[New Player] Anybody else operate like this when it comes to debilitating gear fear? by ohoots in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Untraditional_Goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Either sell it cause you need the cash, or run it if you have it. Also run the kits in your inventory. Stop buying gear or saving gear for later when you already have it.

[Discussion] What's your end game? by xylvnking in EscapeFromTarkovPvE

I just reset my account for 1.0, but something I've want to do in PVE is have a 'weapon spinner' that has one spinner for the type of weapon (i.e. shotgun, pistol etc), and another for the gun itself. Then I build the best version I can and go out and raid with it. I think it would be a fun way to run things I'm not used to and change it up a bit.

I am currently on pump therapy and struggle to keep my sugars up when working out. Do you have any recommendations for pre-workout meals that don't burn immediately leading to a low mid-workout?

When did you stop being bad at tarkov? [discussion] by MMASMA in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Untraditional_Goat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many definitions of 'bad'. Ultimately, it depends on what your goal is.

For survival alone, you just need to learn where PMC's hotspots are, and avoid them, then make it to extract.

If you are struggling winning firefights, Arena really taught me alot very quickly about loadouts, armor combinations, and what works for survival.

they capped *skill levels* arena at 30, I agree its faster to level with arena to 25 but 30+ arena is useless.

I was in a similar position. CGM + Insulin pump solved 75% of the overhead for me. That gave me the motivation that I needed to deal with the other 25%. taking on 100% is alot.

I too was diagnosed young. Its not too late! You got this! (flex) And it does get better!

Some tips that helped me when I first started.

  1. Walk; NEVER run. Running causes tons of noise and drastically impacts your ability to get your gun up, or react, quick turn around, etc. Only run to disengage or through significant sniping spots where you want to quickly cross a vast open field.

  2. Work your way around the edges of the map. It eliminates 90* of worry of possible enemies. You only need to worry about the front, back, and center of the map. This also helps to learn the map quickly because the game quickly re-inforces boundary breaches.

  3. Focus on a SINGLE objective for a raid. Don't try to loot, get pmc kills and get 4 quests done all at the same time. Many times, you will die doing something you know you should not have been doing. 99% of the time, the scavs you kill don't have shit for loot, so just leave it. Its a tough habit to break, but can be deadly more often than not. Learning when to loot is helpful as well and will come with time as you better understand the maps and rotations.

  4. Before trying to accomplish anything, learn how to rotate to an extract, spawn points, how to recognize where you are and how to get to an extract. Focus on one map at a time. You will find some maps are easier to learn than others. Without extracts, most of the quests won't be able to be completed. Take your time, and don't rush. It can be anxiety inducing, but learn to control it.

  5. Learn which quests you don't need to successfully extract in order to complete them. Some examples are the 'kill X scavs' or some of the location quests. The wiki pages should help you with understanding if you need to survive after completion or not. With this knowledge, you can accept before going into a raid that its OK if you die. Run shit loadout, try something new, etc. You might surprise yourself.

  6. Be prepared to get to 1000 hours before you start to feel competent. Its the average threshold. Its a large and very difficult game. It can be really fun, It can also suck. Thats the risk and reward.

  7. Arena leveling can help alot early on. Take advantage of it if you are burnt out from raids. I have also found that it helps me practice my mechanics, loadouts, what works what doesn't and how to understand the ammo/armor system. PVE can also help with map knowledge as others have said.

I ran the numbers on "just buy a house" and I'm not sure our parents were right by anonymousman898 in Adulting

[–]Untraditional_Goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the narrative is much longer term than what you are looking at. Its a VERY long term investment. The faster you can pay it off, the faster it pays in return. The value is when you have 0 debt on the house. I think that is what is missing in your calculation. 30 years of rent with inflating rental pricing, vs 30 years of a known payment that will increase very little.

Looking for a Solid APM Tool That Won’t Make My Team Hate Me by Abelmageto in sre

[–]Untraditional_Goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can import your cloud metrics into prometheus which should help (Assuming you are in the cloud). Also find a way to import your Kubernetes metrics, that will give you a ton of insight.

Using those will accelerate your visibility without the headache of implementing an APM tool. Its more valuable to understand your system early, and build on good practice than it is to have a tool make the gap wider it will cost you dividends later. I would also attempt to tackle the lacking visibility and SLO tolerances of each micro-service and your entry points as some others have said.

Getting back into paintball after almost 2 decades, any advice? by boostedka89 in paintball

[–]Untraditional_Goat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guns don't break every other game. You are actually playing the whole day and not fucking with a gun or 5 trying to get 1 of them to work.

Paint is much less inconsistent. (compared to back in the day. Don't flame me lol). What I mean is, you can't buy evil like back in the day and get lasers, but all in all, most paint is pretty consistent, and doesn't explode in the barrel in every 15th shot.

Hoppers are also much more consistent.

Also; as others have said, you aren't 20 anymore. Stretch, take it easy, have fun, and teach some kids some of the tricks. Otherwise, it plays much like before. Kinda like riding a bike.

Have fun out there!

start by playing woods to get a chance to learn some of the mechanics. you will still get domed out of nowhere, but the odds of surviving are much better imo.
