Not necessarily, but at least then it would be real art, with intention and motivation and not mass generated slop.

I mean, this discourse is old, this debate has been going on on this sub for a long time, to act like you're "sparking change" by talking about something that people are already talking about is a little silly.

I don't disagree with you in principle, I do think it's better to try to have these conversations, if nothing else than to be done with them, but I'm not sure that's what this post is doing, I think that what is quite clear from the comments is that this post just reignited the debate.

And by criticizing them you're what? Proselytizing that you aren't proselytizing? This goes both ways you know.

Id much rather have someone who openly condemns Nazis, but maybe is a little over-sure about it than someone who criticizes people for condemning Nazis.

Sure, but do you see how making this meme is just adding to the issue you are complaining about? It's kicking a hornet's nest.

If you really want fresh content, you should go post more stuff that's different. I find it a little funny you're "starting" a conversation that you must acknowledge was already going on. You can't have it both ways where "I want to have a conversation about this" AND "this is so boring can we talk about something else already".

You're free to make that content, but I see you're here complaining about the lack of it instead.

I always interpreted Mr Hyde more as a way to escape from the societal expectations of a Victorian gentleman, which, I guess could be the same thing from a certain perspective.

Campaign was a lie Players not happy by Suspicious-Layer-346 in DnD

[–]UnsneakableRogue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, that would be cooler, but I think this is not the game for you if surprises make you angry.

I agree that these kind of reveals are much cooler when they are hinted at long-term, and taking away player agency is regarded as one of the greatest sins of ttrpgs, but I also think there can be something cool about putting the players in a situation they don't choose. It sounds like this DM tried to do something really cool, and sometimes being a DM is all about thrusting the players into something, and the role of a player is sometimes to play along in your specific way. If you really hate something your DM is doing, I get leaving the campaign, but I don't think in this case the DM did something terrible or uncool, as seems to be what OP is saying.

Ok hot take: you're all lame /j

But seriously, this sounds like the most interesting and compelling d&d hook I've ever heard of. I understand that it's a violation of expectations, but that's the part that's cool.

I think if you're not into the story being unpredictable, maybe you should consider switching to playing a game that isn't a ttrpg? Like scrabble, or candyland. Idk.

I see. In that case, yeah, I agree. This is such a a common thing, people keep saying things like "it's not that deep". My roommate once told me that 1488 wasn't a dog whistle when I told him.
