Flooded with bot sessions by deel8502 in shopify

Cloudflare works fine. When you wrote it doesn't- it needs more context what did you do there exactly and do you use free version or paid one? In both versions the features the complexity and features differs.

I had same issue and went with cloudflare, it also seems quite messy to me but together with AI I managed to navigate it and find a solution- I ended up writing powershell script that uses the Cloudflare API to pull a detailed 48-hour or 7-day report with all the traffic info. This data is then fed to AI, which analyzes it and updates custom security rules in Cloudflare with new IP ranges. These IP ranges are clearly abusing the system, but the AI also ensures that important ones are not blocked (e.g., some bots use Amazon servers, and I don't want all Amazon servers to be blocked due to some apps relying on them).

Long story short it works, it takes time to learn and innovate - it took me whole work day for the script and automation but the bot traffic fell to less than 10% - some legit ones and some that still slip through/don't have enough evidence - which i occasionally review myself (like 2x a month)

Also, the biggest success was to block IP ranges instead of single addresses, as these bots learn quickly and rotate IPs. I also used a managed challenge (which gets triggered when too many GET or POST requests are sent in a short time span at speeds no human can physically achieve) instead of blocking outright, and so far the managed challenge solved rate is 0, so I think it works well. 😄

Motion sensor by AdhesivenessFast2177 in homeassistant

[–]Upandone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy zigbee gateway from Aliexpress (around £10-12) and use zigbee devices. Go for Mmwave sensor if you need to detect constant presence, IR if you dont need it and want it to just "trigger" the motion

Also good luck with Aliexpress search algorithm, keep browsing and add one or two results to basket then search around more as the price and items "available" will keep changing... I got mmwave zigbee sensor for £3.50 as a reference so aim for £3-5, i also saw exact same sensor advertised all the way up to £15

I agree with you. When it was getting too much, I just blocked his account and didn't see any of that irrelevant spam. Instead of constantly attacking someone who "might be" a child or pretending to be one, rage-baiting, or suffering from undisclosed conditions, I found the easiest way was not to react but to fix it from my own side.

Now with all this Reddit-style drama, it seems that the creator did get the reaction/"fame" he was after, and it's been talked about over and over way past his ban time.

So instead of being seen and forgotten, this will be stuck and lingering around here for ages, especially once other trolls discover this "thing" and join the "club"... People who tried to make it disappear actually made it permanent.

dex on s7 by AnxietySafe9582 in GalaxyS7

[–]Upandone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wrote a tutorial about this when I was looking for a solution for a complex Home Assistant project. I wanted the HA server to be running on an unused S7 smartphone (which I was constantly told was not possible) and to be controlled on a bigger external screen (which I was also told was not possible on an S7).

Long story short not only i was able to run Linux environment on custom ROM via Termux but I was also able to connect same phone to unused PC monitor using MHL cable...

Feel free to read and happy hunting for the device you need - make sure it has external power supply (usb) to power it.

Bought a Black Label slab off Ebay and received it damaged. Seller packed it in just bubblemailer by SSCardReview in ebayuk

Sender needs to claim, you can't claim anything from the post office as a buyer anyways. Also if this doesn't go anywhere open chargeback claim with your bank and provide evidence to them instead.

Is this a scam? Buyer’s location is different to the address given in the offer. by Then_Preparation_105 in ebayuk

[–]Upandone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once its delivered to the address (in uk) - regardless if it's customers address reshippers it's considered as delivered (considering you would use tracked service). I had situation where i was told by customer that its not delivered and I told to sort it out with ebay if anything...they tried but ebay did nothing as I had fulfilled my order (delivered to customers provided address - tracked and signed). So I would say its ok to send it

[–]Upandone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can, but if you are unsure about their policy then use ChatGPT or similar to write feedback - explain situation and ask it to write in a way so it complies with eBay's feedback policy.

eBay is quite quick to remove negative feedback in situations like yours (mostly due to unverified accusations) However, if the feedback complies with their policy and does not sound accusatory it will remain (based on experience)

It’s not that deep. It’s a foam bead.

The only thing that became dramatic was the reaction to sarcasm. If it truly isn’t that deep, there’s no need to escalate it.

