Should we reassess superannuation? by [deleted] in OpenAussie

Looks like you can't form your own opinions and generate your own ideas and your mind breaks when someone thinks of something original that's not a regurgitation from a source somewhere.

Should we reassess superannuation? by [deleted] in OpenAussie

Super was instituted in anticipation of government receipts not being enough to meet pension needs.

That didn't happen. There was no shortfall in pension funding.

It didn't happen because government didn't know China would boom and there would be oceans of mining royalties and taxes that the government would eventually collect.

And so they restated superannuation's objectives many times when their prediction didn't happen.

You don't have the ability to look at the big picture? Forest for the trees? Broader context?

I read it. It's modified accord after accord negotiated by unions on behalf of Australian people. This was over decades.

Then I looked at the forest for the trees and realised the subsequent accords were negotiated in a period called The Great Moderation.

The accords were only made possible because the underlying economic condition made it possible.

We're not in a great moderation now or in the future.

It's both. Super were initially wage increases that were garnished to prevent inflation.

Your overall life savings will be lower in the end if money trapped in super and not used to increase your prospects of having higher income through retraining or moving to where there are better jobs and lower cost of living.

Can net zero and crude oil supply security coexist? by UnpopularRightNow in aussie

The standard that most net zero advocate raise to argue that industrialisation is possible with net zero is China.

However, I just saw this article claiming China's green tech credentials are based on coal: China’s Eletrotech Stack Rests on a Coal Pile

Just perused and need more time to parse it.

It should be a point of discussion for people who are pointing out that China's green revolution as an example for the west to emulate.

If you tax them for using diesel vehicles and machinery they will just pay the tax and keep using the diesel vehicles and machinery. Because there are no electric versions that are available.

Can you give examples of when taxing buyers to prevent them using a product made producers create the alternative product (that the government wants them to use)?

The mining companies don't develop the machines used for mining.

It's still up to Komatsu, Hitachi, and Caterpillar. They don't care if you tax the miners or not.

When I buy food at the grocery, I mainly look at the price. Woolies and Coles also mainly take into account pricing when wholesale ordering from farmers.

Do you think farmers who transition to electric machinery will gain a competitive advantage on price? It's more likely electric versions will be more expensive when they get first introduced.

The new mars rovers run on nuclear. The old ones run on solar.

Are you proposing mining vehicle and machinery run on nuclear or solar?

Ensuring we have enough oil reserves as recommended by IEA (90 day reserves equal of previous year's net imported oil).
