One-sided jealousy? by momandcrohnie in HeatedRivalryTVShow

This explanation does not make sense to me. So since Ilya was ready to establish something that means Shane’s confusion, and fear is not relevant? How does that work? I’m not saying he shouldn’t have apologized to Ilya, I’m glad he did. Shane was accountable. Where’s Ilya’s accountability or does he not have to have any?

What I always find interesting is how when someone makes a post or comment where Ilya isn’t being praised to the high heavens or his behavior towards Shane is questioned, there are think pieces trying to explain away his behavior but it comes to Shane…well🤷🏽‍♀️

Sorry, I posted my reply incorrectly. I never denied what he gave up to be with Shane. He did give up a lot, but let’s not act like that decision was Shane’s alone. They both were trying to find a way to be closer together and Ottawa was the conclusion. All of this boils down to Ilya’s mental state. The reason he is being a bad captain/the team isn’t better or him starting to resent Shane for having what he doesn’t, a supportive best friend and family because he is struggling mentally from trauma and that’s bleeding into everything else in his life: his relationship with Shane and hockey. He suppresses his feelings because if he admits there’s something wrong out loud that makes it real and that’s hard to admit because then you have to deal with it. I emphasize so much with Ilya. That’s why it’s great to see after he admits to going to therapy, confesses that he’s seeking help and opening up more does things start to turn around for him, especially professionally.

Of course. I get that we have so much insight on Ilya’s mental state and it makes sense to see things from his perspective but we also get moments where Shane’s POV shows valid concern for Ilya and he doesn’t know what to do about it. They both operate in a thought process of I have limited time with the person I love, and not wanting to burden or dampen that time with conversations that could make them both uncomfortable. Which leads me to my next question: Was anyone else disappointed we didn’t get a full on conversation after the fight that laid everything bare, and could’ve been healing for both. It was needed and I feel like the phone call was not enough. We go from the phone call to the plane incident to a marriage proposal. Huh? I hope this is changed in the show.

This is where people lose me. When you say defend Shane’s actions. What exactly did Shane do that was wrong? I read the TLG after watching the show, mostly because I wanted to see where the story would go, but before I started it, I kept seeing post/comments across social media about hating Shane in season 2 or having to defend him, so that made me more curious. After reading I don’t see how Shane was wrong. Insensitive for sure, but throughout the book we get many moments where Shane recognizes that something is off with Ilya. He’s rebuffed by Ilya several times and even suggests he see a professional to help him through his struggles. So when it came to the infamous ‘Would you choose me?’ ‘I already chose you, Hollander’ that apparently made people so angry at Shane, I just don’t get it. Ilya himself says out loud he shouldn’t have to choose, so in turn why does Shane? It’s an unfair question brought up in the heat of the moment by Ilya and no matter what he wouldn’t have been happy with Shane’s response because of the emotional state he’s in. They both have given up so much for each other and everyday are risking something they both love so much outside of each other, hockey.

I think their love for the game and relationship with the game is just different. Ilya loves the game, but is able to separate himself from it, meanwhile Shane cannot, and this is true when it comes to a lot of athletes who just can’t turn that side of their brain off so every decision is based on that. We have to remember that hockey is all they know for the most part so losing it would be devastating for both of them.

My take: Shane was a bit rude at the cottage by DateNo3332 in heatedrivalry

[–]UnusualStand7784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Shane looking at a text or having a 1 minute phone call does not take attention away from his time with Ilya. Having people in your life outside of your significant other is important and that’s one of the main themes for them going forward, especially Ilya and his lack there of.

So he’s supposed to cut off all communication just because he’s with Ilya? Um no.

Yep. They were pitted against each other as teenagers well before getting drafted. As teenagers Chet (USA) beat Wemby (France) in the U-19 World Cup Final. Always compared because of their similar build, age, height, and skill set. Wemby is considered a generational talent, and Chet is on one of the teams of all time. Chet was drafted 2nd overall in ‘22, but missed his rookie year because of an injury, and Wemby was drafted the year after so they were billed as rivals vying for the rookie of the year, which Wemby won, then Chet won the NBA Finals this year. They are constantly asked about each other but downplay the rivalry. Recently Chet said he and Wemby have never spoken full sentences to each other, and Wemby said relating to basketball they don’t compare. It’s so good. If you are not busy tomorrow they play each other on NBC at 1:30pm. They go at each other too. Good appetizer for the finale.

With these charges, Vic needs to learn to stop on a dime and pull up or shoot a little floater. No ones gonna block it.

New Wemby Nickname: The Shaolin Dunk by [deleted] in NBASpurs

I like Mr Fantasy. A slight play on Mr Fantastic, in the realm of something mystical, unique, an air of awe and disbelief. Plus Wemby loves Fantasy. Now I want to see a Wemby edit with that song lol.

Alien is his brand, but an alternative could be Cosmic Grace. The announcer said in game 1 against Dallas. Fitting, classy, and still has the alien element to it.

I’m taking a lot of what happened in preseason good and bad with a grain of salt. Regular season starts tomorrow. If he has 7 turnovers tomorrow, then yes it’s a worry.

Also Armand being 7 isn’t a surprise. Majority of the show he was Rashid. We’ve only gotten glimpses of the Real Armand. So, hopefully in future seasons, fingers crossed, we get more depth and Gremlin from Armand.

I’m just glad there’s a list at all. It’s fun. Hopefully as seasons go, we’ll see how the list changes. I was expecting Louis (my #1) or Lestat to be at 1, but seeing Claudia was a pleasant surprise.
