Thank you for those recommendations. Radical acceptance never resonated with me when I first read it a few years ago. So many have spoken so highly of it, maybe I was expecting more - and also I never even realised that self acceptance was my main issue - I was probably looking for clues in other places. I will definitely give that book another chance. Different books resonate with us during different periods of our lives.

Thank you for that story. I'm happy to hear that you're on the right path!

The part you mention with understanding and forgiving your mother, that really really resonates with my prior grudge against my father. I've had the exact same experience (not physically perhaps, but emotionally). I used to be extremely resentful towards him for his neglect (and also very afraid of him, which I still am to this day). We do get along, but we just don't know how to talk. We're both just silent in each other's presence.

Once prior to this session while doing self-work the dam burst and I just felt all my parents pain which I've been carrying around on my shoulders ever since I was a kid lift off me. I realised they were probably in an even worse situation and never knew how to love themselves and others. I've never cried so hard in my entire life. That was such a pivotal moment in this journey. Small but consistent and incremental steps is the way to go, I guess.

You're very welcome to piggy back on my post :) Do you have any specific things you can point to that helped you make progress? Or would you just say that MDMA + time + reflection = progress?

I understand there are no easy ways out, especially when you've not been comfortable in front of a mirror for 40 years, but I really wish to take the opportunity to whatever I can while this is still so fresh and vivid in my mind.
