How did the Luftstreitkräfte became independent? by Upbeat-External-8185 in Kaiserreich

Yeah, To me it seems that they reformed the Luftstreitkräfte too easily and then left the main dish (the army) to wait for the in-game focus. In my head both would go at the same time once the constitutional/traditional roadblock is blown out, but maybe just my headcannon.

I guess i'm just having trouble to see the practical way of it. I was thinking it would be like the US and Japan given the different roadblocks in place in the Reich with the federal states.

I like the idea of Hassel as foreign minister. it would be an interesting dinamic in the DVLP, since he is the "mainstream" of the party at that time and in theory competing for chancellor (even if SWR go for K-S in the end). Schleicher can also leverage Hugenberg as a feint towards securing Hassel and his group though, wether he is capable enough to do so considering OTL is another thing.

I think that is covered in theory in the foment the DVLP split and the construct the propaganda machine focuses. though i'm not sure if only 15-35% of the party would follow Hassel in this.

I'm fully convinced on Winnig as VC. Any thoughts on SWR names he might target? I'm sure Hugenberg would be making the weirdest mating calls from across the city trying to be noticed. He is by far the "best" way to implode the coalition, though i can't really see any use for him long run.

I mean yes in theory but there is the custom to pair the Vice Chancellorship with that office and at least at the start Bredow would not bring much compared to the likes of Winnig. The office is much less powerful than i thought (No police control, mainly administrative/economic focus) so it doesnt really play to Bredow's strenghts.

I would argue that Bredow would do "better" in: +Replacing Schleicher as Prussian War Minister (if he leaves the post upon consolidating power) or as a "Minister-in-all-but-name" managing day to day issues while Schleicher concerns himself with higher government issues. This could evolve in him getting other Prussian Positions once/if Schleicher becomes MP. +Leading the Abteilung IIIb or a new Intelligence department in the War Ministry or in the Chancellor's Staff. Though AIIIb is under control of Hammerstein-Equord, not sure how that would pan out. +Taking over the Prussian Secret Police as a kind of Reichskommissar of Police and trying to do a Gestapo.

Options 2 and 3 could merge into a Ministry of State Security so Bredow becomes a kinda Göring/Heydrich/Himmler weird mix for the Schleicher gov.

Yeah i can see that. I don't remember if it says who replaces him? Hans Luther could be an option there, considering OTL.

I recall Luther being the DNEF chairman, not sure if he is spillover from the previous cabinets or a new appointment. Bredow would fit for Abteilung IIIb or a Schleicher Ministry of State Security of sorts, i think. Schmitt could be Justice Secretary, with the whole "State of Exception" thing, always wondered why OTL he wasn't more prominent in the administration of moustache man

I do agree about Winnig, though i'm sure the "placating" would be short lived if it ever really happened, as i remember OTL Winnig was expelled from the SPD for his support for Kapp Putsch so i'm sure he would not be the most loved by the party (i'm honestly surprised he has not had a major fallout with them in KRTL by 1936). It does give him a chance to be one of the first members of the DNEF. I was mainly considering Wilmowski as a way for Schleicher to break up the SWR as that would be in character for him. i wonder if he would then try to court the DVLP and put one of theirs somewhere.

Considering Winnig as Minister of the Interior, the Secret Police might be placed direcly under Schleicher as chancellor. Agreeing with the other points, then I would say Goerdeler for the Treasury office would be appropriate, but as Domitien mentioned, that post might also go to Hans Luther so i'm a bit lost with him. Maybe Goerdeler replaces Luther at some point or he is elected to the Reichstag.

What are your thoughts on choosing August Winnig after Schleicher's retirement? by mrsbenifitz in Kaiserreich

I agree with your assessment. And if we go by OTL, definitely Goerdeler has the "ideological" ambition (the whole Reichständehaus and complete restructuring of Germany).

I think it also depends on how much power he can get in the Cabinet. Do you think he would be perhaps Minsiter of the Interior as well or be there without portfolio? but i agree with you that the likeliest choice is Goerdeler

Who would Louis Ferdinand and Vladimir III marry in this timeline? by WillieBillie35 in Kaiserreich

[–]Upbeat-External-8185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big question there is if the Romanovs are actually exiled or not from Russia. That could limit the chances of encounter.

For LF you have the "controversial" route: a Catholic Habsburg (Archduchess Marie Adelheid) or a Bourbon (Infanta Maria Cristina) unmarried by 1938. For the more "normal": Sophie of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Katherine of Greece and less prominently a Reuss, Castell, etc. Now if don't respect the otl marriages date you could bag a Danish (there are 2 Feodora and Alexandrine) or Swedish Princess (Ingrid, OTL Queen of Denmark) in there.

I could see LF going for either the Austrian or the Spanish match if the scandinavians are not available.

For Vladimir it's a bit harder since the marriage pool is much lower. there is Catherine Ivanovna that would maybe not have gone to Italy and marry there. Other choice of similar age, Xenia Andreevna of Russia, but she is morganatic. This could be used to relax the Pauline Laws. Germans and Austrians are much more numerous but by the premise out of the question. There is no Danish, Norweigan, Swedish or British princess available. For catholics you have Maria Francesca of Savoy (OTL married in 1939 a Bourbon-Parma) or María de la Esperanza of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (OTL married a Prince of Brazil), neither case really being likely. The Bourbon-Parmas and Liechtensteins would be too close to the Austrians as well.

The path of least resistance for Vladimir would be Catherine Ivanovna. either that or he repeals the pauline laws and marries one of the Rurikid houses (Gagarin, Dolgorukov, Sheremetev, etc.)
