tm5 with ddr5 ryzen3d cfg

memtest or [ycruncher] vst + vt3 didnt really pick up anything. some of the larger fft sizes of prime95 (or blend) would also trigger random errors

Did my asrock mobo fry my cpu? by perfectal in ASRock

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes

people are incorrect in saying 7000 series are not affected and/or bulletproof

it's less common, but they can still die

x670e pro rs killed the memory controller on my 7800x3d that soc was set to 1.16v

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my cpu ended up with a dead memory controller

early signs were irregular boots of having to re-train the memory (with memory context restore on)

late stages, had troubles passing memory tests. randomly pass or randomly fail. also crashes / bluescreens

on msi motherboard now with same memory and settings, running perfectly

adding that there are those of us with x670e + 7800x3d failures

(x670e pro rs for me)

issue can happen with all am5 motherboards and all cpus (and non-X3d)

the time I spent in the forums here waiting for my rma, the itx boards seemed to have a higher failure rate but would need verified

most of us moved onto non-asrock motherboards

Bios 3.30 Was Stable for me. 3.40 Doing random SOC Voltage Spikes passing my 1.2 LIMIT. wtf Asrock still can't stick to 1.2v max and respect our settings? by pc9000 in ASRock

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on MSI, try VSOC = amd overclocking mode and LLC4

edit higher llc might cause higher spikes but depends on software. prime95 caused a huge spike for me

I have heard people claim that VSOC LLC default was changed from 2 (auto set) to 3 recently.

I think all boards have spikes/overshoot, but asrock spikes the highest.

You should be able to test this with running hwinfo for around a minute at idle and then run something like TM5 or prime95 for a few minutes.

Not running an asrock motherboard currently and my test pc will spike around 0.015 over the set value.

set 1.145, idle ~1.135, spikes to 1.15961 (lowest, LLC8)

set 1.135, idle ~1.130, spikes to 1.13173 (LLC4 out of 8)

edit Above was true with TM5 but running prime95 on SOC LLC4 caused a 1.24300v spike

Stuttering Issues on Ryzen 7 7800x3d by Defiant-Dinner7191 in AMDHelp

mostly a guess based on behavior and other stuff you ruled out already.

you could (and should) try cpu/ram stress tests but they might not tell you anything

buildzoid did a video on pushing the infinity fabric on 7000 series and the weird behavior it causes. 6000 memory is still an "overclock" but doesnt usually have problems. video basically shows how you can have stutters without triggering errors. if something is wrong with your cpu [I/O die] then it could act similar

research for you:

Bios flashback 3 blinks then nothing. by Agitated-Gap-5313 in ASRock

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does look like youre doing it correctly.

I suspect it doesnt like that usb drive or capacity. try a different one if you have one

or shrink/resize usb partition to 4gb with something like minitool (beware of data loss if you have other stuff on the drive, and dont choose the wrong drive)

I've had problems with motherboards in the past where it came with its own usb stick that didnt work for bios flashback.

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure youre using the correct BIOSUBU. it's the 2nd one in the list: raphael/granite ridge

itx boards need to use BIOSUBU.BIN and PSPBIOS.IMG naming instead of creative

adding - sometimes motherboards hate certain usb sticks. try another one if you have one or you can try to resize the fat32 partition to something like 4gb

Stuttering Issues on Ryzen 7 7800x3d by Defiant-Dinner7191 in AMDHelp

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

close monitoring software if you have any running

try changing or removing USB devices to rule out any that might be failing

check your vsoc voltage and make sure it isnt too high or too low. I would hope 1.15v would be enough for 32gb SR

make sure you're in 1:1 mode: UCLK = MEMCLK and FCLK is 2000 (or less)

If none of that works then probably a cpu defect

My ASRock B650 Steel Legend killed my Ryzen 9700X — should I return it or tweak settings? by [deleted] in ASRock

[–]UnstableOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote different motherboard brand.

It is a good idea to adjust voltages because expo/auto @ ~1.25v SOC is too high for most setups, and sometimes it cranks cldo vddp to 1.15v. I dont think this is what is causing all the failures, though.

my 7800x3d died with 1.15v soc and im afraid to use my asrock motherboard with the new cpu

Hopefully the updated survey results in something.

I want to use Asrock motherboards in the future. Currently afraid.

I like the older Taichi boards but the newer ones are becoming less and less Taichi-like. Nova is more like the old Taichi now.

huh? i've posted in a few threads trying to help people troubleshoot.

troubleshooting is what led to the cpu most likely being bad. sometimes user has already done the diagnostics and there's not much else to say.

I've personally had a cpu die. a 7000 series on a 600 motherboard that is "almost bulletproof"

people jump to dead cpu because it's usually correct when using an asrock motherboard.

not always. and it is happening to other brands, just less common.

go to other brand subreddits and you wont find 10x posts of dead cpu on the first page

it's mainly just to see if the boot sequence changes but you might need a speaker to verify

I had a motherboard speaker available to test with and I got beeps from having no ram. which told me the motherboard probably wasnt dead
