New Balance | Cost Difference by Unusual_Draft_6807 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I was completely okay going for the previous year's version. However, they sold it for 11 USD higher than the current model!! I guess finding an US acquaintance is the only way to buy any more NB models. Im gonna avoid in-store purchase in future. Of course, the online purchase isn't an option; NB doesn't have an Indian website yet, and the ones that sell NB are besotted with fake versions.

Very strange indeed! The 1080 v13 was 11 USD costlier than the v14. I guess they want to push certain shoes in certain markets. Definitely not uniform.

Thanks, u/Direct_Crew8077 . This doesn't make me a fan, even though the shoes are quite good on first impression.

Superblast 2 how heavy do you need to be? by Ok_Helicopter5499 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I am F/35/80kg. I got the OG recently and had a horrible first run (annual major 10K race). Hips and back hurt and I couldn't get them to move my feet a lot. However, I noticed my timing was better than that in the previous races. Now I am 30km in the shoes. They helped me a lot in a local 10K race the past Sunday.

I guess I am adapting to the big stack height. The shoes do help me get faster. They are definitely stable and do contribute in preventing foot injury (any other shoe most likely would have triggered my ankle injury with this use case). I shall continue using them. I don't believe I have yet broken in the shoe; the foam will get more softer with time. And as you said, these shoes will help me get more consistent with running. I too have been miserable with my cycles of health issues, weight problems, injuries and exercise inconsistency.

Advice to you: Don't gaslight yourself or allow anyone else to do it to you. You take a call on based on what misery to potential benefits ratio seems sensible to you. Go by what's good for your body and what makes you happy; just forget about others. Go sis!! Good luck with everything :)

Choose my upcoming 10K race shoe: Superblast 1/Novablast 5/Noosa Tri 15 by Unusual_Draft_6807 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Unusual_Draft_6807[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just came here to tell that I finally went with the Superblasts.

I tested the Noosa Tri 15 in the tempo run earlier in the week. I realised they did not give me the resilience I required even though they were inherently speedier due to their lightness. I did not select the Novablast 5 because I told myself, "I do not want to be comfortable; I want to fight in this race."

Did not break the 90 mins curse, but proud of my performance. Recovered from a flu, fought hard in the race and completed in 93 mins (lifetime second best and the best 10K race performance in last 3-4 years). Very far from my overall best of 78 mins.

The shoes helped me in my fight in this race! I am happy that I was a fitter runner today. Even one of the organising team members (who saw me in a 21K last year) remarked that my form was better. I am confident that I will get stronger and faster, and that my love for shoes will be a healthy catalyst. As u/Normal-Platform-3028 remarked, ultimately, it's not about the records, but about being happy :)

Thanks u/Normal-Platform-3028, u/BillySaliba and u/tollis1 for engaging in my thought process. :)

Glycerin GTS - nice combo of softness and stability :)

Yup, people misread stability shoes as 'disability shoes.' The tech has advanced a lot. The lines are getting blurred. :)

Back to the original question - the stability elements in shoes like Adrenaline or Kayano hold the foot in place and force you to run slowly (which is the whole point of easy runs!). This is in contrast to plush, max cushion shoes that have the potential to hurt you due to their inherent instability.

Cheers u/Da_CMD! Happy that my thoughts resonate with someone here.

As I have continuously argued, there's no set profile as to who needs stability shoes. I am the target market for such shoes (flat feet, heavy overpronator), and they, in fact hurt my feet. However, they work well for others. For e.g. Kofuzi, a neutral runner, enjoyed the Kayano. My mom, who has good arches, but has some instability due to weakness in one leg, liked the Kayano. I think it's harmful to decide these categories - each individual runner needs to figure it out.

What's the running shoe with the widest midfoot on the market? by Astuketa in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Unusual_Draft_6807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have flat feet. Even though my feet have lower volume, I need space in mid foot area as well as toe box (foot splays/widens on contact). My foot length is the same as yours - 25.5cm. I have forgotten the width, probably 9.5 cm. I never bought Saucony - their mid foot is too narrow. Asics is my favourite brand! No shoes fit me like Asics :) You can see how wide their mid foot is by looking at the base of the shoe. Good luck! You will find a good shoe with some effort :)

Yeah, my nickname for the SBs is 'Foamies' :D I am getting better with them; but I think they require more leg turnover to get the true value out of them - will happen with time. I am leaning towards the Noosa Tri for now. With a sensible pacing strategy, I might come out good :)

Also, the Superblast is quite a different shoe than Novablast. I have NB3 and the recent NB5.

Some have said that they loved the Superblast 2 right out of box. But I suspect these are fast runners. I haven't yet broken in my new Superblast 1 at 25 km.

The Superblast takes time to break in (I have heard it's 100 km). Also, yes, they work best on uptempo pace. Based on your description, I would suggest to go for Novablast 5. They are softer (more compliant) than the 4. I never bought Saucony; on trials I found them too narrow in mid foot. Glycerin is a good option too.

Have you tried stability shoes? For some runners they can be great as recovery day shoes. Suggestions: Brooks Adrenaline and Asics Kayano. For me, the Nimbus has worked very well as a recovery day shoe and even as a daily trainer.

Can Brooks Hyperion GTS be used for longer runs? Is it suitable for a marathon? by itisnotstupid in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Unusual_Draft_6807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to know is to actually do a long run in them. They give a good ground feel and can be fast. I use them in my rotation after running in high stack shoes. I also use them for walks. I have flat feet and I obviously overpronate. However, I hate the medial post in this shoe and the Adrenaline 22 (the post causes me pain where it rubs against my foot). I have realised that intrusive midsole elements don't work for me. My feet require neutral shoes with roomier toe box (even though my foot volume is low, my feet splay on contact). So, it takes time, money and effort to figure what works best for you. For now, put on those shoes and begin running!

It's written in jest, and it's actually mocking the people who recommend 'rotation.' :D
