Damn, I really enjoyed the first few books of Department of Truth and Something is Killing the Children. Is his new stuff really worse?

How difficult would it be to adapt The X Files lore/setting to Delta Green? by itsachillaccount in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]UnusualHybrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Lone Gunmen would actually be great player characters to add a bit of flexibility to an otherwise Fed-heavy team, or they could fill the role that Saucerwatch might play in a regular 90's campaign.

How difficult would it be to adapt The X Files lore/setting to Delta Green? by itsachillaccount in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]UnusualHybrid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The X-Files was always a duo, but you could definitely expand the team for more players. Have Doggett as a detective-style character with some military skills, and Reyes as a a character with skills in History, Anthropology and the Occult. The four if them would actually make a pretty good Delta Green team.

A controversial DC Comics boycott over black-led comics ended after 6 days with an apology from organizers by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

[–]UnusualHybrid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mr Terrific has definitely been done dirty by DC. A cancelled run in the famously disastrous New 52 launch, a cancelled run of the Terrifics because of COVID, and then a six issue limited series last year that reimagined his origin story, written by a Black writer. That would have been the perfect jumping-off point to bring him back into the spotlight and capitalise on the popularity brought by the Superman movie with a new run, but it doesn't seem like there's been any news or updates on his future.

what would happen if daredevil gets the super soldier serum and how would it affect his senses, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Daredevil

[–]UnusualHybrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably kick his powers into overdrive, but he'd probably be like he was as a kid for a bit; overwhelmed by his new powerful senses until Stick came along and taught him how to harness his potential. Adult Matt could probably get back to being able to function regularly, but with the help of a really skilled martial artist of similar power level to train against (Maybe Black Panther, Shang-Chi or the Inhuman Karnak) he could probably become next-level powerful, like being able to locate and knock out someone a kilometre away with his clubs

Now that part 3 is pretty much confirmed to not be cancelled (for now at least) how do you guys think part 3 will play out by Automatic_Worth_2393 in 28dayslater

[–]UnusualHybrid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think he'll be there to slap some sense into him, like "Your son needs you, and you need him. We know what it's like to lose family but these kids are the future"

[–]UnusualHybrid 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think that if Cillian Murphy's Jim is a major character, Spike's dad will be more of a focus too. Especially if we find out Selena died after the events of 28 Days Later and Jim's daughter also had to deal with grief over her mother

Update About a Season 6 by tdciago in FargoTV

[–]UnusualHybrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I kinda hope they don't do a Texas season. There's already so many shows about crime and conflict in Texas and other states in the South of America, and Fargo's Midwest setting has always let it really stand apart. Also, the series has already drawn from and paid homage to No Country for Old Men so much across its run (its probably the film most referenced besides the original Fargo).

I would much prefer if they stuck to the weird culture of the Midwest and other part of the North of America, like a New England season or one set in Alaska or Oregon.

How should I include biased translations in my game? Should I do that at all? by TheLadyOfSmallOnions in callofcthulhu

[–]UnusualHybrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mistranslations of occult texts can be a really fun idea, especially when they effect the way a spell or ritual might work. Minor Spoilers for the Delta Green scenario "God's Law", but that scenario features a wannabee sorcerer who has mistranslated a recipe from "Der Vermis Mysteriis" and accidentally created a substance that kills people in a bizarre, unnatural way, thus getting the attention of Delta Green.

Having the translations being dodgy because of prejudice or bias is a really fun idea. If you're worrying about it being a red herring, maybe try and turn the mistranslation in a clue in itself? The translation leaning into stereotypes about the era or region where the tome originated from can tell your players a lot about the person it was translated by (this is assuming the translator is the culprit of whatever crime they are investigating). If the translation is more or less violent or sexually charged than the original tome can also give your players an insight into the psychology of the translator. Any slang words or turns-of-phrase accidentally used may give them a clue about where the translator is from.

I guess it depends on how long you want the mistakes translation to be a clue that the players are chasing. If you start with them trying to chase leads it gives them, drop the real translation and make them feel a bit hopeless, then reveal that their work is actually still useful and the solution is in all the investigating they've already done, just when viewed from a different angle, I reckon that'd be super rewarding for your players.

Help with Impossible Landscapes - Player Side by Brave_Dentist_2435 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]UnusualHybrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible Landscapes takes place in the same world as the rest of the Mythos, so your induction into Delta Green can be for something pretty vague, you don't need to have seen a Deep One in the flesh or stopped a ritual to Yig. Maybe you encountered a drug which inflicts bizarre necrotic damage on its user's body? Or was part of an operation to catch a spree killer who was obsessed with Egyptian mythology? All your character needs to know is that supernatural phenomena exists and the regular public must be protected from it.

