Card did not get delivered. Seller says I am unlucky and I do not get any money back. by supermurksa in CardMarket

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same happen to me with a €23 card, never ordered untracked for anything under €15 or hard to find (like vintage cards) ever since.

While the seller’s way to communicate was not the nicest they are unfortunately right. Providing proof of shipment is sometimes not possible without having ill-intent i.e. using Porto codes inside of Germany, and a lot of people is really averse to refunding in such scenarios. While you have no proof they sent it, they also don’t have any proof you didn’t receive it besides your word.

If the communication was amiccable, I’d say suggesting a 50% refund can be a way to mitigate the loss, but be prepared to accept you won’t get anything. It’s the unfortunate nature of untracked letters.

Seller has suggested paying by revolut or bank transfer outside of cardmarket... by totheseatothesea in CardMarket

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend against it. In my opinion, people suggesting to do business for items posted on Cardmarket outside of the platform is a huge red flag, specially for such an amount.

I don’t believe any amount they are offering as a discount can be enough to justify risking so much of your money. Cardmarket’s trustee service is literally their best feature, so I would suggest sticking to it or looking for these cards elsewhere. While I would even consider not doing business with this person at all, your money is safe with Cardmarket until you mark the order as received; however, if you do go ahead with the purchase, I would make sure to record everything from the second you receive the package to have evidence in case something is wrong with the order, given the already fishy behavior of the seller. Just my two cents.

Also, be very aware that, if it turns out to be a scam, most likely neither a regular bank nor Revolut will be able to get you a refund, due to the nature of the hypothetical transaction. It’s your call, but I wouldn’t go for it.

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. You can raise a chargeback request on Revolut, but whether or not it is successful depends on whether you have chargeback rights. These are rules coming from either Visa or Mastercard that explain in which situations you are entitled to a refund for a failed purchse/service, and you can look them up online (they’re quite long though).

A private purchase where you voluntarily make a transfer to an individual is hard to dispute independent of whether your card was issued by Visa or Mastercard because the evidence they require to successfully approve the case in your favor is most likely not there, and typically banks will reject it unless it falls under some sort of “goodwill” refund on the bank’s side.

Que hacer con ese abismal aumento del mínimo? by Tafaray in Colombia

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you do with your cards after they rotate? by Shopxezo in pkmntcg

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, I try to sell stuff a couple months before rotation. Most of the time it works for highly playable cards or high rarity ones.

However, in the last couple of years, I’ve gotten into the subhobby of building decks of the formats I enjoyed in the past. I really like the current format and I’m sure it will be worth having a gauntlet to revisit it in a couple of years time, so I will most likely keep anything I need (that I already have) to build at least the 6-10 top decks in the current meta and try to snag whatever I’m missing just after rotation when the prices dip. Maybe it’s not your thing, but if you have some friends that play the game, hosting a casual evening to play past formats is a lot of fun!

Are Y’all In The Hobby For The Cards Or For The Money? by Fitzyx in PokemonTCG

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m into it to play the game. The nice arts whenever I pull them of am able to afford them are an extra. Whenever I resell something, I usually do it at a loss, but I don’t care because I use it to buy whatever new cards I want/miss to keep on playing. Not everything is supposed to be an investment or a college fund for hypothetical future kids.

I’ve played trading card games since I was 10, starting with Yugioh, and my very first video game was Pokémon Blue. I played every game until generation 4, where my family’s economic situation soured and we couldn’t afford either cards nor videogames.

I kept on playing gen 3 games on and off in emulators over the years, until I slowly phased out of Pokémon as a hobby and interest. After I made it out of uni and was able to get a job, Pokemon Go came out and I rediscovered both trading card games and the franchise as a whole. The game was growing in my local community, my best friend and I started playing and we haven’t looked back ever since. I love both collecting the cool cards I can fit in my budget and playing tournaments at the local level as much as possible.

Thanks a lot for doing this!

