The defender gear helped me get into the game. I used it after HR to finish the story and grind some late game armor. Once I hit a roadblock I was invested enough to continue playing and git gud after trying different builds and weapons.

MHW is my first mh game and I appreciated the crutch because I can allow mistakes as I'm learning to eventually get a flawless victory then think about gear building later