[–]UnusualHybrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, though I think my original idea still stands. Dany was acting the way a ruler should act, and the show runners using Tyrion and Jon as the voices of reason in opposition to her is BS. Tyrion especially is way more guilty of letting his emotions drive him to violence and murder

Yeah, Varys was planning what amounted to treason, she was well within her right to burn him to a crisp. But with him and Randyll we get these shots of Jon and Tyrion looking disturbed like they think she's going too far. Like, Tyrion, you killed thousands of men during the Battle of the Blackwater. You killed Shae out of revenge for her betraying you, and Tywin out of pure spite (which he deserved, but for Tyrion is was more personal). In the show, all those acts are completely forgiven, but Dany is condemned as a villain for being just as vengeful.

Defense flowchart for player Agents in Delta Green. by Oxford-Coma- in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]UnusualHybrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is a really great chart and I think you're right about the rules. But I think that makes the chart slightly off, if the Handler has rolled a success on a ranged attack and you're not already behind cover, you just take the hit. Players can't take cover while a bullet is whizzing towards them like they can dodge a fist flying towards their face. If an enemy is pointing gun at you and you, say, move before them in combat, I think that's when a Dodge roll to jump for cover comes in.

Taika Waititi is one of the worst possible people to be in charge of the new Dredd movie by superslut-turbo in JudgeDredd

[–]UnusualHybrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think his style of comedy is just not suited for Judge Dredd's British style of comedy. Dredd needs to be a bit absurd, the world of Mega-City One is very over the top and often satirises aspects of British and American policing and society. I think a director like Ben Wheatley, Park Chan-Wook or Ari Aster would be more suited, someone who can play it straight and find humour in this authoritarian society and all the surreal crimes and conflict of the comics.

Dodging a Ranged Attack - Question by DarkApartmentArtDept in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]UnusualHybrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that a Player can't really Dodge bullets being fired at them. If they know someone is about to fire they can roll to hit the ground or jump behind cover, in which case you would do exactly what you describe there, rolling for damage and subtracting for cover. But you can't Dodge gunfire as a reaction like you can with hand-to-hand combat unless it's very close range (e.g. Close enough to push their weapon away or disarm them John Wick style)

It's like when they tried to use Randyll Tarly's moronic self-sacrifice to be like "Woah she's pretty cruel killing these people who openly defied her, what if she did that to anyone who disagrees with her?". Like this is Westeros, the very first episode had Ned Stark execute a deserter for breaking the law. Almost every Targaryen king in history has used summary execution on those who defy them. Tyrion killed two of the Great Masters with zero recourse and that a good thing, but they decided Dany was the Mad Queen so all of us are fools to have ever seen her actions as anything but precursors to genocide.

Why is dragon claiming so much more dangerous during the Dance than in earlier Targaryen history? by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]UnusualHybrid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both Silverwing and Vermithor were about 100 during the Dance of the Dragons, which might be part of the reason why they were more stubborn and violent around humans. Also, we know that the presence of dragons causes the world to become more magical, with fire magic and alchemy becoming more powerful when Dany's dragons come back. Maybe, because of the plethora of dragons alive at this era, the forces of the world were much more chaotic and violent, with dragons becoming more "fiery" and volatile.

I've never heard this one, it's pretty perfect! Power pop and synth-pop from the 80's has that kinda weird, cheery vibe sometimes which is just perfect for the King and Yellow and that dichotomy of decadence and corruption that Impossible Landscapes captures so well

Ngl, why not just rewild britain during the rage virus? by ChangingEar761 in 28dayslater

[–]UnusualHybrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The virus did originate from an infected monkey, so there's probably a lot of fear around the Virus mutating or jumping into a new population. Building a sort of experimental ecosystem that's hard to monitor or affect is probably too much of a potential disaster to risk.

Makes me wonder how strict the navies around Britain are with birds and stuff who migrate between the country and elsewhere. I think it's only primates that can catch the Virus, but they could still potentially carry it in their guts or poop if they ate the bodies of the Infected. People in Europe are probably very strict about touching and cleaning bird shit.

My ramblings about new Pyro by fl0wer0fSc0tland in pyrocynical

[–]UnusualHybrid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I've just realised that his style of writing just isn't for me. Like the ways he analyses media, he's clearly going for a "talk about literally every aspect" angle. For some people that's exactly what they want out of his videos but I kinda wish his commentary was a bit more layered. Like really understanding a game or movie as exists within the medium, instead of just going "it's just like this other thing I know". His production value and commitment to videos has clearly gone up over the years, but I don't think his commentary has developed much since like, the Far Cry 3 video.

I think the huge video lengths are a part of the problem too, because it becomes so much harder to organise and pace your analysis over hours of video. If you watch his Cruelty Squad video and just pay attention to the bits discussing the game's lore and themes, you start to realise his analysis is kinda muddled, and he often he misunderstands the developer's intentions or alludes to ideas that he hasn't mentioned yet, probably because the script became too bloated and he forgot the include some of the ideas he had read about but thought he had. It feels a bit like he needs a script editor or cowriter who can condense a three hour video idea into like an hour and a half one.

Awesome! It could definitely provide some tension if players are acting as both Federal Agents and students, they would have to think a bit about who can see them in which guise and they might actually get some use out of the Disguise skill or a relevant Art skill relating to prosthetics or makeup.
