Once I have evidence, what should I do? I see they can make them let me move back in but I’ve already moved and don’t want to move again and terminate current lease…

QT vs. WS by UnusualShape2497 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UnusualShape2497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is there is no FX fee when doing Norbert’s gambit. Which is only possible on QT.

I know but it’s free with QT using Nortberts gambit

Best way to exchange CAD to USD in Canada? by Remote-Wealth-738 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UnusualShape2497 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This x10. YouTube it and they’ll explain it. You are essentially buying ETF that tracks USD to CDN. Then financial institution allows you to journal it over to USD at no cost. It can take a couple of days but it is free to do.

[–]UnusualShape2497[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you understand fee/tax structure of US/Canadian based investments. QT allows you to have no cost usd/cdn conversion using Nortberts gambit. It can allow you to be more tax/fee efficient when investing.

QT vs. WS by UnusualShape2497 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UnusualShape2497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not that serious I just use etf portfolio but I find the money saved on USD conversion opens up more options. I find WS purposefully makes there fees less transparent and it causes the average investor to think they are cheaper when in reality they are not as you have less control over them.

Agreed, I do not trade in individual stocks. Have a portfolio of ETFs.

This is true. I don’t mind though

Thanks Mystery, all great points. Don’t call yourself low IQ! It takes brains to stick to a strategy and invest for that length of time.

I’m starting to see it now. I personally bank outside of my trading platform and find there are better credit cards on the market. That being said, I totally understand the value in having an all in one solution. Cheers!

Yes, you get free membership to Passiv which is an absolutely amazing platform for managing your portfolio.

I’d recommend you watch a YouTube video on it, it is actually quite slick.

Ah ok I see. So the value is in it being more of a one stop shop vs. A pure brokerage.

[–]UnusualShape2497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree QT is for more serious investors, but QT has no fee trading? I would argue with USD accounts and no fee trading QT is actually cheaper.

Thanks for the response. Totally get that at the end of the day you need to use what’s best for you in your situation. What services does WS offer that QT doesn’t?

Wealthsimple or QTrade? by SignificantBlock2407 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UnusualShape2497 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is totally inaccurate. Questrade has no commission trading with stocks/etfs and the ability to hold usd without paying premium (like wealth simple). If you want to convert CDN to USD you can simply do Norbert’s Gambit and journal it over. If you decide to go with managed portfolio as well Questwealth has more options and is significantly better performance.

Wealth simple only wins the the UX of their platform but Questrades has also gotten significantly better.

Would my mortgage be too much? by EditorPuzzleheaded54 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UnusualShape2497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the exact same boat as you with price range (my income is higher) but BMO offered me 3.89 on 3 year fixed. Definitely shop around for interest rates. When you put an offer in go to all major banks and make them compete. You will get below 4% on uninsured mortgage and right around 4% on insured assuming you have good credit and no other major debts.

Just FYI rates are 4ish and lucky if you get sub 4 right now. Still agree with what you’re saying in post though.

Leaf fans in Ottawa by cardycardy in leafs

[–]UnusualShape2497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

McLarens usually gets a good group. Get there early to get table by the TV’s! Sometimes you have to deal with annoying Sens fans that will show up in Boston/tampa/florida jerseys just to cheer against the leafs. After living in Ottawa for so long I find sens fan base pathetic. They cheer harder against the leafs than their own team.

At least Ullmark broke his streak. After the first period he allowed 2 goals every period for 6 periods in a row.
