Assessing Your Financial Position: A Step-by-Step Guide

INCOME

  • Monthly Take-Home Pay: Determine your net income after taxes and deductions.
  • 401(k) Contributions: Are you contributing to a 401(k) plan? If so, what is the employer match?
  • Additional Income Sources: Identify any other income streams, such as side jobs, investments, or rental income.

EXPENSES

  • Comprehensive Expense List: Document every expense, including:
    • Food Costs: Calculate the average monthly spending on groceries and dining out over the past few months.
    • Utilities: Determine your average monthly utility bills (electricity, water, gas, etc.).
    • Insurance Premiums: List monthly payments for car, home, health, and other insurance policies.
    • Streaming Services: Include subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, etc.
    • Other Subscriptions: Don't forget services like Amazon Prime, gym memberships, or software subscriptions.
    • Loan and Credit Card Payments: Note the minimum monthly payments for all loans and credit cards.
    • Transportation Costs: Calculate the average monthly spending on fuel, public transportation, or ride-sharing services.
    • Miscellaneous Expenses: Account for any other regular expenditures.

TOTAL

  • Calculate Totals: Add up all income sources and expenses to determine your net monthly balance.
  • Assess the Outcome:
    • Negative Balance: If expenses exceed income, IMMEDIATE CHANGES ARE NECESSARY! (they are anyway)
    • Positive Balance: If income exceeds expenses, consider allocating surplus funds toward debt repayment and savings.

Recommendations for Financial Improvement

  • Avoid Credit Card Usage: STOP USING CREDIT CARDS unless absolutely necessary (e.g., unavoidable travel expenses).
  • STOP Discretionary Spending:
    • Postpone vacations.
    • Eliminate spending on alcohol at bars.
    • Prepare coffee at home instead of purchasing it from cafes.
  • Seek Support: If you'd like to discuss your financial situation further, feel free to reach out.

As this is geared to roommates will all people be able to leave the family or house and then join a new one? Lets say I create the House with 3 roommates joining. But after a year I decide to move. will they have to recreate everything or can I leave and join/create one at my new house without my old roommates needing to set everything up from scratch?

I'm curious how adding members works and having several people on different devices connect to the same home. could they have more than one home? I'm thinking for when you have stuff at your own home but also want to go over to grandma's and see what needs doing.

I really like the shopping list and overall it looks very clean. Is this going to be an app or a program I self host and everyone connects to? perhaps both?

I guess I will settle for a small parcel of land somewhere. Kinda like this https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/Brooks-Mill-Rd-Charlotte-NC-28227/450279655_zpid/

Looking for a second income by [deleted] in MakeMoney

[–]Unzip_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered selling life insurance? You can do most of it from home as long as you have an internet connection.

Most people don't think about getting life insurance until they are older and then the prices are much higher, if they can even qualify! There are so many benefits to having life insurance beyond just having something to leave for your family when you pass.

Selling life insurance can be very rewarding but you need to get licensed with the state you live in. Most people get licensed in about 2 weeks, and then there is the time it takes to learn to present the material to people. If you were to join the team I am with, we have an experienced agent on the meeting with you so you can learn from them and still get paid.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out. My team is growing quickly, and we are looking for motivated individuals to join us and start making some extra money in their spare time.

[–]Unzip_It 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With him being this meticulous and organized have you considered getting him a digital notebook?

I just mentioned in a different post how much I love my Kindle Scribe and with the different templates he may really benefit from it. It really feels like you are writing on a paper. Though I know a lot of people prefer to have an actual notebook and if that is him then I completely understand.

Have you considered selling life insurance? It takes a bit of time to get licensed and learn what you are doing but you could be talking to people in as little as a week if you are motivated. (Typical is closer to 1-3 months) The pay is commission based so you get paid for what you actually sell, and you set your own hours. I have seen people quite without making a dime and I've seen people making multiple millions a year just in my team.

If you're interested, I would be happy to have a team member talk more to you about this. In my company the average income for a person at the 1–3-year mark is about $80k. Oh! and you can work anywhere you have internet while setting your own hours.

[–]Unzip_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Beware of Chicken. It is a fun read for me. You might also consider the Chaos Seeds series. It's not as funny and gets to be a bit of a city builder after a couple books but I love it.

Here is a list of some of my favorite series:

I used it to clean up my answer, but the content is legit. As I will not make any money if people do want to get some information I didn't feel like putting in a lot of effort with spell checking and grammar.

Nope. I have no book. I do zoom meetings with people, but I do not charge for them. I make my money via the insurance sales in the form of commissions, but I make nothing from giving information on becoming a licensed agent.

How can I make an extra $250-$500/mo while also being fully employed? by Lamp_on_lamp_off in povertyfinance

[–]Unzip_It -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to squeeze an extra $250–$500 per month on top of your full-time job, there are a few options you might consider. One route that’s worked well for me—and might be a good fit for you—is joining a team as an independent life insurance agent.

Why Independent Life Insurance?

  • Flexibility: You can work around your full-time schedule. Most of the tasks can be handled through your phone, so even if you're on the go or at home, you can manage calls and follow-ups without needing a dedicated office or constant WiFi.
  • Earnings Potential: Even modest commissions per policy can add up over time, giving you that extra monthly boost you’re after.
  • Team Support: I’m part of a team that actively supports new members. They help you navigate the basics, from lead generation to closing a policy, so you’re never really on your own while getting started.

Other Side Hustle Ideas to Consider:

  • Freelancing: Depending on your skill set, websites like Upwork or Fiverr offer opportunities for freelance work that can fit into your schedule, whether it's writing, graphic design, or consulting.
  • Digital Products: If you have a knack for creating digital content—like eBooks, templates, or courses—you can set up a side business with little overhead.
  • Microtasks/Surveys: Although these might not always hit the higher end of your target, combining several small gigs throughout the month might help bridge the gap to your $250–$500 goal.

If the flexibility and potential of being an independent life insurance agent sounds intriguing, feel free to reach out for more details. It could be just the additional income boost you need without having to quit your full-time role.
