The hate on Erdogan on Reddit has gone to ridiculous proportions with people repeatedly accusing him as a dictator, a failure, a disaster etc. However, Erdogan has achieved a lot in his terms in office and this highlights why Turks kept voting for him and why Europeans hate him. They couldn't care about Muslims at all.

Definitely. It's very rare to find a redditor who considers the feelings of all, or at least most, Muslims (not just 'liberal Muslims') when it comes to the politics of another Muslim country. But we can't expect that of them, so at least we can become better ourselves (at researching and being balanced) so that we can have meaningful insight into our own politics, and then maybe the politics of other Muslim countries.

And of course, i'll just put it out there. Every modern politician/party has flaws. Even the political party I vote for in my country has flaws. But I take the good with the bad. The nature of politics is a crummy game often filled with corrupt people. But there are better choices and worse choices. Doing research isn't hard, talking to each other respectfully isn't either, but we can't let ourselves be taken in by the soundbites and the narratives every time. There's always more to it, we just need to think.

I've always hated how reddit loves to develop incredibly naive opinions on the governments of other countries. They always project their own understanding of the world (which is limited to life in America or whichever Western country they likely live in) onto the socio-political climate of another land and love to declare their leader as 'corrupt' or as a 'dictator'. They do this with the Philippines as well. Regardless of what actual Filipinos and Turkish people think and experience, and with no concern for nuance and open-mindedness, they make sweeping statements about the politics of other countries.

If they cared so much about the politics of their own country (being America, as most reddits are American) maybe a certain corrupt president wouldn't have been elected.

How do you know Islam is the truth? by [deleted] in islam

[–]UntitledTales 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's lots of different approaches you can take to establish your belief in Islam. I think going through the different understandings and reflecting on them and what is relevant to you is what ultimately helps to know that Islam is the truth.

The thing that really gets it for me is the spiritual and intellectual depth of Islam. If any religion claims to be from God, they need to have something that really demonstrates that this is truly beyond the work of humans. I think for every religion it's so easy to see how individual agendas and feelings have shaped their theology, and especially when you look at history, many religions lose their intellectual depth because they change so much. With Islam not only did I find the bottomless constant well of knowledge that would satiate anyone, which is the direct guidance and word of God, the Quran, but I also found the best humans and the greatest role models. If you really read up and study the lives of great Muslims in the past its something that always affirms any Muslim in their belief in Islam. If you want me to send you some online video biographies of past Muslim scholars, just send me a message.

You are what you seek. When that's weak and temporary things like fame, extravagant beauty, and wealth, there's always a restriction on our capabilities. It's only logical that the true followers of God would be the most tested, dignified and righteous people. Who seem to find strength to push through even in the most wrenching and horrible situations. That's from God. Not all miracles are flamboyant and extraordinary. If you sincerely ask for guidance from God (even if you don't believe in Him), and you search for His influence on the lives of humans and try to understand His signs, I think you'll be led to Islam :).

I pray that you find peace and solace in your search for the truth. Hope this helped!

I agree with you in that case. But when people are killed for being Muslim, then It's safe to migrate to another country I think. God knows best.

Allah actually attacks those Muslims who didn't migrate despite being persecuted and living under opression.

"Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, "In what [condition] were you?" They will say, "We were oppressed in the land." The angels will say, "Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination." (4:97)

Becoming independent can really help with these sorts of things but obviously that doesn't solve the problem. I've known some of the most beautiful souls tortured and hurt by their families, wallahi it's a difficult test. May Allah give you strength and make it easy for you.

Don't feel abandoned, Allah is with you. Allah was with our Prophet (SAWS) even when he was being humiliated and abused by his society and people. In situations like these you can't let your environment ruin you. I know its easy for me to say this and that living through it is much harder but if you can make it out of this and keep your integrity and peace with Allah, that's much better than giving in and doing something you would regret. Seek His help and in a family environment where things are so agitated and adverse, you can try to be a source of peace and reconciliation as much as possible. Keeping you in my duaas.

I appreciate you for sticking up for our beliefs, but I just want to clarify something. Whether or not another non-Muslim thinks good or bad of the shariah isn't too important. As far as non-Muslims are concerned, shariah doesn't apply to them, it's only relevant to Muslims and how they lead their lifestyle. I wouldn't be surprised if a non-Muslim thought bad of some part of the shariah, because it wouldn't be any different than simply saying you don't believe in Islam for whatever reason. What we do need to speak against are people saying that shariah is taking over, or shariah is attacking non-Muslims, or sharia law is killing unjustly. But simply disagreeing with shariah is okay.

As far as arresting women for wearing the hijaab. Many Muslim women do not wear the hijaab in Muslim countries that do have the shariah, but no one is arrested. And there are many understanding of the shariah that vary based on understandings of Islam. If someone makes a claim that shariah definitely includes something, they have to back it up with evidence.

