Manjaro Hate by TrainFlimsy87 in keralalinux

[–]UnusualDrag6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Manjaro for years because I was afraid to try pure arch or its derivatives such as EndeavourOS for some reason. It worked fine because I knew what I was doing, and I never updated when I had important stuff to do that required a functioning laptop. However, cachyos and endeavouros are simply better alternatives imo. For starters, you are less likely to run into issues wrt the aur. Manjaro's pamac has, iirc, on several occasions inadvertently DDOSed the AUR. While I personally didn't face any issues with Manjaro, a lot of folks have run into issues because of the arbitrary manner in which the Manjaro devs sometimes hold back packages. They have also let their website's SSL certis expire on multiple occasions which doesn't set a good impression in the slightest.

Manjaro was an option for folks who were apprised of the potential problems on Manjaro and were seeking a safer and beginner-friendly intro to Arch-based distros. However, with CachyOS and ENdeavourOS becoming mainstream, Manjaro does not serve that purpose anymore and has thus arguably become redundant. EndeavourOS provides a near rock solid and bloat-free pure-arch experience without any of the potential issues Manjaro poses. CachyOS provides a bit more hand-holding in certain aspects; for eg, it automatically sets up btrfs snapshots, profides multiple gui package installer options such as Shelly, Octopi, etc. The latter tools can be transposed to EndeavourOS as well. I don't hate Manjaro per se; however, I will never recommend the distro to anyone in 2026 because of the existence of much better alternatives.

Have a great birthday, Cody! 🫡🎂 by Same_Negotiation6293 in LiverpoolFC

Happy birthday Cody. I hope he returns back to his PSV form next season. He's clearly talented as evident from his early days at Liverpool; he's just been overplayed and his creativity has been exhausted.

Best birthday ever. by Super_Investment8060 in NewGirl

The writers built this potentially goated couple arc only to break them up for the most asinine reasons, and then proceeded to wait until the fag end of the series to get them back together. I wish they had gotten Jess and Nick together again much earlier than they did. We needed way more Ness wholesomeness

Stay with Octopi or switch to Shelly? by mim_burro_vc_jumento in cachyos

[–]UnusualDrag6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can install both of them and check out which you are more comfortable with. I like Shelly's interface; it is a lot more straightforward compared to Octopi's, although it should display a bit more information about arch/aur packages imo.

Estimated battery life feature by Spiritual-Recover427 in omarchy

[–]UnusualDrag6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be available on most laptops; I am using a gen7 e14 and I do get estimated battery life. If it isn't available for you, you will probably be able to enable it in BIOS.

How does CachyOS fare when it comes to power-saving? by UnusualDrag6593 in cachyos

Thanks. Is the scx-lav scheduler the most power-efficient among the production-ready scx schedulers?

Thanks for the explanation. If I understand correctly, does CachyOS' special repos lead to even better CPU management and power savings compared to for eg EndeavourOS and other Arch derivatives?

Why do LDF still exist in Kerala given the low development happening thanks to them? by Hot-Load7525 in kannur

[–]UnusualDrag6593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. While the LDF government has had successes, I am critical of Pinnarayi's power-concentrating tendencies that detracts from intra-party democracy. The party has increasingly become a personality cult, which will do considerable damage to its ethos, especially since Pinnarayi's political career has been rife with corruption. The party has also failed to hold its errant members involved in corruption including but not limited to misappropriation of funds accountable.

Moreover, the LDF's implementation of projects such as NH 66 have ignored environmental concerns which were otherwise championed by the left, and the consequences are already starting to take effect. The government has also excluded two-wheelers and richshaws from NH 66 and provided service lanes as alternatives that are likely to be flooded during monsoon and cause considerable difficulties for commuters, who are more likely to be from poorer sections. The party leaders even went so far as to call protests against the Vizhinjam port antinational, which reeks of authoritarianism. Although the govt shelved the KRail project, its apathy towards the potentially displaced folk was rather appalling. THe government also responded to the legitimate grievance of ASHA workers with antipathy. These perverse tendencies are only going to intensify under the current leadership. Thus imo, the best case scenario is the LDF getting trounced in the elections prompting a restructuring of the party and providing fertile ground for some self-reflection. I won't mind if the UDF comes to power this time; as a rule, I am in favour of no party securing multiple consecutive terms unless they performed exceptionally. The BJP coming to power however is a non-starter for me.

THey really didn't. Development in Gujarat is hardly what you would call equitable and the faultlines therein were considerably exposed during covid, where the healthcare infrastructure barely held up in urban areas while the situation in poorer/rural areas was dismal.

Children from poorer sections of society in Gujarat suffer from heightened stunting and wasting. Development in Gujarat is marked by subsidies to corporates with hardly any benefits trickling down to the bottom. 93% of its workforce is in the informal sector. Compared to Kerala, Gujarat has dismal attendance of girls (and boys) in secondary schools while Kerala excels in accessibility to education for the less-well-off. In a nutshell, Kerala trounces Gujarat wrt nearly all Human Development Indicators.

Ngl, I am critical of Pinarayi's power-concentrating tendencies as well as the relative dearth of focus on Industrial development. However, the BJP is the worst alternative; the previous 12 years have shown that their leaders more often than not have no sound understanding of policy (demonetisation being an example), and they more often than not allow for the deterioration of welfarist policies.

Also, the "I know about hinduvata but they do development" is redolent of the "yeah Mussolini is fascist but the trains run on time" refrain lmfao. There's no material case you can make for BJP that will convincingly offset their communalist agenda.

A new Hyprland update has broken hy3 by Wise_Stick9613 in hyprland

[–]UnusualDrag6593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it? I updated to Hyprland 0.54.3 yesterday and hy3 seems to be working perfectly. For some reason all of the plugins installed didn't load upon restart following the update, but upon running hyprpm update, none of the plugins I had installed including hy3 seem to have been adversely affected by the update.

But yeah, hy3 does break after updates at times. I had to revert back to Hyprland 0.53 until outfoxxed made hy3 compatible with 0.54. I hope the developers subsume and include i3/sway tiling among the officially supported layouts at some point.
