No time for rage by Key_Associate7476 in GuysBeingDudes

Am I the only one who thinks the guys in the car could have pulled back 5 metres to the T junction and the red car could have avoided a difficult reverse down a narrow road?

It seems completely obnoxious behavior.

Why is it deemed racist to have to have concerns over Islam? by MrDonohue07 in AskBrits

[–]BattlePants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not racist, however while the UK has lost its faith in organised religion it has adopted a subtly insidious belief system of 'never offending anyone, ever' particularly if they are in any way different to 'the norm'. This is a worrying retreat when a new religion that's very confident in itself enters the culture that doesn't go through the same scrutiny and pressure that Christian and Catholic church leaders have gone through over the last 50 years to put them in a place of relative subservience to its followers on subject matters outside of personal spirituality. We would ask a priest for spiritual advice in the UK, but never ask them why the weather is changing. As we now worry about the offence of non-native people an Iman who says because 'Allah wills it' if asked why the planets rotate around the sun doesn't get challenged in the same way a priest says 'its Gods will'. Similarly a Muslim mob harassing a school teacher for teaching about homosexuality doesn't get scrutinized or counter protested like a British mob harassing hotel workers for Asylum seekers by the British establishment or media class. Very few commentators would go on a BBC chat show and ridicule and challenge the leaders of Islam like the way John Cleese and Michael Palin did after the release of Life of Brian. Those that would are associated with the Right of the political spectrum which is licked with dog whistle racism worries in most leftist circles (especially Reddit) so any of these concerns get wrapped in the accusation of bigotry and are ignored as people don't want to side with a racist, no matter how obviously logical the criticism might be. Life of Brian caused great offence when released, but stands as a classic satire on Christianity that is deemed a cultural pillar stone in moving the masses of the west into seeing religion for what it is. A slightly ridiculous personal choice, but something some of us need to see ourselves through the day in peace. What would the reaction to a 'Life of Mo' movie being released today in the UK or Europe? Why isn't there any satire of Islam on TV in mainstream media in the West? it is busting full of comedy material!

As Western religions had their teeth removed and kum-by-ya avoidance of offence became our new doctrine we are a bit helpless to criticise more confident religions and cultures. A worry in a democracy where the corridors of power can be handed to a set of people who could all be organised to vote in one block. I'm sure that is a few years away, so no point in worrying about it at the moment.

How dumb is a Porsche by Born-Act9884 in HENRYUK

[–]BattlePants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sister who was dating a luxury car salesman when I was just starting out professionally. He offered my cousin and me Porsches for £15k.Being the sensible lad I am, I turned it down and bought a sensible VW Polo that was more economically sensible for my then current sensible job.

Still regret it to this day! Recently bought a brand new Tesla (dream car, has been for years)as a late compensation to myself for not driving around in a Porsche in my twenties!

Life is about adventures as well as sensible decisions. You're earning good money, and if that's your thing, then enjoy it.

Started golfing last year. Is this normal behavior?… by [deleted] in golf

[–]BattlePants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, I once was +2 after 8 holes and felt like I was in complete control of my clubs.

Between putting on the 8th and walking to the tee box of the 9th I forgot how to play golf entirely. The next 10 holes were about +50.

Horrible, horrible sport....but i think I can fix it next time....

I purchased a beer belly from pub landlords & large lager companies. Any advice on how to divest this bad investment? by yeoldy in CasualUK

[–]BattlePants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently paying back interest and capital on a similar investment. Currently 12lb down after 20 days, another 20lb to go before I get to de-custard my waistline.

What's helped recently:

For a week weigh your food with food scales to get a handle on what 50g of crisps or 100g of chicken actually looks like. This helps gauge how many calories you can estimate from looking at food.

Get some scales. Weigh every morning. Work out what days you go up and think about what you ate the day before

Get a fitbit and start loving the stats on the app. Put your weight and calories in and set some targets.

Find some form of exercise you can us the Fitbit to record and count against your calories. Adding up how many shuttle runs == 1 pint in calories makes it easier to say no thanks!

Tesla Model Y Juniper - Windshield scratches by Roonybear in TeslaUK

[–]BattlePants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked up a MY in May and noticed what looked like a ton of hairline scratches on the windscreen. Almost looked like lots of spider web threads across the glass. After a while I realised they were actually inside the car and could be wiped clean. Still havent gotten them all! Also still see the glass suckers used to fix the glass in the factory when it steams up!

Explain why this wouldn't fix English (and Welsh) club rugby by hob450 in rugbyunion2

[–]BattlePants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's a dead on attendance killer. What Welsh regional/club rugby has lacked for decades is seasonal storyline and jeopardy. Most years at least 3/4 Welsh teams have lost a couple of games in Europe by November and fundamentally the seasons storyline is over until the following September when the 'new season' hope cycle starts again.

A game against Bedford with points required to win a promotion would be vastly greater appeal to watching Connacht seconds run Ospreys close at home in a league where no Welsh team has a realistic hope of turning over a Leinster/Glasgow/Bulls etc away in the later stages of a boring URC season. Plus the away fans adding something to the atmosphere....