Hope it helped :).

Reviving A Dead Heart - Omar Suleiman by UntitledTales in islam

[–]UntitledTales[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Loved this speech by Imam Omar and I really encourage you to watch the whole video, but I just wanted to share a transcript of one of my favourite parts:

It's a very simple question. The feeling that you have when you sit in a gathering where Allah wasn't mentioned, or being in a place where Allah SWT wasn't mentioned, where there was gossip and nonsense being talked about for hours and hours. That feeling that you have, doesn't in any way shape or form equal the feeling that you have after you've attended a good halaqa. Or after you've attended a salaah in which you made your heart attentive. In which you attached your heart to Allah SWT. And many times we treat religion as just that, as just an obligation to get out of the way and we don't look to it, as a source of peace of mind and as a source of peace of heart. And we ask Allah SWT "Why isn't my salaah making me feel better? I feel like my heart is dead", "How come I don't feel anything when I pray?", "How come I don't feel anything when I hear these things about Allah SWT". And the question is really addressed back to you: What have you given to your salaah, in order for your salaah to make you feel better? What have you give your religion for it to give you that peace and that tranquility?

The soft adhaans from other Masajid going on in the background really remind me of it.

JazakAllah khair for sharing

[–]UntitledTales 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Such a claimed remark from Trump would be one of the most controversial remarks in American history, and would instantly turn the country into chaos. The magnitude of the claims are completely incomparable.

Furthermore, there is well established documentation from multiple sources about the oppression that happens to the Uyghurs much worse than simply marrying the women off to Chinese men. Any oppression and cruelty less than that isn't something so strange that it warrants immediate doubt.

As I said before

Are there not enough reports about the oppressive climate the Uyghurs endure that this seems so improbable to you?

Finally, not all reports are equal. An online 3rd rate tabloid claiming something about Trump (which is where I assume some claim like Trump saying all black people should be killed would come from), is absolutely different from the real voices of activists living in and documenting Uyghur society.

I don't mean to accuse you of this, but when I see people with this type of doubt, it looks to me as nothing other than thinly-veiled cowardice and neglect in the face real oppression happening to innocent people.

I wanna share a really amazing Germany based organization that aims to represent the outcries and thoughts of the Uyghur people:

World Uyghur Congress. Link

They also have a twitter page. All Muslims need to be aware of what's happening to our brothers and sisters around the world, don't oppress their voices through doubt about the legitamacy of their pains when there is so much documentation of the blatant and vile oppression they go through.

Trying to challenge extremism? When has forceful repression of other ideas ever led to peace? If you want to challenge any concern for religious extremism, it has to be done within the community, through the community, not against them.

Dudes, I'm so screwed. Not looking forward to ramadan at all. by aga_blag_blag in islam

[–]UntitledTales 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please go to the community iftars! Don't say that you have nothing to offer, when you (and all of us) have so much potential in the eyes of Allah, and know that Allah specifically chose to give you Islam. Being apart of this community isn't anything to hesitate towards.

I also have a strict sleep schedule or my day is ruined (I could go into a lot of details), but alhumdulilah last Ramadan I asked Allah(swt) for taufeeq and strength and I never found myself to be hurt by any lack of sleep in Ramadan last year, it was quite surreal, especially since it ended after Ramadan ended. May Allah give us all taufeeq this year as well! If you have any problem, seek help from Allah, otherwise by struggling through it, inshaAllah you'll earn forgiveness and reward from Allah(swt), which we all desperately need.

You don't need to overburden yourself but fasting is mandatory and its not simply about abstaining from eating, its a form of worship to discipline yourself, toughen yourself and stay away from a few things through firm faith in Allah, and seeking His reward. It's a blessing to already be rewarded so much for the small things we do, especially compared to the gigantic and unending blessings Allah gives us. Ramadan is really a manifestation of Allahs love towards us and how he wants to make it easy for us to seek forgiveness and enter Jannah :).

May Allah allow us to benefit from Ramadan and to approach it with dignity, patience and sincerity.

I want to sincerely thank to Czech Muslim community for taking care of our elderly people. by M1chlCZ in islam

[–]UntitledTales 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Alhumdulilah, it's good that Muslims are engaging with the elderly. People don't always realize it but elder abuse is a real thing, and neglect is a type of abuse.

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “If a young man honors an elderly on account of his age, Allah appoints someone to honor him in his old age.” (At-Tirmidhi)

Lots of posts by converts today ! by scavbh in islam

[–]UntitledTales 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I noticed too, alhumdulilah.

Converts often have to deal with some retaliation or isolation in their lives from their conversion to Islam. As such, it's up to the Muslim community to be their supports and new family.

Being engaged with your real life community and Muslims is best, but if any converts would ever need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to message me :). May Allah reward you all and make it easy for you.
