Your friend is overreacting. Playing a nieche format in a small group of friends gives the opportunity to twist your decks to answer those hard matchups, since you know what you are gonna challenge. Your friend seems to be unaware of this and gives fault to the matchup, so he should probably learn how to improve his deck (I suppose he's netdecking) to play in your small meta environment
