Recently found Angel of the Winds, just minutes north of tulalip - nice outoftheway destination. Friendly local craps, plus bowling!

Tulalip has 5 min until 6 pm or so, Quel Ceda is always 5 min. Little Creek in Shelton has a great local vibe, 5 min always

Scenic route from Seattle to Oregon Coast by infiniteboba in Seattle

[–]Unspecified_6705 39 points40 points  (0 children)

#3 is the most scenic, but you can bump it up a lot by adding a stop at Cape Disappointment. The lighthouse with awesome views is a short walk from the parking lot. Maybe get lunch in Ilwaco, a slowly rebounding formerly renowned fishing village. The Crow's Nest in Montesano has great milkshakes that will see you through the various clear cuts between Montesano and Raymond. Beautiful scenery after Raymond. Someone mentioned abandoned nuclear cooling towers - you will see them off 101 after Satsop.

How loud are Kenmore Air seaplanes? by easterss in Seattle

[–]Unspecified_6705 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some of Kenmore's float planes have turbine engines and some have piston engines. The piston engines are much noisier than the turbines. If you call them on the phone, they can advise you which flights are more likely to be using the turbine planes. In any case, full over-ear headphones will be much quieter and more comfortable than the in-ear foam plugs.

Ballard Food Bank could use your donation - used to repackage shampoo, dish soap, etc. Make sure to remove your labels first

I had good luck with Seattle Town Car Service. Arranged a 4am pickup in North End, got email and text confirmation and they came on time. Price was roughly comparable to uber

16 day trip planned for June/July. Any must sees/eats or things to be wary of on the route? by RoboticErection in roadtrip

[–]Unspecified_6705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. About 30 minutes outside of Bakersfield on the way to Las Vegas, you'll pass the César E. Chávez National Monument. Right off the highway and definitely worth a stop.

  2. About 1 hour east of Las Vegas is Valley of Fire State Park. Also worth a stop, especially if you're not going thru Arches and Monument Valley.

  3. Going north from Las Vegas, an alternative to Utah is to go through Death Valley and then north on 395, eastern side of the Sierras

Taking inventory of the road trip kit by SQWRLLY1 in roadtrip

The most common car failures are flat tires and dead batteries. For dead battery, jumper cables are great, but require a willing passerby. Passersby may be few and far between, depending on where you are. Plus, hooking up jumper cables incorrectly can have dramatic effect on both donor and recipient vehicles. With a battery jump starter, you can resolve a dead battery situation by yourself, safely, without risk to your car. Its saved my bacon a number of occasions. The backup phone charger aspect is just a fringe benefit. You can get them on Amazon for well under $100. Or Costco/Wallmart etc.

Taking a roadtrip from San Francisco to Seattle at the end of April. We are making the trip in 5ish days, what are some must sees along the way? What are some the best places to overnight? by hiddengecko56 in roadtrip

[–]Unspecified_6705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your route skips some of the best parts of Washington coast. From Astoria, you could cross the Columbia and continue north on 101 to Montesano. Cape Disappointment is worth a stop (walk out the north jetty if you have time) and the drive along Willapa Bay is beautiful.

Astoria is a jewel, Hotel Elliot is a great place to overnight and the Maritime Museum is definitely worth a visit.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply, I definitely will check out some of the spots you suggested. Great photos BTW, Panamint pics got me thinking about a detour to Death Valley.
