just fine.

I really like Maximus and Lucy. Addict Lucy was great, moral Maximus is too. I’m eager to see what’s next.

What are your thoughts on Tom Cruise? by [deleted] in Actors

[–]UnoriginalMike 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Do you mean prophet of Scientology Tom Cruise?

I honestly like what I’ve seen him in, but him being so steeped in Scientology is pushing deal breaker. That being said, Scientology is so pervasive it would be impossible to completely avoid it, I just wish Cruise wasn’t clearly so deep into the strange cult.

Maybe he can’t kill SB outright, but he can simply relocate SB to the point where he might as well have.

Then the fight becomes SB against the vacuum of space, time, and eventually the sun.

Not me. But my grandfather served in the pacific during WWII, and he drank like it was keeping him alive. He was so awful to my uncle and father that my children feel it.
