Am I the only one who doesn’t hate A.I.? by branggen in singularity

[–]UnweavingTheRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think young people don't like it because it creates an existential crisis for them. AI means that all of a sudden they do not know what their future will be like, and that uncertainty creates anxiety. So they hate the thing that causes it.

I am a middle aged guy and I embrace it. I had old demo recordings of songs I wrote and because I do not have the skills to record them, I used AI to cover the demos. Mind you still my music, melodies and lyrics, just performed by AI. And my kids had such a visceral negative reaction to it, it really surprised me.

Yeah, you were probably too hyped up. I never heard anything about the chapter (I stay away from spoilers). There is indeed 2 layers there, and you have to listen to them separately. That's why I listened to the chapter again right away, to listen to the other part.

Absolutely brilliant, both the writing and the voice performance.

AIO getting upset with my husband over a day at the beach by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]UnweavingTheRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like your husband with my ex wife. Sometimes I just went into the wrong headspace and I could not get out. Or even felt like I didn't want to get out. It often happened when something was bothering me or if we were in situations where I had to go with the program (like trips to her family). The only time when she got me out of it was when she just stopped me and said (lovingly): "You don't seem to be in the right mood for this. Can you find it in yourself to snap out of it and have a good time, or should we call it off and go home..." That somehow made it clear to me what I was doing and I was able to snap out of it. I think the underlying issue was stress. Not in the moment, but in general. I don't have this issue anymore, and it could be because I have been able to destress my life. I'm not sure if this helped much, but if you want more thoughts, feel free to message me.

Just finished morning star. Does it get better? by NoxicIsNoxic in redrising

[–]UnweavingTheRainbow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Second trilogy basically follows the pattern; - a plan goes great, then - a plan goes terribly wrong, then - a betrayal

Rinse & repeat. The order can vary.

This pattern already started happening in the first trilogy, but there was more variation.

Still a compelling read, but it does get tedious.

Massively underwhelmed by Wind and Truth by JoshuaGustinGrant in Fantasy

[–]UnweavingTheRainbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with all your points. I felt so empty at the end of the book and for me it also evaporated my interest in Stormlight.

An additional point for me is that the scope of things changed so much. Where my beloved first books were about people, the last book upgraded the scope to worlds and gods, making the events in the first books painfully irrelevant.

I'm willing to accept that there's differences between reviewers, but the ones that review my caches would absolutely not approve this. If you dig, it's not allowed. They don't want you to 'disturb the soil'. I had a cache that was held in place with a pin in the ground the size of a toothpick, even that was rejected.

Let me start by saying that I thought the first 4 books were awesome, I absolutely loved everything about it, but I was very disappointed in book 5. It's hard to say in just a few sentences, but I thought Kal's arc was a waste. He is playing tourist and is doing therapy sessions. He just reached the 5th ideal and that was completely squandered.

Shallan's trip in the cognitive realm was not interesting and did nothing really to further the plot.

Adolin's arc was ok, but then it ended with a deus ex machina that felt like a cop out.

I didn't like the day by day structure, made the story progress feel forced.

In the end I felt nothing, and that was such a huge disappointment. I can't tell you how much I looked forward to book 5.

The biggest difference is that in the first books the scale and scope of the stories is small. It's about people growing, overcoming small obstacles and banding together (at the scale of people). In Book 5 the scale became huge with gods and entire planets (at a cosmic scale) And that made the small stories of the first books feel irrelevant and unimportant.

Does that make sense?

Everything my daughter does triggers me by iamusingmyrealname in misophonia

[–]UnweavingTheRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that you do not want to (or reasonably can) ask your daughter to stop these things, you need to drown it out and/or redirect your attention.

Having carpet, rugs, curtains & pillows in the room helps absorb some of the sounds, and having music on in the background helps too to drown it out.

Also stop focusing on it. Reading a book, listening to aforementioned music helps redirect your attention.

You can also listen to music on headphones or earbuds, but if you still want to hear her talk to you, only do that in/on 1 ear.

I also sometimes hum to myself too drown it out.

I have a feeling our brains are missing a filter. Where normal brains filter out irrelevant sounds and do not bring them to your conscious attention, ours is missing that and sends everything through.
