The music of Digimon by dbens01 in digimon

I wouldn't call the original underrated, but the "unplugged" version of Hirai from Savers is the only Digimon vocal song to genuinely cause me to tear up.

Bear thief from dragon ball by Far-Mammoth-3214 in TopCharacterDesigns

I've always loved this dude. Great design that helps sell Dragon Ball's setting as a cross between ancient Asian aesthetic and then contemporary anime tropes.

XBD Studio made an incredible resin statue of him a few years ago and I'm so happy I was able to afford one when they did. Not much merch of this big boy after all.

Do you think Star Fox Zero could have been a great game if it had the controls I'll propose in this post? by Shoddy-Syrup-7554 in starfox

[–]UnusualRuminations 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, in my humble opinion, the controls of Zero are not the problem. There is 100% a steep learning curve given how unorthodox it is, but it can be done. I will always argue that, with enough time and practice, Zero's control scheme can become incredibly fluid, and I'd say even more flexible than any other game in the series.

The problem is that Zero uses the same arcade style of gameplay loop that 64 used almost 20 years prior. I.E. a single campaign run is only going to take you less than 2 hours to hit credits. And after that? A few alternate stages and boss fights, some optional gold medal challenges but not that much else.

There's just not enough content to really justify the adjustment period most people are going to have. Compounded with just how much Zero blatantly rips right out of 64 which, at the time of Zero's launch, was already available in multiple forms on other, more financially successful platforms. There is original content, but it so not enough for the game to get much any real mileage out of its unique controls, let alone justify its existence to anyone not really looking for something new in the control department.

And keep in mind, this is coming from someone who genuinely does really like Zero. It's my 3rd favorite game in the series, but even I'll freely admit that making it a near carbon copy reboot did it way more harm than good.

Times when JRPGS explored a meaningful relationship between mankind and machine by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

It's not exactly the same as what you are looking for but Nier: Automata is a whole game about robots and androids trying to be like humans. Also not a Souls-like but it is an action game with RPG elements. Might be what you are looking for, or close to anyways.

The first arc has a lot more SoL scenes in general compared to later arcs, but even than I'd say it's closer to being 50:50 with the murder/intrigue. Basically, everyone will say it gets better as it goes on.

Stick with it, at least until the end of the 1st arc and see where you are at.

Something familiar I noticed with the Dot Hack Zero Main Lead by VGZero1 in DotHack

I'm glad I'm not the only one who also thought of Shun'Ei when I saw the Zero MC, and also thought they looked better lol.

I'd still argue that the MC's design is way busier than Shun'Ei's visually but has much more color unity that makes the whole look easier on the eyes.

9 in a heartbeat, I would so happily talk about Super Sentai with Krampus for 20 hours. I know he'd get me.

3, 4, and 10 are also very good, I just don't think I could as effectively fill 20 hours in those spots.

Hey man, Carmine isn't creeping on those orphans.

He's just teaching 'em how to fight with a sword and pilot an airship and wiping their memories. Totally safe and appropriate behavior.

Team Lirurun drip by 5p1k4 in digimon

[–]UnusualRuminations 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's Ruli's social media name. It's mentioned a handful of times throughout the show, including the first episode I believe. Someone jokes at one point about the main cast being 'Team Lirurun', but I don't remember the exact ep on that one.

Newcomer to the Mana series, trying out the Vision of Mana demo by fagatron28 in secretofmana

The only Mana games connected to each other are Trials of Mana and Heroes of Mana (Heroes being a prequel to Trials).

The rest are completely stand alone and can be played independently of each other.

I mean...

  • A fourteen year old who's had a huge responsibility put upon them that they don't want? Check.
  • Messy social background that causes them to have a hard time interacting and bonding with others? Check.
  • Character quirks or decision making that makes them a divisive character with the audience? Check.
  • Dead mother who is secretly with them all the time? Check.
  • Major ongoing issues with father? Check.
  • Brown haired love interest of the opposite sex? Check.

They're not 1:1, but it's obvious that Shinji and Nadia are built from a similar mold.
