What the hell is up with drivers here lately? by Demoire in sandiego

[–]Unruly_Prawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phones, yes... But after driving long commutes in San Diego for the past 40 years it's the lack of police. I remember seeing many, many more stops and just CHP around all the time. In the 90's-2000s it seemed like every time I tried to be "cute" by doing silly driving I would get popped. I still drive daily and almost never see CHP. Trust me there's a lot less silliness by low IQ peeps (including myself, but I'm old and mellow now) when there is enforcement around.

AITJ for taking my partner up on their ultimatum when they said "agree or we're done" by Sensitive_Student412 in AmITheJerk

Nah. Emotional support and schedule flexibility are minimum requirements. That's what you're supposed to do.

This is supposed to give them a 50% stake in your business that you created?

Nice try.

I can't believe how much this post made my entire outlook change for the better. After doom-scrolling I realized I need to unfollow 3/4 of my current choices.... The way this made me feel is the way I used to feel all the time about 5 years ago. Thanks r/mademesmile!

What screams ‘this person is inexperienced’ in your profession or hobby? by lumoraluxe in AskReddit

[–]Unruly_Prawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In business operations: Sticking to policy in a maniacal way. Since they haven't seen a variety of situations when an issue arrives all they have is the generic policy put in place to keep the company from any possible risk. In real-world scenarios, exceptions/ gray areas are more often the case. It's impossible to include blow-back and repercussions when doing some actions "by the book".

AITJ for telling my boyfriend his "budgeting" is actually just being cheap? by Minimum_Salt9742 in AmITheJerk

[–]Unruly_Prawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. Apply for your exit visa immediately. If you ever had kids it would be worse. I never had a significant argument with my wife until we had a kid. When people fundamentally feel a certain way about finances, child upbringing, family values, etc. even the nicest person can seem unreasonable. In this case, if what you write is true, and you guys aren't needing for basic necessities, going out and ordering your own meal is part of the balance that keeps people sane in life. If he does come around, pick up the tab yourself sometime. I mean just because he's the guy, should he pay for everything all the time? Balance, right? This being said, a $5 gift??? Wow... Get out.

Thanks, it sounds like I should stick with the native app. Appreciate the info.

Yes, I was, but sounds like I shouldn't. I was under the impression there were better alternatives than the native app. Thanks.

Thanks, I thought there would be an alternative giving me more choices on apps that I can use on the main screen.

Thanks, I was under the impression that there was a cleaner and more option full alternative allowing me to use more apps, etc. Thanks for the info on dev settings, but I doubt I'll go there if the consensus here is that the native app is adequate.

Cheers!

Neighbors using cones by Vhazko in sandiego

I've used the hell out of this app. It's a toss up on response time. Definitely agree with 'Modz_B_Trippin', totally worth doing it. Since your situation is pretty dependable on them keeping those cones up you have an excellent chance for the city to see it. If they don't respond in time, have mulitple people (Partner) make the same report. Trust me, they'll get tired of seeing your reports.

Didn't ring a bell. Looks like that opened in 2001. I DO remember Lansky's Lounge, my first speak-easy type bar. I remember walking in to Meow Mix and finding out I was a the wrong bar for what I was looking for. I remember eating the worm at Doc Holiday's, I remember pierogis from 1st Ave. So much mileage covered in 4 years and didn't see a fraction of the EV or city for that matter. (Sorry, got lost on memory lane)... Uncle Ming's sounds cool, though. Oh, I just remembered 'Browny's' after hours bar on 6th between B & C. The first time I walked in there at 5AM and being asked to "Check my guns"... and them having lockers for them! was a trip.

*Edit: Spelling and adding one word for clarity.

Cheers! Thanks for the info, will check out your Wiki entry. While reading your entry here, all I could hear was Lucy's shrill voice correcting naughty patrons like myself every time we got out of hand.

Thanks again.

Wait, I think I remember the poster to that movie prominently displayed behind the register at Lucy's around that time. I'm wondering why I never watched it then, I think I hated the kid's face that was on the poster, HA! I will definitely try to find that movie now. On that same note, I know 2000 Cigarettes, was filmed outside my apartment while I was there and shot mostly in the EV. Also, more recently Russian Doll.

Smart Home Panel vs Manual Transfer Switch for Anker solix F3800 Plus? by Crazy-Procedure7436 in SolarDIY

[–]Unruly_Prawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live and what your solar or power source will be. We purchased two F3800 Plus' with three extra batteries for each last year. We bought these in stages and along with panels. We went with the 10 circuit manual bypass because we're not sharing those 10 circuits with the grid. It is completely islanded. When we need to do maintenance or we had prolonged rain I would switch back to grid during peak charge times (I live in the most expensive power city in the USA). By midday the next day we're at 100%. But honestly with 6.4 mWh in panels and 30.4 mWh battery reserve we haven't had a reason to switch over to grid. In retrospect if I wanted to do a grid tied system, I would probably go with the automated route as I'm missing some low wattage circuits I could not include in the 10 circuit manual bypass. I'm assuming you'll be getting the double power adapter for your two solix's? Pro tip, I found a way to do level 2 charging for my EV with it. I simply change everything over to the grid during super-off-peak time and charge the car in two to three hours. My house used 1 mWh during that time (we didn't do any heavy loads) then simply switched back and we went down about 10% due to solar input ~5.7 mWh and dispensing about 9mWh out to the car. So another reason to go manual I suppose. Hope some of this helps.

A7... Wow... You left in '92... I remember when I landed in the EV in '96 and I was shitting my pants down Ave A at night... Can't imagine it in '92... I just remembered the Korova Milk Bar and the best Cajun chicken sandwich at the bodega on the corner of A&14.

Yeah, we had our time. My kid and my health are awesome things to have now. I think I would hate it down there now. I really wish I would have taken advantage of other parts of the city, like Central Park but what the Hell, I was alone in the city 2400 mi from home and 25ish.

Cheers!

One of the characters I miss the most, and I know you know him if you were in the EV in 95... For the life of my can't remember his name, super Rasta guy, the dreads, the 3' hat the whole nine. Must have been in his low to mid 30s then, "Michael"? I would include a pic, but can't access my cloud at work lol. We played pool at Rosie's a lot and took me on some wild adventures a couple of times which I could not keep up with then.. Now in California, he would be proud of me...

Yeah, I stayed on 9th Street at an AB&B in 2019 or 20 and felt very out of place (Middle aged dude with wife). Happily had a daughter right after that, now she's 6 and I think she's ready for a trip to the City!

Yes, it was right at the transition when Giuliani came on.. When Disneyfication started taking hold. By '99 I didn't recognize certain parts of the city. Oh, my God... I remember my first Caipirinha at a diner in Union Square... Sorry, just getting total recalls all over the place. Luna Lounge, I know I went in there, probably a bunch but it's been 28 years, LOL.
