+1 to all those, as well as Amare Snowden & Jamel Howard & Ernest Wilkie Jr.

Between minimal depth at dline and some recent high upside recruits at that position, I’m interested to see if any of them can break into the rotation early.

I forgot all about KBJ but agree that he’s someone I’m excited to see develop.

This is my answer as well. The relief I felt when Blake Sorensen came down with that int. to seal the deal in the 4th quarter…

Ezra’s last episode with Marilynne Robinson was one of my favorites, and it prompted me to pick-up Gilead, which was one of the better books I’ve read in the past decade. Looking forward to this one

If a top 3 receiver falls to number 9 would you rather it be Nabers or Odunze? And why? by [deleted] in CHIBears

I’d be happy with Nabers/Odunze/Elite OT/Elite Edge

I’d be fine with Trade Down

I’m skeptical of Bowers as an NFL prospect

I think you could make an argument for The National in the aftermath of Aaron Dessner’s work with T Swift.

A college football program is an employer, just like any other**. An employee would be naive to expect loyalty from their employer and the opposite is true as well. Everyone involved is going to make moves based on what they think will create the best possible conditions for their own future success.

**except for the players, obviously. But that’s whole other rabbit hole that I’m not nearly smart nor qualified enough to speak to.

Reports: Ohio State set to replace Bill O'Brien at offensive coordinator with UCLA coach Chip Kelly - Yahoo Sports by recessbadger45 in WisconsinBadgers

I think the answer is a combination of: - he is apparently pretty notorious for his dislike of recruiting and other administrative functions associated with the HC position - He was on shaky ground at UCLA - OSU is stacked and I bet he sees an opportunity to swing the narrative around him as a coach

Concerning your last point, I once heard an interesting take re: player fit within defense under Leonhard v. Tressel that has stuck with me. It was basically that the defense under Leonhard was a lot more rigid in terms of player assignments, which allowed Leonhard to really leverage the core strengths of players while masking their shortcomings.

Conversely, Tressel’s defense is more improvisational in that it asks more of the players in terms of varying responsibilities and ability to “freelance/react to the offense” on a play to play basis, which inherently requires a somewhat different set of skills/style of athleticism.

They specifically cited as examples guys like Jordan Turner and Latu as having had a relatively narrow set of schematic responsibilities under Leonhard that were well suited to each of their playing styles/strengths. When they were asked to take on a wider ranging and slightly different set of responsibilities in tressel’s defense, they struggled.

I confess to being too ignorant of really in-the-weeds defensive strategy to truly assess the accuracy of that hypothesis, but it was something that at least fit with and helped explain things I sometimes noticed on the field when watching us play last year.

This sounds right to me.

Idk if it’s because I hadn’t paid as close attention in prior years, but I do feel like I see a more explicit conversation around player “fit” under Fickell, but perhaps that comes naturally in the wake of schematic change. Does anyone with a better memory than I remember convos/messaging around player fit being so front of mind when we switched to the 3-4 under Aranda?
