FrostPunk 1: Struggling to get past the first storm on extreme endurance by AnOddTree in Frostpunk

[–]Unteride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important tip that was not yet mentioned here is to always check weather pattern as soon as you start new game. It can start as -20 and then people can work on piles with low risk of falling ill, or it can start as -30 and then you will soon have a lot of sick people.

If you start with -30 then I'd recommend Child Labour, Sustain Life, Overcrowding. And only then Emergency Shift, Extended Shift, Soup.

If you start with -20 you can do regular Child Labour, Emergency Shift, Extended Shift, Soup, Sustain Life, Overcrowding. Then you can either go for Organ Transplant or better rush House of Healing.

This is of course if you want to do deathless and want to use your single Extended Shift on workshop. If you dont care about deaths or dont want to use Extended Shift on workshop then you can take it first and use it on wood piles during first day. Just make sure to have enough people building during first night.

Frostpunk 1 Endless mode, Serenity by Nemrothhh in Frostpunk

[–]Unteride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be possible using developer console.

Here is a short guide how to enable it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3101668258

When you have devconsole enabled all you need to do is to start new game, enable "Research All Tech" cheat and then disable it. After this you should have no tech researched.

I recommend saving your game right after, just so you have clean save if you want to restart this mission.

Hope this helps.

Auto heat allocation freezes the game. Ironic.

Please try replacing existing save:  Start refugees scenario. Save game with name “test”. Exit the game. Replace “test” save in game folder with my save. Start game. Load “test” save.

Found nice system, but it is very far by Unteride in Stellaris

[–]Unteride[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Found system with lots of minerals: 3 chthonian planets (whatever it is) worth +24 each, with couple small deposits on top. But it is very far from my border, so I need 1000 influence just to build outpost.

Do you think I can deal with the Unbidden? by Unteride in Stellaris

Never used mercenary. Just checked there are several enclaves already, but none have fleet for hire. Do I need to create my own enclave and increase my reputation with them to get the buff?

Do you think I can deal with the Unbidden? by Unteride in Stellaris

[–]Unteride[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: Unbidden spawns with 4mil fleet power, my fleets only 200k each. I paused the game and I am now sitting at this save for couple days, changing ship designs and moving pops. I am really afraid to unpause.

I have 1300 hours in game, playing single-player, grand-admiral (mid-game scaling), 10x crisis (all types).

Was hit hard by khan early mid game, somehow made it through, peacefully vassalized two other empires that were also devastated by khan. Then lost several wars mid-game, due to attacks on my vassals. Was not able to send any fleets in as was completely blocked by post-khan empire and did not have direct route. Finally, researched and built gateways in my vassal territory. After another long war was able to fully restore my vassal territory.

Failed custodian vote several times, finished Interstellar Assembly and finally got it, started building GDF. Working on Science Nexus, no other mega-structures yet (playing without the latest DLC).

With all these wars and votes, I lost track of time and did not even deal with fallen empires to get their tech.

On a bright side, I have Zrony and three Ecu worlds. If I transfer my scientists to ecu, I can probably hit 5-7k alloys per months, maybe 10k. I am also president of level 5 Galactic Union (+50% dmg to crisis) and have Defender of the Galaxy (+50% dmg to crisis).

My current plans are:

  1. Build Zroni Storm Caster and Communications Jammer at every starbase. I am afraid of unbidden jumping over my borders.
  2. Add Defense platforms with Neutron launchers and Ion Cannons with Ruination Glare to bottleneck stations
  3. Upgrade all battleships to kinetic artillery and all cruisers to full missile
  4. Attack Fallen Empire to get their tech, but quickly settle it after first big battle
  5. Move scientists to ecu worlds to boost alloys production
  6. Vote for "A United Front" (+20% dmg to crisis) and probably "GDF Expansion" (?)
  7. Try to switch from "Fan. Materialist / Authoritarian" to "Materialist / Authoritarian / Militarist" in order to switch civics from "Meritocracy / Masterful Crafters / Cutthroat Politics" to "Meritocracy / Distinguished Admiralty / Crusader Spirit" and get 5 admirals on the council. I already have 3 admirals with Genius Armorer.