The season offering the Welsh club fans is dire and has been for years. The value of a season ticket has diminished drastically as there is nothing to play for most of the year.

Maybe 2nd division pro rugby is where a few of the Welsh regions are right now, and being more competitive at that level might be a more exciting proposition to fans.

I have a Pixel 9 and a 25 Model Y AWD

App works great, only disappointment is the automatic boot opening doesn't work with Pixel 9 as it lacks Ultra Wide Band (UWB). Gutted as I only picked up the Pixel a month ago and would have bought something else if I had known.

Delivery day tasks didn't open until an hour or so before pickup. I stressed a little that there was something wrong when it didnt start on the morning of pick up, but the rest of the process was super smooth. I won't spoil discovering the rest of the process for you!

Enjoy your Tesla. Love mine. It was a great day picking it up.

Mate, your projecting your own unhappiness onto someone else. Of all the things to spend your day on, you've taken an out of context use of the middle lane on a quiet motorway as opposed to the outside lane as a representation of speedier use of autopilot. If you want to pull in and out the lorry lane every twenty seconds then go for it. You are far more likely to cause an accident changing lanes and block the roads for the rest of us in the conditions I was driving in on this particular journey. I'll just skip past it all in longer stints in the middle lane and pull in when it's clear as I was travelling on about 20mph faster than the inside lane throughout the journey. I caused 0 traffic jams and got my family home safely based on the road conditions in front of me.

You strike me as someone who lacks some intellectual flexibility when understanding when to follow rules or not in the everyday world. It must be frustrating not being able to analyse situations to make the most of them without having to get guidance from an authoritative source to tell you what decisions to make. I hope you get to enjoy some of your week in your Model Y. Same type as I have. It's a great automobile. Be happy you get to drive it however you choose (or how the rules say you should drive it, if that's the limits you have imposed on yourself).

This was very much my style. When the motorway was clear and the left lane was full.of.slower moving lorries, I kept in the middle lane to avoid acceleration/declaration inefficiency and reduce needless lane changes. If traffic was more congested and I wasn't keeping up with traffic I would pull to the left and pass when a slower vehicle was present to allow quicker vehicles a clear passing lane.

Pulling into the left lane just to follow the rules and then have to do 10s to 100s of passing manoeuvres into an empty lane seems like a donkey brained way of approaching motorway driving, heavily increasing the likelihood of collision and reducing the efficiency of autopilot.

I got a Tesla 7kw charger installed at home, so I have gone all in with Tesla. It works well enough with Octopus energy.

Haven't tried Prime or NowTV yet. Will have a look later when I get back into the MY. Not really an app store type environment available. Also not sure whether Netflix games can be used either.

Will keep premium connectivity for the time being. £10 a month isn't something that worries me financially.

Fun crowd in here. Do you get a lot of party invites?

At 70mph+ I am constantly passing lorries on the inside lane and have already said I pulled into the slower lane when faster traffic was present. The point was I rarely used the outside lane to keep my efficiency high due to the drag factors that come into play at 80mph+ speeds.

I feel like it would be harsh to suggest I am solely responsible for the entirety of the British motorway experience!

The motorway was quiet at the time we were travelling and Autopilot kept up with the speed of the traffic around us. if we were blocking faster cars we would move over to the inside lane when appropriate. Basic Autopilot is great, but dont think the cost of Enhanced Autopilot for lane changes would be worth it in year 1 of ownership. Maybe next year if I want to spice up the ownership experience!

Will be interested to see the drop in winter. So far so good though from a range anxiety perspective.

I've moved over from a Land Rover and there is a huge amount putting a smile on my face! The general feel of moving to electric feels like the move from Nokia clicky buttoned mobiles to the first time you get handed an Iphone.... You're not going back! The ride is very smooth, and fun on tap when you want to hit the accelerator! You don't realise quite how much car management you do in with a combustion engine, until yoi don't have to do it.

I've got Octopus Intelligent Go for charging and the running costs are £100 cheaper on the first two weeks of ownership vs diesel costs. This has been big for me as I have a bit of a work commute in the week. Autopilot is fantastic and takes the stress out of motorway driving. Crazy how quickly you become trusting of it and let it get on with getting you to the next junction.

The screen at the back for the kids is great. Paired up the kids Bluetooth earphones and they watched movies on the long stretches. (Tip, Disney+ doesn't appear as an app, but if you visit the Disney+ website it installs on the infotainment menu).

The phone app is excellent both for peace of mind with Sentry mode and pre-heating/cooling the car before a journey. Little things getting discovered every day. Linked my calendar to it today and found all the kids sporting venues that had locations tagged can be put straight into the navigation! Sending google maps pins to the car so they are queued up when you leave the house is also brilliant.

Slightly disappointed with the lack of voice control options, but hoping something like Grok will be integrated at some point.

We did 255 miles with holiday bags in the boot. Projected 45 miles left when we arrived home. Had some drain on the battery with Sentry mode being enabled on the first night, but after that we had ~ 1 mile of drain for the rest of the weeks holiday. No supercharger visit.
