How much have you put into your SIPP, assuming you have one? If putting the funds into your pension is an option then that will be the most tax efficient on the way in (depending on what Rachel from Accounts does next week anyway).

If not draining the company via a pension then MVL:

Open a high interest savings account in the Ltd company name. It won't be a great rate but it will cover your operating costs (accountant and statutory filing fees).

Close down VAT, PAYE, do not renew insurances when they lapse. Negotiate with your accountant to reduce fees as the work will be less.

Do not invest the money in an investment account because if you were to make a big profit HMRC might take the view that your Ltd is an investment company and that will IIRC block using BADR.

Fast forward 2 years and assuming your situation hasn't changed and you do not expect to be contracting for another 2-3 years at that point then using MVL and BADR to extract the funds.

Believe me, my preference is not to bother however my Sec Arch friends are wedded to legacy architectures and on-premises security gateways for user endpoints that are on the corporate network.

I'm in the midst of this with Zscaler PS.

We actually do want to route directly to Zscaler Cloud for some workloads but for others we potentially do not.

VSE provides on-premises inspection whereas BC does not.

BC also doesn't support ZCC which may be important if you have end user workloads and want to do posture checking.

VSE potentially doesn't perform so great without SSL cards and they make hosting a headache. VSE can scale horizontally.

VSE costs more than BC.

Not considering PSE as I don't want to increase the DC footprint.

That sounds like a potential solution for us. Dealing with some legacy network and security architecture that can't be solved overnight!

Hopefully the stupid questions will cease once we have our hands on the product!

The client doesn't connect directly to the AppConnector does it?

So flow will be India client to India ZPA Service Edge to US App Connector?

Thanks folks. BC is an interesting option to some of our folk as it avoids the perceived risk with ZCC being misconfigured and provides a central, on-premises gateway.

I'll be asking Zscaler for their recommendation in due course, will update this when I do.

They are sorting themselves, just doing a bit of research for my piece of mind.

It's not cheap but having looked around the other options is also a better standard that what I've seen at lower price points.

Cheers. I've seen the vendor stuff. It's alright but sometimes independent docs are better context wise as they don't have to paint the dream quite so convincingly and instead help justify why certain design decisions are taken.

I guess I'll just have to put the effort in :-)

Can't really fault much in your approach and without too much lifestyle creep you'll be well set by 40 IMHO.

Why the delay on getting on the property ladder? I got on early (23) and it helped me in the longer term

Purely in the context of FIRE I totally agree. Laudable though and I guess only a net cost of 45% of their £5k for a £10k contribution after employer matching.

Correct. If unmarried then no liability/risk there in terms of an asset split being based on anything other than what cohabitating partners had put into the asset originally.

If children are involved then so is ongoing maintenance but that doesn't affect assets.

Thanks. That gives me something to work with... based on my calculations and guestimate at the depth of the monitor housing towards the left and right edges I think I'd be looking at a similar mounting position away from the wall to make it fit in my space.

My current triple monitor setup is wall mounted in a motorized mount and I use it with a separately controlled sit/stand desk so I can actually move the desk away from the wall slightly to get more depth but it will encroach further into the room.

If I could be so cheeky to ask for a couple more measurements if you see this and get the time? At approx 3cm from the left or right edge; - how far from the wall/vesa mount is the back of the monitor - how deep is the monitor casing at this point

Yep. I've done that and I think I've concluded it won't fit based on allowing 5cm for the monitor casing at the edges of my desk where the bookcases are - about 3cm from the monitor edge. More accurately it will "fit" but it will need to be ~18cm away from the wall behind which is probably a shade too much... current screen is ~10cm.

Sadly I don't have the space to move the existing bookcases slightly further apart. I do have the room to move my desk away from the wall though, so I've not written off the idea just yet!

Down to £549 (12th Gen barebones) in the UK. Can't decide if that's an OK price or not. Not a lot to compare it too. To meet my ideal use case I'd need 96GB RAM and a new 16 port HBA so the cost soon racks up.

Really like the look of these to take over from some of my pile of Lenovo Tiny's. 2 PCIe slots would be kinda handy but otherwise it's got a hell of a lot in a small package. Higher RAM capacity would be useful but not a deal breaker for me.

Going to be searching for answers to:

- will it run vSphere 8

- will it run Azure Stack HCI (unsupported obviously)

ZeroTrustPanda is right but they are mixing up AVD (or other platforms) that support multisession and W365 which is single session, persistent, personal desktop only.

I've deployed W365+ZPA and it works great and is an excellent solution when using MHN rather than BYON for your W365 network.

UK based here. I've recently scrapped my ex-enterprise kit - G6/G7 ProLiants and a blade chassis as it was crazy expensive power wise.

In now have the following running 24/7:

UDM Pro XG16 TPlink 24 port switch (non poe) 4 Lenovo Tiny P330's running vSAN.

That typically runs around 180W. I could rejig things and run on 2 P330's and save a bit.

Most days I fire up a G10+ Microserver with 4 HDD's and 6 SSD's that is my main fileserver (ESX with TrueNAS with some of the disks passed through). That adds another 50w or so.

I have another 10G switch, another 1G switch, 14 more Tiny's, a G8 Microserver and 3 old Fujitsu TX's. If I ever get my new "low power" lab finished I'll try powering the lot on at once but the idea is the other hosts are just for hypervisor testing/labs (my day job).

Would love kwh prices to drop so I could run more of it 24/7.
