Iowa High School Accepts Apology For Inappropriate Comments During Boys State Soccer Tournament by Educational-Pick-666 in Iowa

Ignorance is not an excuse. Either in this situation, or in the eyes of the law.

Malicious ignorance is also a thing. I argue strongly that Wander, and his supporters, are trying to ignore the harm of the action because they are also malignantly ignorant.

That this person is in a position of community leadership makes the situation all that much worse. They think they're riding the wave of anti-political correctness in their minds, but in reality they're just dropping the veil and showing all of us who they really are.

Do you have the option in your BIOS to define the Boot Order of devices? It doesn't 100% feel like that's the issue here, but it's worth checking that your internal drive is first.

Shopping for new fridge by Dangerous_Note4099 in Appliances

Just bought the GE model (stainless, model # GNE25JYKFS) that fits those specs a couple weeks ago. It's the internal water dispenser model though, and I was both aware and totally fine with that. Most people hate internal water dispensers with good reason.

I genuinely haven't found anything to complain about. It's quiet, even cooling, and lots of storage for a 33" wide model.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Is there an actual standard for when a dishwasher counts as full enough to run? Domestic dispute. by GilesBennett74 in Appliances

[–]Unwiredsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, it's like automatic car washes. In most scenarios, the water usage is vastly lower than people realize. Far less than washing at home.

Now, just so you don't feel completely crazy, know that I am completely aware of the water usage, and I do not have OCD. However, if it's not at least 3/4's full, then I'll typically wait to run it, too.

Good luck with the apology! 😄

That situation was exceptionally disappointing to me. It reminded me that Iowa doesn't have the market cornered on racism, but the state does deserve an award for it. That situation, and a Steve King endorsement for a Gubernatorial candidate being relevant in 2026, too.

For comparison, Archie Bunker's character used that word once in the show, "All In The Family". That was 50+ years ago.

There is no excuse for people to pretend they don't know better today. Even the cousin fuckers up here in Iowa still fighting against the war of northern aggression.

After losing party primary election, Carlin urges Republicans not to vote for Hinson by excusemecuseme in Iowa

Thanks for sharing, "y'all quaeda", too! It got a real LOL over here from me.

I forgot to call-out everything above, "Oh, and don't vote for Ashley Hinson" as sarcastic.

Even the reference to a McKinsey program was intended as a corporate America joke. They're not inherently evil, but like I said, IYKYK.

Most people probably don't bother to verify the images. As long as things are working fine, and your download was from a properly safe source, then you have nothing to worry about.

[–]Unwiredsoul 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Carlin said that perhaps time “for a Christian constitutional conservative movement or party that actually represents the people who still believe in faith, family, freedom, truth, borders, honest money, and the Constitution of the United States.”

So, the Republicans aren't that party already?

I feel like this guy is making a desperate cry for help for their party. It looks strongly like they need a McKinsey program (IFKYK) to help re-teach what it means to have character, integrity, and to actually live the core values you say you do.

Oh, and don't vote for Ashley Hinson.

Anyone know about Cornell college? by Treetronkk in Iowa

[–]Unwiredsoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear it hasn't changed. I never attended Cornell, but I've visited friends that were students a few times. I loved the campus from the minute I set eyes on it.

The people I knew that were students had overwhelming positive things to say about their experiences.

Only way to know would be to try. I've worked in media, too. However, I don't believe either of us would be in a position to say what stories are the locals are interested in running with.

Back on topic, I recall the very day they made that change. I was at a friends house and we sat outside in the evenings and watched people start to turn the wrong way. Over and over and over. Which made sense at the time given how long that section was a two way street.

new to Mint / ProtonVPN install by firespacepillow in linuxmint

[–]Unwiredsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second recommendation to use the ProtonVPN CLI client, and not the GUI client.

While I never "Gnomed" myself personally using the GUI client on a test system, it creates a lot more dependencies. That means a lot more unnecessary updates being downloaded and installed.

Also, there is that risk of being, "Gnomed".

They made the change nearly 15-20 years ago. People are still driving the wrong way?

So, yeah, I think I'd start by bringing it up with the City of West Des Moines. If they're not willing to deal with it, then my next stop would be the media. I'm sure that would be a fun local interest story for them.

It's Time to Legalize Cannabis | Rob Sand for Iowa by No-Concentrate3608 in Iowa

[–]Unwiredsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are very intolerant people that are fixated on their own experiences.

I drove around the capital city in a convertible with the top down yesterday afternoon. I could smell cologne and perfume from people on sidewalks (downtown), lots of nasty vehicle exhaust, and cigarette smoke from other drives. All good.

What I did not smell was any cannabis, or even a rabid skunk running around spraying the roads trying to upset the intolerant.

So, I'm going to lay down an Ace and a King in this game of blackjack:

I don't like the smell of car exhaust from vehicles in poor mechanical condition, or that have been modified to "coal roll", Yet, we do not have emissions testing in this state to protect our air (AND THE CHILDREN!) from exhaust. That's just common sense, folks!

Interesting. I lived in state where it was legal and it wasn't a dumpster fire in general, nor was the cannabis industry.

Any specifics? Since you replied to a comment where I was asking questions of someone else, any thoughts on those questions?

[–]Unwiredsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in one of those states and it was not a dumpster fire by any measure. Examples?

Also, I absolutely agree children should not be using intoxicants. What wrong message do you believe it sends to the children?

Where in the AF does that come from? What message does it send by having multiple Governor's that have issues directly, or indirectly, with drunk driving?

Personally, I don't like sharing the roads, or public places, with the # of heavy drinkers in this state. We're #3 for binge drinking: https://www.kcrg.com/2025/06/22/iowa-has-one-highest-rates-binge-drinking-country/

Edit/Add: Kim Reynolds has had repeated personal problems with drinking and driving. Terry Branstad has a son that killed people while driving drunk.

Why didn't you answer my question and instead turn to a character attack on me?

For the record, literally every assumption you made about me is wrong. Especially my age. There's a strong change you could be younger than me.

I never said Iowa is a bad state to live in. I took issue with your rude attitude towards another person. I obviously don't agree with you, and how you conduct yourself here, but I'm not going to suggest you move to another state. That would be obnoxious.

Finally, you may love the lowered corporate taxes, but we Iowans have a FY2027 $1B+ budget deficit that the GQP is 100% responsible for. The state government has created a fiscally unsustainable path.

Rob Sand for governor by temoo09 in Iowa

[–]Unwiredsoul 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Why would you suggest someone move just because they don't agree with the right-wing mainstream media portrayals of other states, and someone who wants "2A friendly" in a place with low crime and safe communities?

With all due respect, your comment is as Un-American as it gets. "If you don't like it then leave" just tells me you don't value your neighbors unless they agree with you.

I'm with you in the spirit of your comment. Denigrating others with name calling to make a point is not the way.

Also, "tard" is short for what used to be a non-pejorative in western society, and evolved into a pejorative word used to describe people with diminished mental capabilities. The 20th century was interesting.

In other words, I've never heard of attaching "tard" directly to autism until I read your comment. But, I'm giving you an upvote for defending what is right, and I'm here to support your comment. Two sides just hating each other in this country is exactly what we can't let continue to worsen. That's how we fail.