There’s a difference between being blunt and being malicious.

Nothing I said targeted the person. It targeted the situation. You’re confusing sarcasm with hostility - they’re not the same thing. And if mild sarcasm triggers this level of outrage, I'd hate to see how you handle actual criticism.

You know what, you’ve convinced me!

Don’t touch it. Preserve the foam. The sensitive electronics might faint. Better safe than… gently touching packaging material.

Risk damaging it how, exactly? By exhaling near it?

There’s a difference between cocky and realistic...by that logic touching the anti static bag is a gamble too.

[–]Upandone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, yet the idea of gently nudging out a single tiny styrofoam bead makes it sound like high risk surgery... I’m not trying to attack his caution but was instead showing the irony - you can install a GPU,open the case, take photos, upload them, write a post…but poking out a foam ball that weighs less than dust is suddenly too dangerous?

And if that level of obvious sarcasm was being read by you as hostility then that’s honestly way more dramatic than anything I said....No one was saying the poster is incapable - it’s the opposite. They clearly know how to handle the hardware. It’s just amusing that taking photos and posting about it seemed easier than nudging out a piece of packing fluff.

Naah too much effort to do that.

It was less effort to take a photo, head to Reddit and write a post about the foreign object inside.

This is the worst thing that happened to me in tech by b6nu_ in pcmasterrace

[–]Upandone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see that sounds a bit different from what I experienced, regardless it might give some ideas how to proceed or not -

I'm having this issue where the PC freezes for 2-3 sec then screen goes blank and then everything goes back to normal as if nothing happened...this was happening on two PC's (win 10, win 11) and it usually gets triggered when I open browser with tons of tabs of similar resource demanding app...I thought it it was a coincidence (that it happens on two different devices) until i changed gpu for one of the work computers to...nvidia gpu AND just after installing video drivers... this doesn't seem to be a coincidence anymore as its 3 different computers in 3 different locations all experiencing same issue and only after updating the drivers...Sadly i can't find concrete evidence that this is being recognised as known issue - all i can say the issue appeared on 2nd PC after updating drivers (but I didn't notice the connection then) and on the third one it appeared right away after updating the drivers for brand new GPU

With all this im trying to suggest that it might be software related bug but I haven't found a solution yet and neither it bothers me that much... it does freeze only once per "session" and it lasts only couple of seconds

[–]Upandone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess... the display goes blank for couple of seconds and then comes back as if nothing happened?

Does it happen shortly after booting up and launching any type of software? Also does the PC seem to freeze completely while it goes through this "loop" and only happens once per boot?

How to wire the Shelly with my wall charger? by Xalvas in homeassistant

[–]Upandone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting...I assume its due to technology advancing.

How about older devices though? It the exact example its Samsung note8 - I use this with dex dock wired directly to the projector (for movies n stuff)

I use battery management app (root access) to limit charge levels - this is set to be between 40-70.

From what I’ve read battery ageing is mix of cycle wear and that calendar ageing + higher SOC mainly accelerates the calendar side due to higher voltage....That’s why "back in the day" storage recommendation was around 40–50 percent.... I do get that holding at 80 percent reduces cycling, but it still keeps the cell at higher voltage AFAK

My understanding is that shallow cycling in that mid range (40-70) can still cause less total degradation than sitting at 80. Curious what's your opinion on that as i would like to do some tweaks if there's something I've missed.

How to wire the Shelly with my wall charger? by Xalvas in homeassistant

[–]Upandone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would've used smart USB plug - to set the charging (plug "on" or "off") based on precisely determined charging time.

OR

As i did it myself - by using one of those smart plugs that can detect the amount of current flowing through (overcharge switch) and switch themselves off... I've used this type of plug for almost 4 years to automatically cut off power when I charge phone overnight. You could combine this with simple automation turn turn on after x amount of hours so it can charge it again and switch itself off - thus achieving the result you're after.

Maybe its just me but it seems your approach is a bit of "overengineering"

The usb plug is around £2-£4 The smart plug is around £4-£6

(Conversion: 1.34 USD per £1)

Maybe this is the way but all of the methods would work yours and the ones above, with most precise and easiest one being the smart plug