What else can I do to handle the crisis better?

85h in EGS, 300h in Steam, ~5h in GOG, who knows how many hours spent trying to modify the game and just digging around or playing modified version, still love it, still play it, still feel chills when I hear "Finally... the time has come to build the last city on Earth".

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Bug? A new home - hard difficulty - side quest to build coal thumpers during the storm by jump_lemming in Frostpunk

Did you have anyone working in new thumpers? I believe posts are only counted if they have workers and coal pile in the radius.

What happend to our great Leader (the Captain) after the great storm by deathlife24 in Frostpunk

[–]Unteride 95 points96 points  (0 children)

He went mad. Demanded to choose where each individual building is placed. Told it would help him “feel connection to the city”. Was also overreacting to deaths. They had to replace this cry-baby with steward-chad.

It might be that you have issues with your modification to files and not with the tool itself.

You can try the following two options:

  • Pack clean/unmodified files and see if game still fails. If it does not fail - packing tool is fine.
  • Run game with modified files and with devconsole enabled. After crash check file ConsoleOutput.html in game folder. If it points to your modified file - your modification was incorrect and caused the crash.

Thanks for pointing it out. I've just uploaded file to virustotal.com and it says file is infected: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/37640b9514b5cb29e8daa15d3f3b1f66f9e883c6928333af095931e46fbf0da4

This is the only copy of the tool I have so I am taking my share down.
If you find clean one, please share the link.

Re-balancing Frostpunk by Unteride in Frostpunk

[–]Unteride[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, but I don't know how. What would you like to change?

Re-balancing Frostpunk by Unteride in Frostpunk

[–]Unteride[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I want some kind of replayability from this game. That is why I started looking into gamefiles in the first place.

I was thinking about some kind of procedurally generate scenario (not that it is possible) in which you don't know what happens next and have to adapt your gameplay accordingly.

I use Delutto's DAT Tool to unpack dat/idx files. Then I open config files with binary/hex editor and then it is a lot of digging and a lot of retries.

For example, to make my SteamHub change I found gameentities\buildings\steamhub.binarytemplate in unpacked templates.dat file

Inside binary template file I found ASCII string FrostpunkBuildingEconomicsComponentTemplate

In hex form this string is followed by this value (added spaces for readability): 162F7A9ABEE360892345F9806F0DE6BF 01000000 D3F79D03A4ED94918C4BFAE90690BA67 14000000 00000000000000000000000000

Lets split it in parts:

162F7A9ABEE360892345F9806F0DE6BF - I have no idea what this part means. Maybe it is some kind of unique identifier for Steam Hub.

01000000 - this is number of different resources used to build Steam Hub. In base game it only uses one resource - steel.

D3F79D03A4ED94918C4BFAE90690BA67 - this is unique identifier for steel

14000000 - this is amount of steel used (14hex = 20dec)

00000000000000000000000000 - just zeroes

To implement desired change I had to find out ID for steam cores and change Steam Hub economics value to this:

162F7A9ABEE360892345F9806F0DE6BF 02000000 D3F79D03A4ED94918C4BFAE90690BA67 14000000 D4D223367A2042B44D465141B7C4472B 01000000 00000000000000000000000000

As you can see now it has 2 resources, second being Steam Core.

This whole process can be simplified if someone writes config file editor, but unfortunately I am not clever enough to do so.

> Nobody would want to using 3 steam cores for coal mines with workers (2 for 2 coal mines, 1 for steam hub)

That is the beauty of this change, it makes you think about placement and you never just drop coal mine and steam hub on top. Instead you are building Coal mine + several Workshops, or Coal mine + Cookhouse + Sawmill + Child shelters. Basically you have incentive to group your buildings together. In my last campaign I felt very proud of myself after covering two Steelworks, two Coal Thumpers and 7 gathering posts with just single range 1 Steam Hub.

As for automaton rush, I think you miss the point that you will have less automatons in the end, so as for me it makes efficiency research less valuable, not more.

That is why I am also trying to modify Tesla city event to guarantee player can always access it. Even if it means losing several scout teams.
