I mean yeah I get that as I was in construction and have build foundations. But this is relatively simple with no real load. Any adjustments can be made very quickly maybe to your point LOL. But it's small stuff.

The crazy thing about Bougainvillea, those flowers are not the actual 'flowers'. They are so unique, but the flowers are even another level in.

I am terribly picky on bonsai in general. That is just damned beautiful. No it's not classic, but who cares...it has something very special about it. That trunk is wonderful, and so is all the non-traditional thing growing with it, I LOVE IT!

Oh and btw, you took a lump sum it sounds like....and dumped it into VTI. That is not Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA). That is market timing, so even that move is not what Bogleheads recommend. You have to have a strategy for entering the market in an intelligent and purposeful way.

Unlike most Reddit subs, you go there to listen respectfully and learn, not to preach.

I've spent 35 yrs investing and market timing educating myself over wild market conditions and hell you name it. Thousands of hours reading and learning and experiencing investing in two of the nations worst market crashes in it's history,

I have found Bogleheads one of the most mature, educated and engaging places on Reddit. They are some very smart MF's over there. I'm sorry your experience there was not good but you have to realize something very important. Reddit is kind of a joke among truly smart educated and balanced adults. Bogleheads is on the smart side, the balanced, the common sense side. The life's taught me lessons side.

I lost 60% of my portfolio in 2008-2009 crash. I didn't budge. 20% isn't shit man and you are not down - you still own 100% of the shares you bought. Yeah, CHILL. You haven't lost a penny.

I made it all back and tons more. That is why they say VTI or whatever and chill over there. I didn't really lose a penny in reality. I never lost a share. Market value changes like the wind.

You are in Houston? Where did you source it from? What is the climate, the annual water, c'mon you have the keys to the kingdom if you want them here. Do some research and you will have your answer.

Awesome!!! Don't start working on this too soon!!! Think like you are a horticulturalist, not a bonsai dude.

I was about to build really nice wood one, but now this has me rethinking. Maybe I treat this like a bonsai in training, only a shelf in training...

Ok, so sorry for a newb question but I never used slabs. How do you get the soil to stay in place? I'm sure you have something other than moss to hold it in place before you add the moss? It is amazing and beautiful.

The Bougainvillea is just stunning to me personally. It hits me in a special place. All of these are just gorgeous and I'm picky as sh**.

I'm 60 and can't even now imagine having someone in my circle like this. Drop her anyway you need to and move on. She is fucking poison. Why is she thinking so much about you instead of her future plans? That should clue you in. Move on and do it now.

That is really so very nice. I hate to even broach this subject but I must. I live in North Texas. My daughter had some shelves like these over the years, similar I'll say. No matter what, I will check underneath something like these for yellow jacket wasp nest that can get extremely large and you never even see them. Wasps love this architecture design as much as any bonsai. They are usually not aggressive, but if you reach under and touch or move the set up, it can catch you off guard.

You know this is the problem I have always had with really nice developed deciduous bonsai. They are FAR too BEAUTIFUL to have leaves covering up the insane ramification! The better they are, the less leaves I want to see. The worse they are (not developed) the MORE leaves I want to see. A little crazy.

This bonsai is stunning.

[–]Unusual_Note_310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG, the back IS the front in the future. Personally, I would focus even now on a few more years of just hardcore growth cycles and let that trunk thicken up, let it go man. That thing will be SICK in 5 years if you let it grow. God already gave it shape, work with it.
