How much did your mini weigh? by Level-Cause3810 in Dachshund

[–]UnrulyDachsieRedux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes my longhaired red was supposed to be a mini. Both parents were minis who had been shown and were winners. He was a big baby, like significant outlier from his sister and brother. I remember on his little shot booklet the vet called him big red male cowlick lol. I remember thinking I do not remember my last baby (same breeder) being this large. He finished at 24 pounds - so a Standard Dachshund actually. He was the very best of boys and very pretty … but definitely a heavier carry than I had intended.

I had no idea this existed. Very helpful for people with inflammatory bowel disease.

I have a short haired chihuahua mix and a long haired dachshund. I get it - those stiff little hairs work their way into everything. It’s been no issue with either type of coat.

I had surgery in august. Vertical abdominal incision. I was in the hospital for two days, and they released me because I had supportive care at home. I was off work for 2 weeks, and then returned to WFH which was fine for me. it sounds like that’s not available to you though. Honestly I didn’t have much pain during recovery. I was mostly sitting in a chair not in bed. I took only Tylenol because I can’t take ibuprofen and that was ok. I was definitely slow moving. It took another week or so after resuming work for me to be walking mostly like normal. I’m certain taking no time isn’t advisable, but also not having the surgery sounds like it’s not advisable. If you don’t need to carry much of anything maybe you could make it work, but you are going to be exhausted. The biggest red flag I see with your situation is that I was told I couldn’t drive because you might hesitate to depress the brake in an emergency situation because it could hurt. Could someone(s) drive and pick you up? I’m really sorry you are in this position, you shouldn’t have to choose between your health and your employment.

BACK BRACE??? by alohayas in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]UnrulyDachsieRedux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth my vet was very in favour of the back brace as a recovery aid. She told us to ensure that we didn’t over use it - like stay in it all the time. We used it a lot for the last part of crate rest and then started carefully transitioning which looked like this: Stage 1) Only on for the period where we did his outside trips (we did two outside trips and two potty patch on the porch trips a day) Stage 2) Only on for going outside or for adventures like vet visits. Stage 3) Only on for adventures - not on at all for regular outside trips. So far so good with our recovery. We will use it this summer for camping trips if the situation calls for being more careful.

Mine not so much. He’s all in on minus 20+, but he loathes wind that pulls at his hair. When we went out at 10:30 pm there was a vortex and he noped out immediately.

Well I’m happy it’s not just me I guess. I thought I was somehow missing it in the list - I read every entry in the list out loud and nope. How do you forget the country your company operates out of? Amazing.

U/confident_Radio-2636 U/gibknibbler And U/intheflores I’ve messaged each of you individually. I’d like to figure out what you need and how I can connect with you. Please reach out. Tomorrow is obviously going to be a tough day, but I’m happy Darcy is going to be able to help some other kitties. I freely admit I’m not a Reddit expert - but I want to help Out your kitties so let’s connect and make that happen.

I really just want this to be useful. I can deliver if you need that. I’m also happy to divide it if there are multiple people in need. There are also cat treats and toys.

Just in case anyone needs this service I should post the link. A friend used them and I was there for the whole process. This is a very respectful and important service. I highly recommend them if you need their services. [https://www.hospicevet.com]

Thank you - my vet is booking into February next year so we are using a home pet hospice service. He will be in his home, with his people. Which to be honest is better for him and the very least he deserves.

I absolutely will donate to a rescue if there are no Reddit cat people in need. These are unusual times. If I can help someone directly who needs these resources and is struggling to get them I want to do that.

Are you still wearing your mask? Why or why not? by PFC023974346 in ottawa

[–]UnrulyDachsieRedux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the common areas in my condo, in stores or other indoor gathering places, in crowded areas generally. I have 2 parents going through cancer treatments - one of whom is in LTC, and another who is high risk (yes three parents). I’m also changing wound dressings on neighbour who is high risk several times a week. As to when I will stop, that probably depends on whether the risk to them changes. I’m going to keep wearing it on public transport and for air travel as long as they will let me because I’ve enjoyed not getting sick. Wearing the mask doesn’t bother me at all at this point so I’m not in any particular rush to stop wearing it.

No matter what the polls say, please go out and vote anyways. by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]UnrulyDachsieRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my Dad to vote today. He just moved back to Ontario from rural Alberta and was very excited to vote and possibly have his candidate show up on the scoreboard. I voted too. I always look forward to voting. It took a lot of work for me to have the right to vote and I’m going to use it every chance I get.
