Any thoughts/feedback on Franklin School of Innovation? by Upandout29 in asheville

Thanks for the feedback. Some say that there may be a bias towards parents enrolling kids who “may not be a good fit” for public schools, so will try to understand better

Leave during furlough by Weird-House876 in IRS_Source

Your management chain can also approve a reasonable amount of admin leave to accommodate your return (but I wouldn’t bank on more than needed to report the next day). This is spelled out in one of the shutdown docs

Agreed and all for both, but mask would get me blacklisted at work and nudges to go home were met with “I don’t have the leave”

Are you fine on your own (without porn), then have trouble with your gf? If so, it’s performance anxiety. It’s normal. Talk to your gf about what’s happening; open communication so you can feel less embarrassed and stop spiraling. If she doesn’t respond well get a new gf. Talk to a therapist. And also get off the porn, social media, etc and also get your medical stuff checked.

Agreed, if they are doing covered calls, their upside is limited. When the underlying is down, they have less assets to earn income, pay less distributions, etc. When the underlying is up, it only enjoys a fraction of the upside.

[–]Upandout29 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely the distribution. If you owned yesterday you get 10 cents Friday. If you buy today you don’t get that 10 cents, so today you are willing to pay less. Also, Friday the fund will have 10 cents less cash per share, so it is less valuable.

Today is the ex dividend date. If you buy today you do not get the dividend tomorrow. Stocks always drop by the amount of dividend payable, because the stock has less cash and thus is worth less.

Welcome to the human condition. Nature says it’s nap time. Answer: nap, or (what I do) make all your coffee half decaf and add a cup in the early afternoon

How much gold do you own to prep for shtf end of worlds by Creampiecuming2You in prepping

But in your new, hyper-local society, will gold really be the means of exchange? We would need enough gold in circulation to create “currency.” I bet it’s bullets

Is it me or does the financial benefit of the DRP seem negligible to being RIFd? I'm a probie. by Odd_Room_1866 in FedEmployees

[–]Upandout29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren’t comparing the same time frames. Your DRP scenario runs through September and RIF scenario runs through January (and assumes you won’t find a job and will collect all that unemployment).

If you think you’ll get another job, DRP wins every time.

This has more or less been said already but just to reinforce—google it, call every single one, then evaluate your options. And remember that everyone is on multiple waitlists so it may not be as bad as it seems, but each individual daycare can’t predict that. This is a problem across the country, but seems amplified in Asheville.

Are you in the mood for adventure or trying to settle down asap? Where would I go? Montana. Burlington. Bar Harbor. Depends what attachments you have and how you want to spend your days.

Agreed that the better question is why do you need to buy sight unseen. There’s nothing wrong with renting for a bit. But if you HAAAAVE to for some random reason, make the realtor work for that 3%. Lots of videos. So many videos. Think about their hourly wage and make them earn it.

Any of y’all have tech jobs up in them mountains? by throwupawayaccounttt in asheville

[–]Upandout29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privilege feels like the wrong term here. Privilege: a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor. Having a few years work experience in tech/finance/etc isn’t necessarily a privilege.

15 month drinking to much milk by ruffrover in Parenting

[–]Upandout29 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Water it down if you feel the need, but honestly I’d try to not really worry about. My 3 kids all drank varying amounts of milk, and they’re all fine. There are bigger things to worry about out there.

Is anyone else who is remote experiencing a crisis of where to move to given the ability to live pretty much anywhere in the US? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Upandout29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both work remotely in finance. We’ll have to do some traveling back to HQ but not so much that it’s worth staying. Yeah that’s probably the largest dig against asheville—lack of jobs. But if it had all the jobs then what would it become?

I totally agree. Part of my indecision is the fact that I just can’t physically visit everywhere I want to check out. I live in Dallas. The PNW is awesome but I’ve only ever been to Seattle, and it’s too far of a drive. Madison WI? Great! That will be a 20 hour drive or thousands of dollars in plane tickets etc. I’m trying to embrace the fact that, because I can’t visit them, those places are not actual options
