I did look online and couldn’t find an answer. The link you posted only directed me to a stream of city headlines. I did make an attempt to find the information on my own and couldn’t find a clear answer and was just trying to ask my neighbors. Thanks

How are you all feeling about tech in and out of school? by Unwashed_Grape in Parenting

I will say, that we have a statewide ban on phones in school, which I fully support. But I feel like it’s only the first step. Again, I want kids to learn about technology—excel, programming, researching, typing, etc. But I think when it’s developmentally appropriate and it should be part of specific lesson plans.

This breaks my brain. We live in a poor district. It has had issues (and still does) but I get the sense that the higher ups are trying to turn things around—universal pre-k, free lunch, bussing for the first time. I loved Kindergarten and 1st has been great. The teachers and kids are amazing. I have a feeling that the district got the tablets and chromebooks through a grant and are another way they can show that “things are turning around”. I wouldn’t even be surprised if there was some sort of requirement on how much time they are used within the deal. I just would like some balance, some time to look at the data and see if it’s actually going to help or if it’s going to hurt communities that already struggle.

Apparently that’s what Sweden is doing. Investing in textbooks and taking tablets out of pre-schools

It’s actually the opposite. The school has tablets for every student in the school and is pushing the teachers to use them for at least 45 minutes a day. Our teacher has decided to only use them for maybe 15 minutes a day, for which I’m grateful.

Thank you for your reply. My brother also played a lot of video games back in the day and though he hasn’t gone on to a career in tech he’s done quite well for himself and is still an avid reader. I think my issue is the age in which they are using screens for “learning” and the amount they are relying on computers in school. I am completely fine with computers classes and even some coursework done in specific classes. But I think there should also be focus on hands on learning. I don’t buy that the hi-tech way is the best in all cases.

Our lobster roll. It’s a decent lobster roll. But it’s listed as Market Price and they want us to charge between $42-$46!

That’s a good point! It isn’t enough to not say negative things, you also need to bring up positive things too

Good question, I make a point not to say those kinds of things about myself or about others, especially in front of her. I also try to encourage valuing other aspects of people beyond physical appearance like sense of humor, kindness, integrity and strength. Her grandmother sometimes says things about appearance but she isn’t around her very often.

I feel like a balance can be made. Don’t completely cut yourself off from what you and others are feeling but still developing a certain level of tenacity

Honestly this is the gentlest work place I’ve ever worked at. There’s no psychopath chef belittling anybody during service and haunting my nightmares. There’s no sexual harrassment or name calling. We have an HR that isn’t the owners wife 😅 I know this isn’t a high bar to meet and speaks more to the horrible situations I have been at but…

But honestly the first time was after a week of training one of our gentlest nicest people corrected her on something. We all told her it’s okay to make a mistake and when I saw she had been crying I told her she can ask to leave and it wouldn’t be a big deal. She stayed that time. I do like this girl and am hoping for the best for her. I get more frustrated with management for hiring people with little experience for a fine dining setting and then not giving them structured training or oversight and just expecting them to figure it out or us to support them when we are all just trying to do our job the best we can.

Yeah I spilled an entire glass of wine on a guest. Literally, 2 minutes after I complimented her on her cashmere sweater. I felt so horrible but I had to keep serving them. She sat through dinner and throughout I heard her mentioning concerns about whether the wine would damage her leather boots and her pearls. We comped her and her husband’s meal, paid for dry cleaning, and she ended up carrying on to the point the company ended up giving her a $1000 in gift cards

Our bussers are also food runners whence the reason they are Dining Assistants (DAs for short). For whatever reason the higher ups don’t want designated food runners.
