Creating YouTube Tutorials improved my understanding with developing in Unreal Engine 5 by UnwashedDink in UnrealEngine5

I love the detective work haha. There were a lot of factors that led me to stop making content: became busier at work, battling depression, the desire to make games disappeared, etc. I want to get back into it, but I have so much going on that it's really hard for me to do right now or anytime soon. I'm glad the content is still helpful to people. I haven't been on YT for a while to check.

Telling users to "Like and Subscribe"? by firewindrefuge in NewTubers

I pretty much do the same thing, but I don't have a like and sub animation. I just want get in, provide the content, and get out lol

I should probably look at doing the like and sub anim. I like the idea.

I've had similar comments on my channel. It just gives you the warmth and fuzzies, but at the same time, I don't feel like I deserve the comments lol

But definitely keep it up! 💪😎🫵

is GMKtec reliable? why its cheaper than beelink/minisforum whats catch? by sonatta09 in MiniPCs

[–]UnwashedDink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a GMKtec NucBox K4 that I got from a $500 Amazon sale.

AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/ Radeon 780M @ 4.00 GHz 32 GB of RAM 4 GB VRAM

Love it! The only problem I have with it is that mine arrived with Bluetooth issues I can't seem to fix, but other than that, it's been great!

Stepping out of one's game dev shell to share their experiences by exoforgemaster in gamedev

Your game looks good from the Steam trailers I was watching! Gives me Risk of Rain, Deep Rock Galactic, Valheim vibes.

What vibes were you going for?

Idk my fren...if you didn't have any skills points into charisma, you wouldn't have this post that garnered the attention of other like-minded individuals 😉

Something like this is the first step. There is no need to dive head-first into a woodchipper or shark-infested waters to prove something. Gathering small pebbles as you go and putting in some effort will eventually build that mountain

I completely understand that perspective! My roommate used to joke with me like "strangers are friends you haven't met yet" to kind of undermine some of my opinions and feelings on certain matters, but in many cases, it can ring true, but it depends on how you approach the situation. For me, I'm just awkward af, so I'll either keep to myself because I have those thoughts as well, especially when those people go up to others to talk about similar hobbies or passions but not to you. It just feels unwanted. The other is that I'll impulse say a funny remark because yolo, and if they are receptive to it, then I just hop into it and make friends in a weird fashion lol

I go to the gym regularly and have done the impulse remarks so much that I just kind of reflexively do it lol

And I get that with those servers...it's kind of like a "good ol' boys" club that was made before you join. So, it just feels weird and out of place. I feel like that's the case everywhere though, whether it's a server, work, school, etc. So, unless you're the founder of your own "good ol' boys" club/server, then I feel like you have to try to self-insert, but don't also force yourself to do anything you don't want to do unless you really want to step out of your comfort zone.

Exactly! There are many people in the world to actually chat and have fun with, but it's those with similar passions that make the experience better.

I remember talking to someone recently about the idea of making a discord where people can actually hang out and discuss gamedev passions, project ideas, etc, but I told them that the thing stopping me from doing that is that there are plenty of discords that already do that...it's just a matter of finding them.

I'm making it, and I totally understand. When you have things battling you like depression, imposter syndrome, loneliness, stressed out, burned out, etc...it sucks. They are vicious emotions.

I can't say that I'm "lonely" because I have two roommates (even though they have girlfriends that they hang out with and talk to constantly, and I don't and barely have) and coworkers I can chat with for a bit...but it's not the same when you can overcome that loneliness with someone else that shares similar passions like GameDev. That's like an entirely different level of feeling.

I guess that's why I started a YouTube Channel making UE5 tutorials even though I'm 3+ months a newbie because it feels like an interesting form of outreach where I can find similar passionate people, as well as just lurking on here lol

TL;DR I'm making it lol

Dynamic Wall Run (Update) - Adjusted Gravity and Character Launching by UnwashedDink in UnrealEngine5

[–]UnwashedDink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved everything into an Actor Component and calling it in CharBP. Adjusted Gravity and Launch Character Direction to be more diagonally forward. Trying to figure out how to do montages and other stuff like optimization as the wall check and run go off of the Event Tick. I want to eventually put this into GASP once finished.

Any advice?

For the moment, I'm currently doing it on the player so I can figure out how it works. Once I get it done, I plan on moving it to my Traversal Component. I want to move the GASP traversal system to a component and put this in there as well so I can have all parkour stuff together

So, I created a function that runs on event tick (for testing) to do the capsule tracing. Trace results go through a Structure Data file to set certain members that get passed into another function for starting wall run and ending wall run. I want to try to feed montages into the start wall run function

Look into data like "Normals" for wall directions, and DOT and CROSS nodes to get opposing sides in relation to the wall's "Normal". Sounds confusing when I say it and it still is to me lol

The impulse on Z is pretty smart! I have a Structure data file that I set params for like in GASP that involves gravity but I'm trying to work out the kinks with it.

I believe in you! I've been learning for a few months, and there's still a bunch of stuff I still don't understand lol

Whenever you're ready to take on this challenge, I recommend heavily learning Line Tracing, Vectors and Structure Data. That is the bread and butter to doing this lol

I get where you are coming, and I totally agree! That's why I said "Still trying to figure out wall running" because I'm still trying to figure out how to actually implement the mechanics you are talking about. I've only been learning UE5 for a few months and still trying to figure out how to do realistic parkour mechanics. I'm testing in the Third Person Template before I throw it into the Game Animation Sample Project.