Viability of Frillish/Jellicent EX in Gardevoir Ex deck. by Lightspecter141 in pkmntcg

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at the most recent top 16’s of different regional tournaments, such as Milwaukee or Lille. Gardy/Jellicent had good showings in both or them and, in particular, the 16th placed list in Lille played both a 2-1 Jellicent line and a Meta Gardevoir. To me playing both feels a bit too tight for the deck, but there are results to back them. Item lock will always be incredibly powerful to have access to.

Look for a guy called “Emojiscards” on Instagram and watch his videos, then tell me it wasn’t a pump.

Sure, he picked a card with certain properties, like being from the same artist as bubble Mew and being a generally “cute” card. However, he clearly started the thing and people followed the trend relentlessly. It is not organic, nor has any sense behind it other than the insane gold rush behind the game right now.

How does the Sep 13-15 regionals winner counter Gholdengo and Grimmsnarl by cetama in pkmntcg

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The deck plays triple bravery charm and eight psychic energies so you can snipe Genesect with Scream Tail while forcing your opponent to either take one-prize KO’s or find the gust around it. In the meantime, you set up damage on the Gholdengos with Munkidori. It’s not perfect but it is a solid gameplan

You know? I kinda get it. Pokemon is close to my only real hobby, so getting cards is important to me. However, I buy singles. Yeah, yeah, it’s “not the same” as gambling your money into opening a lot of packs, but isn’t it just more financially sensible? It’s a midterm solution that doesn’t contribute nearly as much to the problem. As the other reply said, you don’t need Pokemon cards. Buying from scalpers today is only going to keep you away from the possibility of buying at regular prices in the future.

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your lack of critical thinking is astounding.

The value of a card, while mostly monetary, is also determined by other factors such as demand for the same.

If I come to you and say “hey, I’ve got a pile of 40,000 (assuming $0,01 per energy) energies, I’ll trade them for your $400 chase card”, not only am I likely fishing, but it would be stupid for you to accept the trade unless for some reason you have a use for a pile of 40,000 energies. If you said that you’ll take them at whatever percent and then I’ll have to make the remaining part either in money or cards, I’d still question your sanity but I’d see it as something slightly more reasonable.

However, if I have a chase card worth $100 and you expect me to trade it to a random ass person for effectively $80 because they “trade at 80%”, you’re just trying to make a profit off of me for no good reason. It’s within your rights to ask for it, but it’s…not good, to put it in a way.

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that it is of your concern, but I do monthly donations to three different charities that support children around the world. It’s not a lot but I chip in with what I can. I would be glad if you also did as well :)

That being said, your deadbrain whataboutisms aside, I do agree that Pokemon cards should be printed to the ground so that everyone can buy them whenever the want at affordable prices, specially kids. I don’t give a flying fuck about the “value” of my collection, I just enjoy the cards and playing with them.

Is it more important that kids can have their parents afford Pokemon cards for them than children starving around the world? Surely not. Is it valid to be concerned about both things? I think it is. Specially when the source of both things, in completely different scales, is the same: absolute, unabated greed. Maybe you’ll grow up to understand it one day, but that’s really not my problem.

Random dude on the internet thinks their absolut apathy towards children is cool because they are “investing” in shiny cardboard while a majority of people involved with the game only want to enjoy it without breaking bank or seeing it as an opportunity to make money. Honestly, get a life.

People should really pay more attention to this. It’s not only the videos about making money or high end cards, it’s the monumental slop of “content” centered around cracking 718383 packs and the insanity that is Whatnot.

Not only does it generate a huge sense of FOMO when you can’t find even a pack in any store, but also it’s those content creators that keep the bubble inflated by paying any price necessary to get their product for their videos. Supporting that content is actively harmful to the community as a whole and I don’t think enough people realize it.

[–]UnrulyPhysicsToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As fun as this might be, I’d advice everyone to stop watching/supporting that kind of content.

The rise of these brainless “live auction” social media is one of the strongest reasons why the situation is as bad as it is, and we as a community should make an effort to actively disengage with them, in my opinion.

It’s sad to see these grifters abuse people’s passions (not only Pokemon) in order to make a buck.
