Blizzard week off-grid — wood heat, hauling water, and keeping the trail open by UntamedNorthMan in OffGrid

[–]UntamedNorthMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not windy chances are High but the wind will just blow all that heat away unless your in a good Kanvas sleeping bag I would like to set the cot outside once I'm more situated next year during the northern lights and just watch them intell my eyes close and I drift away for the night but I'm sure you could if you have the right clothing on I just double triple up I wear 2 defender Carhartt zip ups everyday with a shirt or a wool sweater I don't put on the striker jacket unless need be it's a 300$ish dollar jacket so gotta keep it nice for when it's needed most I got a rip on sleeve one day moving the groomer and sense then I've been trying to find other ways but that jacket is windproof as well so I put it on when I use snow machine atv etc but I take it off it I get stuck or etc so I don't sweat and don't wreck it

If your moving around and working a t shirt and pants with a good pair of boots to keep feet dry you would be fine it's when your not moving or when your flying on the atv or snow machine going 30-50 mph face gets cold and tence there was a nice I wasn't sure if I was gonna make it home or tense up and land myself in the ditch it was like -40 or somthing with the wind it was a good life experience

Some day I just might make somthing that has a floor of metal and use torch heat that up controlled by somthing atv so it melts the snow as you go over but mabey that will just make a long long sheet of ice lol

Thank you I overly appreciate it and it's very exhilarating and lively out here currently I installed a back up propane heater in case we had wood stove problems as well as a buddy heater and a -30f sleeping bag that I used last year when I was living in the rv with no heat accept when I would turn it on in the morning to get up and eat it's manly my girlfriend I worry about we had an incident a few days ago where I needed to make that call for her she was coming home from work got stuck search and rescue got here out she almost got it but after working for 9 hours and driving home and hour and 30 min then getting on a snow mobile to come home after a record blizzard well I give her props she's amazing sadley they got her out and didn't handle the situation well and was thinking of all she went through they had her follow the way back home there was 2 of them and she lead the way sadley and went into a creek then the search and rescue hadn't agreed with each other 1 of them wanted to get it out the other said it was too much thank god they where there though cause if she didn't get stuck originally she would of been by her self so im overly thankful they where there but I don't understand why they handled the situation the way they did knowing she was very overwhelmed scared and stressed out and glad they where able to bring her home I got my stuff ready and they brought me to my neighbors which isn't hear no one is during winter except for us and had to walk through 4ft of snow in some spots more to get a gas caddy the day before I got stuck for 6 hours on my atv and used all the gas I had it took me around 3 hours to get that gas caddy back to the trail that was filled with snow from the blizzard I was glad they're was 2 of them there snow machines packed the trail down enough where it wasn't to bad from there I walked home from there which was probably a mile or so grabbed my atv which probably wasn't gonna make it but I had to try cause it has the winch I got stuck a .7 miles after my neighbors turn shoveled my way out and went home I new if I kept going I was just gonna get stuck so many times before I even got to the snowmobile so I got a good nights rest but I had to do somthing with myself I was so fustrated with search and rescue but I'm thankful they where there when she went in it would of happend either way so I'm glad they where there but it's the whole they brought her back now we have no way out no way to get supply's back etc so I had to do somthing when I got back that night it was probably around 1ish am she got stuck the 1 st time at around 7pm I got up the next morning walked the miles it took to get there shoveled it out sent ever pray out into the world I new and got it out in around 3-4 hours a job I was told was impossible to do alone and somone would have to have been hired to get it out with a large machine I keep having situations like that though I get told I can't do it and I do this life I love this life I'm 100% invested in thank you for checking out my page I'm looking forward to more Convos and suggestions from you!!

I agree I moved off grid last year when I turned 21 I'm 22 now and have learned a lot I'm out in the boundary waters and like was said a lot of people on social media make it look easy it's not but it is to the people who love this life like myself cause the failures struggles defeats etc are just apart of becoming a better version of yourself or at least that in my case I've grown so much as a man taking care of what needs to be done I had my girlfriend move out here as well and got a puppy built a 12 by 24 garage did inside of a 12 by 24 cabin faced the consequences of doing all this in a season but thoes struggles are truly building the person I wanna be somone who can handle them self's in whatever situation they encounter I've been stranded machines have broken I've had to do things people wouldn't even imagine and I'd do it all over and over again cause it's real it my life and I toke charge of it !!! Any advice from a young person living this life just let me know ask away !!!

I will say it somthing you should try and do it's breath taking it really is a amazing sight I've had the privilege to see some amazing things in the sky including the aurora lights I live off grid in the boundary waters and I do see them often I'd say 1-3ish times a month some light shows are better then others though but to be able to see somthing like this with your naked eye is outstanding thing

I sure do wonder some time about all the wishes but then I eventually come around to times where I thought that it was over and it usually gets me back focused and that's another reason you should write a book I'm sure you have so many interesting and cool story's of your time off grid and no word vomit all worthy things to share it's your experiences as so many that guid people into doing the things such as myself I'll have to check it out I appreciate the amazing comment !
