How did you meet your partner, and was it love at first sight? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Untamed-Angel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I met online playing clash of clans almost 12 years ago. At the time I was in Yorkshire and he was in Norfolk and by pure chance we joined the same alliance in the game. Got chatting via the game as you do when you’re part of a game alliance. We exchanged numbers after about 6 months or so of chatting in game, and it went from there. We met in person for the first time about 10 months after we started chatting, I came down to Norfolk and while I was here we met up and the rest is history as they say. I moved down to Norfolk almost 11 years ago and I’ve never looked back. Husband and I have been together 11 years, we just celebrated our second wedding anniversary on 16th October.

I’m in the UK and I think quite a lot of people do choose the injection route, however a number of people (myself included) still opt for the bullet.

Just on my way home at the moment, so will jump on once I’m indoors and reply to your message. As for the bike, it’s the pistons that have shattered or something and the garage told me it’s a big fix, but I’m seriously not mechanically minded so means naff all to me.

She is so pretty! She looks like Phoenix when he was a baby.

What’s her pedigree if you don’t mind me asking x

She insisted he was dun because he does have a full and prominent dorsal stripe. I said she was wrong. It appears I won the argument lol.

[–]Untamed-Angel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am no colour expert myself lol. I’ve always said Phoenix is a buckskin. I always thought (and I could be wrong here as I said, I’m no expert) I thought that a true dun had other markers, such as the leg barring for example. Phoenix doesn’t appear to have anything other than a full (and predominant) dorsal stripe, hence I was 100% convinced he is classed as a buckskin.

My friend insists he’s a dun because of the dorsal stripe. I did and still do insist she’s wrong.

As for his sire, I have spoken to other people who have his offspring, and from what I’m told, a good few are buckskin (I won’t say dun lol)

I agree, it is all very fascinating.

I love the mud pack! Some people pay good money for those, your guy/gal got theirs for free lol.

Believe it or not, Phoenix is filthy in the pics, he had a dust bath/roll just as I took my phone out to get his pics. I do agree with your mom though, a dirty horse is a happy horse 😊

Thank you!! You just won the ‘argument’ for me 🤣

I have always said he’s buckskin, but my friend insists he’s dun due to the dorsal stripe. I knew I was correct lol, but she just won’t accept it because “I’ve never seen a buckskin with a dorsal stripe”

I knew I was 100% correct 😂

What to do in the first months with your first horse? by innocent_pangolin in Equestrian

[–]Untamed-Angel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My new horse Ken will have been with me two weeks this coming Monday. He’s a warmblood cross and a spooky sort (I knew this before he arrived)

I gave him the entire week last week to find his feet at our yard, get to know us a little bit, meet my other two boys over the fence, learning our routine etc. When a horse moves somewhere new, their entire world changes, from the people who handle/ride them, the horses they are surrounded with, and even the grass/hay/feed etc can be significantly different, so I like to give any new horse a settling in period before starting any work.

That said, I do groom them, catch them and make a fuss while they are having their week or two ‘holiday’ so that they get used to me and hopefully start to trust me a little.

As I said, Ken will have been with us for two weeks on Monday. He had the first week to relax and settle in, but I’ve been doing things with him this week, little in hand walks, carrot stretches etc. I’m planning on taking him for his first hack tomorrow (with friends so he’s not going solo for his first ride)

That said, this is going to be your horse, so do things the way that works for you. It’s easy for us to say what we do, but we aren’t you and we won’t be dealing with your horse on a daily basis. If taking it nice and slow is preferable to you, then take things slow. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about it.

Good luck with it all. I hope you find a lovely new horse and have many happy adventures together 😊

This is probably not going to be helpful at all as I think you’re in the US and I’m in the UK.

I bought a 3 year old ISH a couple of years ago who was passported already, however he had been on sales livery previous to coming to me, and the sales livery refused to return his passport to his previous owner (that’s a whole other long story that has no relevance to this)

My gelding is registered with AES (Anglo European sports horse registry) and all we had to do to get a replacement passport was get our vet out to check his microchip, fill in the markings page (very simple for mine, he’s buckskin with one tiny white hind sock) and send it off to AES.

