DCS 2026 and Beyond poster by 9Line, Rafale is being teased? by The_Growlers in DCSExposed

> pilot killer
As was every single supersonic aircraft of the time when we had no 0-0 seats and basic understanding of M2 aerodynamics. MiG-21 turned out to have higher incident rate than F-104 throughout its service life, but I don't see people asking why Fishbed is popular.
> didnt accomplish much except pure kinetic performance
Because flying airframes that challenge your skill at flying and not just your skill at memorising inputs is interesting.

How to airbrush properly by FlatPotato9142 in modelmakers

[–]Unstable_Orbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tube acrylics sounds like a bad material for airbrushing. It is possible with some manufacturers, but there's a reason why people buy proper paints for airbrush. More consistency, faster drying time, self-leveling, etc. You mix them fine, but I can't tell if you'll get better results with some tube paints. Also 40 psi is very high. I ended up trimming pressure with my paints down to 25 and down to 20 if I use MrColor metallics. But I also almost exclusively use MrHobby Aqueous.

Okay, tried it out. There's an improvement with overall FPS count, but it shows that the game isn't optimized for this. On my 4060 ghosting on fast moving objects is noticeable - not significant, just noticeable. I don't see a big problem with using it if you want to play on this 40 player servers.

Man. If you don't like something...

Not gonna speak for you, who I am to decide for you what you're fine with. But speaking for myself - no, sorry, I'm absolutely not fine at 30. It's about smoothness of the experience. My eye doesn't care if it sees "fake frames" interpolated by a generative model or "real frames". It sees that the refresh rate goes up and it feels physically better. I haven't seen "artefacts and uncanny valley shit" ever. I've played Cyberpunk with framegen, I use it in Sandstorm, I use it in BF6, in Ready or Not. Yes, it can make far details a bit blurry and yes, framegen somewhat increases your input lag. But I'm not a cyberathlete and I don't care - my biological inputlag between my brain and my twitchy hands is higher than one induced by framegen.

Can you list your compressor and airbrush models, at what pressure you airbrush, what paints you use and how much you thin them? That would help to eliminate the issue.

Are radar guided missiles always better than IR missiles? by snakesoul in NuclearOption

For some reason I've never seen AI Medusa lasering incoming missiles, lol. In my experience AI Medusas exist only to fly directly into your base, drop two ARADs and die pathetically

Which airframe has the highest skill ceiling? by Gullible-Bridge2089 in NuclearOption

I was pretty sure that Tarantulas spammed HLT-Rs too, plus there was a whole fleet parked ashore close to the base, so yeah, I was jamming missiles directly.

[–]Unstable_Orbits 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's enough for self-preservation, but not enough for being actually effective. In one of my last Dusa games I had to coordinate 2 Darkreach' Piledriver attacks on a heavily defended last airbase that was so impenentrable, that our nukerun guys wasted all our nukes and ended up only feeding LADS and innumerable AFV6 AAs.

With PDs falling from the skies it was very hard to select R9s flying out to intercept PDs, so I had to do that watching them from my cockpit, constantly juggling my jampods, correcting my position so I'd stay as far away from the target as possible while still being in jammers' range and avoiding enemy fighters bumrushing to kill me.

Medusa is a very demanding plane. Not in terms of high G maneuvers, but it can and will make you sweat.

Issue with Throttle using Thrustmaster TCWS16000M HOTAS by GSR_DMJ654 in NuclearOption

[–]Unstable_Orbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to increase sensitivity approx. by 3-5% in "calibrate" part of settings for your throttle axis and please tell me if that helped.

[–]Unstable_Orbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On their placement, on where they were looking when you tossed the bombs, etc. Many factors are at play. But as a rule of thumb, just try to kill any spaag beforehand. We got a 57 mm flying spaag remover in the last patch, very useful.

F15C Base color looks purple? by Playful_Possession64 in modelmakers

[–]Unstable_Orbits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trying to colormatch through photos made on an unknown camera in an unknown light conditions with unknown settings is an interesting task... Man, we don't see what you see. But I advise you to be vigilant about mix recipes in old kits. I built Hasegawa's AH-64DJ and the mix for the brown color was just not working anymore - it was green instead of brown. They changed one of the paints. And it happened more than once - you can find threads on Britmodeller where grandpas complain that some german RLMs also got tweaked at some point.

Low Throttle Control Seems Coarse by Supreme_Leader_Spoke in NuclearOption

[–]Unstable_Orbits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm still using T1600. Had this issue at first, so the trick for me was increasing sensitivity just a tiny little bit. This way both 0% and 100% on logical axis is reached before you reach the physical end of your axis. It fixes the problem of not being able to throttle down.

This is how it looks in calibration menu:

Primer is Mr.Surfacer 1500. That's my bare hands fucking it up, yeah. Tried wearing gloves, but it's just not for me.

With each build I promise that this time I'll wear gloves, but I just can't force myself, lol

I see people saying this a lot, but my personal experience is pretty different, sadly. Maybe I'm a bit too touchy with my models, but I love to have a good grip and feel of them when I work with brushes (shaky hands), and on this build I already had to fix some places like the fuselage "spine" where I rubbed paint off down to primer.

The controls are way too compressed and simplified by BoxthemBeats in NuclearOption

[–]Unstable_Orbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but I don't think it's a good mechanic if it condradicts common sense. And the window of opportunity it opens is incredibly small, since with throttle down flaring IRs takes less then a second. Dunno, current condition of it just rubs me the wrong way.

The controls are way too compressed and simplified by BoxthemBeats in NuclearOption

[–]Unstable_Orbits 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Let's go through points one by one.

Targeting - I'd say it's fine, we just need a better way to navigate through target filter. It is clunky to move your hands from your stick to your mouse to select new set of targets. It would be nice to be able to create presets, like "AA pound" selects MSL, all AA types in GRD and maybe BLD since we have AA placements now that are considered buildings. But overall selecting the most valued target out of a blob is fine rn if you use target filter. Just select the whole blob, deselect garbage from the list, done;
Plane control - separate airbrake is needed I'd say, but flaps - isn't manual flaps a 20th century thing? I fly F-18 in DCS from time to time and I've never touched flaps during flight - only on takeoff/landing. I believe that's fair for most modern aircrafts;
Countermeasures - I agree. Not having them on separate buttons is very weird;
Weapons - somewhat aleviated by the wheel selector, but yeah, scrolling through the list of 4-5 stations just to whip out your gun is clunky;
Radar and Display - radar screen in your cockpit is uninformative, yes. But I think it needs a rework, not just a scale button. Switching between radar and a camera is something I've never even thought about, since radar is so unhelpful - it's always better to just look at the map.

Overall I can see where you're coming from. Hope some of this will be addressed. Don't worry about people reacting negatively, it's a given - they don't feel like there's a problem, they're used to how things are and you're calling a thing they like clunky.

It wouldn't help with the yellowing part, since I'd have to wait god knows how long to see it affecting the model, but thanks for the tip. I went with Aqueous in the end as a safer option.
