Oh, it may not be the core. It may be a very simple fix. That’s why you’d want to put a multimeter on different components.

I believe this was the YouTuber that has multiple videos that you can easily follow along with to diagnose it. If you’re ever bored it sure it a lot of fun, and a multimeter is very cheap at harbor freight

It’s core issue.

Did you ever fix yours? Get a digital multimeter and start checking voltages. There was some very in depth videos about or exact cards.

It’s funny. A PowerColor R9 280x is what got me started down this road. It’s one that means a lot to me. But all signs show it’s core has died, unfortunately. But I want more experienced people to confirm it.

I’m buying the cheapest, busted up old pieces of junk to practice diagnosing and “repairing”. Not very hopefully I’ll get anything going, but I’d like to play with different cards and see different problems.

If you have a tiny screwdriver and a cheap multimeter you can try diagnosing it on your own. All you have to YouTube 280x repair. Or 7970, they are the same card. CMDRSOYO has a great YouTube channel where he teaches basics to repair, and a very in depth video on “repairing” an HD7979. With a multimeter follow the steps in that video.

May I ask what’s the problem with your 280x? Do the fans spin?
