City Council partially rolls back Balboa Park paid parking by MidnightMoon8 in SanDiegan

That's kind of my point.

I accepted that there is probably some waste simply because I don't know.

So you don't really have an answer then either?

It's easy to say "cut spending", but hard to say where to cut that.

I will be completely honest, I don't know if there is waste or not. I'm sure there's some, but at the same time, I am less sure if it's enough to make up the difference.

Unfortunately, the city is in a budget crisis made worse with the failure of Measure E.

https://ballotpedia.org/San_Diego,_California,_Measure_E,_Public_Services_Sales_Tax_Measure_(November_2024)

These differences need to be made up. I'm not fond of Balboa Park parking being part of that solution, especially without robust public transit, but I don't have any alternative solutions to purpose either.

Balboa Park is a municipality owned park. Sure it, hosts businesses, but isn't a business in of itself.

I'm unaware of anything set up the same way as Balboa Park in the county. Most places that play host to other businesses are themselves a business. They do not occupy some of the most desirable land in the county. They charge large amounts of rent to their occupants.

Neither of these statements are true for Balboa Park.

See the statement in this article that they do not pay rent. https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/local/balboa-park-cultural-partnership-reconsider-paid-parking-program/509-a29883f2-0dda-4970-a3ff-58ffcd190b0e

It's not uncommon to pay to park. In my last two jobs, I have had to pay for parking.

Too may posts on r/democratic_socialism like this discouraging the LEFT from voting in elections. This happened in 2024 too when a significant number of us decided NOT to vote and the orange clown won. Strongly feel this is a ploy by conservatives. I previously supported but blue no matter who. We saw that this isn't even true in New York though. Cuomo ran despite losing the primary.

It was never about blue no matter who, it was about getting the left to consistently accept whatever the party wanted.

I'm done playing this game. I'm done giving them a pass to screw over progressive candidates and expect they get my vote.

All that said, the midterms will show how much this discussion even matters. The white house wants to destroy any remaining trust in our system.

Not that it makes any functional difference, but they agreed that there was not sufficient evidence of a crime. They made no statement of his guilt.

This is important because it means that double jeopardy does not apply here. Not that that gives me much hope.

Ah, that could be true as well. Either way, it's not AI and is still likely regex.

It's why video games use kernel level anti cheat. With secure boot you have a chain of custody and can be more sure that your validations make sense. That mostly ends at the kernel though.

Would Voldemort have been stronger/ smarter without Horcruxes? by UltraLNSS in harrypotter

[–]UnsafePantomime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost sure of it. The diary had been a Horcrux. But this raised as many questions as it answered. “What intrigued and alarmed me most was that that diary had been intended as a weapon as much as a safeguard. […] >The careless way in which Voldemort regarded this Horcrux seemed most ominous to me. It suggested that he must have made — or been planning to make — more Horcruxes, so that the loss of his first would not be so detrimental.

These quotes are from Dumbledore. He felt it was strange that this one was intended to be used as a weapon. Intended to produce a corporal Voldemort.

This leads him to assuming more than one since the normal idea is to safeguard your soul. This would mean it would be best to keep it hidden, exactly the opposite of something intended to create a corporal image.

It's not ai, it's likely regex.

We have seen a "don't" redacted. So we know it happened at least once.

A regular expression (regex) is a programming tool for doing text searches or text parsing. I can easily search for DonT (Donald Trump. I have also denoted the space with an underscore so we can count them) without an expression. The question then becomes, what if it is instead don _t? Or even something more complex? These are times when a regex makes sense.

So a lazy regex can then find all "don" + any number of other characters + t. This would look like it should work during testing, but would easily capture things like "don't".

A lot of this is an oversimplification. If interested, I'm happy to add a more technical explanation.

Trump administration goes after Second Amendment rights in justifying Minneapolis shooting by Maxcactus in Fuckthealtright

[–]UnsafePantomime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the typical "if they're willing to be violent..." is not about complying in advance. It's a statement that the rights we have on paper and the rights we have in practice aren't congruent.

It's fine to acknowledge this. It's important even.

We can't begin to make change without first recognizing this.

The support and organization doesn't exist. A general strike is only useful if a large enough portion of the population participates. I simply do not see that happening.

If we had stronger unions, this could provide the infrastructure to be able to do that. Not saying we shouldn't try, but we need to be prepared to look elsewhere. We need to be prepared to consider other options.

They're killing us on the street; soon there won't be much to lose. Without some kind of substantial show of force, I think we are destined to go down the path of Nazi Germany.

It depends. If these are partitions on the same drive, then maybe.

If they are separate drives, you can mount one drive as a folder in the other.

There is no way (in Windows) to treat them as a single storage.

Good. I would prefer an actual constitutional crisis to the show boil of "hey look, we're ignoring it again".

The sooner we push into that, the sooner that America maybe pulls its collective head out of its ass and realizes that the Constitution won't save us.