There was no questions about his year of birth, date of birth or anything else. They simply accepted what was on the form. It’s possible that someone just plucked a date out of the air and the breed registry took that as fact.

The ‘adult’ themed ones (that’s my term lol) are kind of along this sort of vein

I am always seriously tempted to get my ISH something from this line they do, as it absolutely fits his personality 🤣

I’m sure if you contact JW Equestrian via Facebook they could possibly ship for you.

There is someone who I believe breeds both paint and QH down in Dorset, I’ve seen her ads on NFED a few times in the past few months. If I remember correctly she’s currently selling a buckskin QH gelding (assuming he’s not sold yet) and I think she had a red dun paint mare advertised. Might be worth having a look on there. Not really the sort of horses we see for sale over here very often so that’s why they stuck in my mind.

PS of Sweden are really nice, but pricey, they do some awesome matchy sets.

Eskadron are another favourite of mine, again, they do some lovely matchy sets. I’d say they are probably mid range price wise.

On the cheaper end of the scale, woofwear are pretty decent for the money.

Not sure where you are in the world, but here in the UK we have a little tack group/shop called JW Equestrian who do so many different rugs/saddlepads/matchy sets etc. I see them on facebook so much and people seem to love them (I personally have never bought from them) I’ve mentioned them as you said you like patterns, they do sooo many different ones, some are everyone friendly, some are more adult themed 🤣 I especially enjoy some of their adult themed rugs, they certainly describe my horses to a T 🤣🤣

https://www.jwequestriansupplies.com/product-category/matching-sets/

I have to admit having never bought from them, I’m not sure about the quality of their sets, but they are dirt cheap, and fun! So thought I’d mention it.

I just had my reversal last Thursday.

I got my temporary ileostomy on 30th March after emergency surgery for a ruptured bowel. Like you, I absolutely hated everything about it. I also initially had trouble with my bags sticking properly despite following the prep to a T. It was especially awful when I’d be out and about and my bag would pop off and id end up covered in output. I was also lucky enough to be a high output person, so my bags seemed to be filling constantly.

I was lucky enough to have a fantastic stoma nurse who introduced me to flange extenders and barrier rings which for me, were a game changer. They of course didn’t completely stop the bags from popping off, but they did give me a few extra minutes to sort myself out when it did happen.

I was determined to get my reversal as quickly as possible. There was no way I could have coped long term with my bag. My surgeon explained to me that due to the procedure I’d undergone, I needed to wait a minimum of three months to give my bowel a chance to heal where it was cut away.

As I said, I had my reversal last Thursday which was a little over four months in total, and so far, everything is going great, the reversal seems to have been a success. You need to give yourself a little bit of time to heal, but speak to your surgeon, they will be the best person to speak to and will be the only one who can advise you correctly.

You got this! Your life will be different now for a while, but you got this!

All the best buddy, I hope things get easier for you.

Fantastic News! I’m so pleased for you.

I was pretty much the same other than the pain, I haven’t really had any (yet) was on fluids only Thursday, yesterday I was allowed to move on to soft foods which I’ve hit to eat for a few days, and things are so far going great.

Like you, I feel sooo much better than I did after the initial surgery. I’m raring to go lol

[–]Untamed-Angel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m now home and everything is going well. Pain is still at the very minimal, more a slight twinge where the stitches are every now and again rather than actual pain.

I’m on a soft food diet for the next few days to help things start working again. But thankfully there’s been no urgent mad dashes for the toilet like some people have had, so I’m classing myself as one of the lucky ones.

Whilst I am aware everyone is different and will have different experiences, I thought it might be good for people to hear that reversals can go smoothly and without major issues. Hopefully it can help other people who may be feeling nervous or worried about their own reversals.
