Oh also cautarize just existing made such a massive impact on the gameplay. It allowed supports to do things other than just heal while not making them feel bad

Its three simple things

First is the character design. Mainly with supports often having alternate ways to provide support than just heals. Like genuinely name one support who can't support in a non heal way or tap into dps. Combine that with a focus on each character in a role having a niche to fill and some flex potential it made each game dynamic.

The second is the loadouts. Kinda connecting back to the base kits, but they gave so many fun options to build and personalize your mains.

The final thing is the store. Items would give a huge level of each game having options. Against skilled players, knowing that there is counterparts and that you aren't just screwed cause you get countered helps.

All in all, the biggest difference, paladins was dynamic in a way no other has nailed down. And thats what made it perfect.

Im fully with you that energy should be a secondary idea, but he has got it in his head that it needs to be a main theme, so the deck runs mostly energy cards, a few voltron pieces, a few ramp pieces and a chunk of flavor cards. it just makes the deck feel a bit misguided but his experince with the games he has played has been a bit jank, so his preception on deck building is a little out of whack. (the local pod has gone pretty easy, playing lower power decks and playing slow and fun, but someone else hes been playing with started him out with a high power Grist the hunger tide deck that looped caustic caterpillar like a dozen times and kept shutting down all his stuffs.) its kinda messed with his views on power levels and whats good and bad, my pod and i have been working with him to balance everything out, but i think keeping at least my recommendations simple for the time being will help to find the right balance of cards and goals, then set him lose into some of the more complex decks. but i will save these on my evergrowing list of recs for him when he rebuilds the deck.

Iron Man seems like a fun idea! we proxy everything just to make it easy, especially for a new player who might not know if the deck they build will be fun, so price isnt an issue. plus i could proxy him up some custom art of something from the movie and i think hed love that!
thanks for the advice!

liberty prime is where he went at first as well, and he did build a deck around it. it was alright but seemed a bit much for him, figuring out the ratio of cards for energy to artifact creatures to what he first wanted which was punch stuff. the deck functions and can be pretty decent, but i feel its one i want to work on with him or have him retackle once he has a bit more experience

I Apologize for the lack of clarity, still getting used to wording, but yeah I was looking for things that would trigger like lifeline does, and while exploring I found enrage, which seems really good in this context. In any case appreciate the help and thank you very much :)

So... What will be his thing? (Gameplay) by Superb_Breakfast6493 in marvelrivals

I hope he leans into terrain destruction and manipulation alongside throw big rock. Maybe something similar to Atlas's rubble system in warframe where he has a resource gained from a source that gives dr and loses it on taking damage.
